Textures Films Video For "Awake"

Textures will be filming a video clip for their song "Awake" from the band's current album "Silhouettes." The video clip will be directed and filmed by Dutch Filmmaker Rob Hodselaar who has been responsible for numerous documentaries as well as videoclips of Dutch artists GEM and Room Eleven. The production will be handled by David Leite from Hazazah.

For the videoclip the band received a generous grant from the Dutch TAX Videoclip Fund, which will give the band the opportunity to film a videoclip exactly as they had in mind, with minimal budget restrictions.

The video will be shot beginning of October and it is expected to premiere at the end of October/early November.

“ As of today (2nd of October), we have once again entered the filthy and repulsive confinements of Off Beat Studio to record our 2nd still untitled full length album. 20 songs will be recorded, and we'll pick the best material to surface on the release. Some new titles to be included are Plexus Necrosis, Exotoxic Septicity, Necronomics and Ichor. Due to scheduling conflicts, the new effort will be self-produced and will not utilize the services of Fred Estby as previously reported.

Pelican Is Robbed In Rome

The band Pelican issued the following statement pertaining to a robbery that they were victims to two days ago:

"Our otherwise excellent tour of Europe hit a severe stroke of bad luck this week. Two days ago we had a spare half hour to spend in Rome before heading to the venue, so we decided to go see the Coliseum. We parked nearby and went to take a brief twenty minute walk around the area. When we returned to our van we found that it had been broken into, despite being parked on a major street in broad daylight. Four bags were stolen, the contents including computers, passports, wallets, ipods, our soundguy's microphone collection, and, most devastatingly, a number of personal journals and two portable recording devices containing hours of song ideas that are now lost forever.

"The calculated loss of this theft is several thousands of dollars. Unfortunately our band only earns us a very meager living and some of us are already in the hole from years of trying to make a living as musicians. This incident therefore poses a devastating loss and puts us in a very compromised financial position. Although we realize that there is a worldwide financial crisis going on, if there are those of you who have the means and desire to help out our gratitude would run deeper than words could express. We've set up a Paypal account at the address pelicanrobbed@gmail.com. Anything you can offer, even simple condolences, would go a long way. Thanks so much for reading."

There has been no indication that the band will halt their current European tour.

Dour Cursiva Calls It Quits, Members Form New Band

Rhode Island metal band Dour Cursiva is calling it quits and three of its members will be forming a new band. In the bands own words:

"Dour Cursiva is calling it quits. Due to recent member changes, which were left unannounced until now, along with a general refocus of musical direction, the rest of us remaining decided that it would be best to retire the Dour Cursiva name. We leave this project with no ill will toward anyone, and nothing but the best experiences behind. We have no plans of playing a final show as Dour Cursiva.

"Thank you to David Cavalieri, Kevin Pires, Joe Valerio, Eric Zabinski, and Josh Aguiar for their effort and involvement in Dour. Thank you to Ethan and Hold True Recordings for all of his hard work and dedication in supporting the release of "Voices Through Wires." We are very proud of that album and encourage you to pick it up through Ethan at http://www.holdtrue.com. Thanks to Ian van Opijnen for his help in making that album sound the way it does.

"We could thank a million and one people and bands for supporting us, encouraging us, hooking us up with shows, creating artwork or taking pictures for us, or just being solid friends throughout the whole deal. It would be long-winded and self-indulgent. So, thank you to everyone who supported us or shared in this experience with us.

"Expect a new website with a sort of retrospective of our various stages of a band to be posted when get down to that."

Dour Cursiva was:

Strike First Records Returns, Announces New Bands

Strike First Records has returned after a more than one year hiatus. Here's a message from the label:

"It is a pleasure to announce the newly re-formed Strike First Records. Although the look and roster is new, the goal is the same as it was before: to develop the next generation of heavy bands! In 2006, we decided to take a break on Strike First Records and re-focus our time and energy exclusively into the bands on Facedown Records roster. Well, after 2 years of down time, we've had plenty of time to think about re-launching Strike First and making it better than ever. That time is now and we are excited to announce the first 3 bands signed to the newly formed label.

"HOPE FOR THE DYING is as metal as it gets and hail from Jonesboro, IL. Their self-titled full length album will be the first album we are releasing and will be available on November 25. THE GREAT COMMISSION are turning Southern California upside down with their live show and in your face music and ministry. They will be recording their debut full length at the end of 2008 for an early 2009 release. THROUGH SOLACE are part of the Wales, UK hardcore scene and have released an EP on Holdfast Records. They will be releasing their debut full length with us in early 2009. They have some US dates planned in support of their EP, so make sure to check those out in our tours section. More info can be found on all of these artists by clicking on the Artists section so check that out.

"With a new and refined focus on developing artists in this day and age, this new wave of Strike First releases will be available worldwide through iTunes and other digital distributors like Amazon MP3, Shockhound and more. However, we are not simply focusing on being a "digital only" label as all releases will also be available as limited edition, environmentally friendly physical packaging that is free of plastic jewel cases. These physical copies of all the releases will be available online on the Facedown / Strike First store, as well as other select .com sites (interpunk, smartpunk, revhq.com, bestbuy.com, fye.com, etc…) and of course at all of the bands shows.

"Thank you to everyone that has made this possible and for your support over the years!"
