These guys couldn't have been older than 14 or 15, but they played with an air of professionalism that some of the more experienced bands this night should have taken note of. Their sound though was reminiscent of most of the young metal/emo type bands. More...

Study Links Metal Music To Suicide and More

The Sydney Morning Herald reports: A study, published in today's Australasian Psychiatry journal, found that teens who listen to pop music are more likely to be struggling with their sexuality, those tuning in to rap or heavy metal could be having unprotected sex and drink(sic)-driving, and those who favor jazz are usually misfits and loners, prompting a call for doctors to include musical tastes as a diagnostic indicator in mental health assessments.

"There is no evidence to suggest that the type of music you listen to will cause you to commit suicide, but those who are vulnerable and at risk of committing suicide may be listening to certain types of music," the author of the study, Felicity Baker, said yesterday.

She said an Australian study of year 10 students had shown significant associations between heavy metal music and suicide ideation, depression, delinquency and drug-taking, while an American study had also shown that young adults who regularly listened to heavy metal had a higher preoccupation with suicide and higher levels of depression than their peers.

Deliberate self-harm and attempted suicide was also associated with teenagers who listened to trance, techno, heavy metal and medieval music as part of the goth subculture, while those who attended dance parties were much more likely than their peers to be taking drugs.

Unearth Reveals More New Album Details, Tour Dates

Details surrounding Unearth's recently completed new album, "The March," have been revealed as well as dates on their fall headlining tour.

The band posted in their blog:
"Well, we've completed work on our new album entitled The March which is scheduled to drop on October 14 via Metal Blade Records. According to Trevor, 'The March' symbolizes both the evil and hopeful sides of humanity. The Evil: With the constant balancing act of power within government, religion and our financial institutions, there lies the chance of those most hungry for power to alter and restrict our freedoms for their gain. The Hopeful: This represents the faith in mankind as the most powerful force on the planet. If we come together and do not fight over religion, class and borders then we hold the key to a peaceful world. There are two possible futures in store; either a March of power and greed or a March of a unified human race."

The final track listing for "The March" is:

1. My Will Be Done
2. Hail the Shrine
3. Crow Killer
4. Grave of Opportunity
5. We Are Not Anonymous
6. The March
7. Cutman
8. The Chosen
9. Letting Go
10. Truth or Consequence

In advance of the release of "The March," Unearth will be heading out on a U.S. tour with Protest the Hero, The Acacia Strain, Whitechapel and Gwen Stacy. The band will be debuting a couple of new songs from "The March" while on tour as well

Ozzy Osbourne Working On New Album

In an interview with USA Today about his upcoming appearance in the new Guitar Hero game, Ozzy Osbourne has announced that he is working on at least one new album, stating that:

I am recording another album soon. I've got a Pro Tools machine downstairs in my house now, which I record from home now. I can't turn the fucking thing on. (Laughs). It's like the brain of the house. But when you have somebody who knows what they are doing, it's so easy to make records now, it's not even funny.

The art of making records is somewhat diminishing. It's taking the passion out of it. But I will try to give it as much real me as I can. There's so many tricks I can use.

I want to make two albums. Make one and go out on that one, and make another one and go out on that. Time is very valuable to me now. I'm 60 this December. It does not seem 10 years since I was 50. It really doesn't. My mission now is to do as much as I can.

Neurosis To Bring Beyond The Pale Fest To Roadburn

Neurosis has been invited to bring their Beyond The Pale" Festival experience to Roadburn in 2009, being given complete freedom to invite all of the bands they want and set the lineups for each of the stages.

Frontman Steve von Till comments:
"The mission of Beyond the Pale is for us to honor the spirit and power of sound with people that we feel are kindred spirits. We want to bring together a diverse group of people who push the envelope, are truly original, and have that unspeakable fire and inspiration flowing through their art."

Scott Kelly comments:
"In our 23 years of existence we have had very few experiences that felt as right as our initial performance at Roadburn in 2007. Roadburn is a unique experience in the often disappointing and disingenuous world of music, it is a festival organized and run by people with a true passion and dedication to sound. In the spirit of this commitment we are proud to announce that the day of April 25, 2009 at Roadburn will be a rekindling of Beyond The Pale. We will be performing as well as curating the entire days events."

The organizers of the festival say the following: "Roadburn is very pleased to invite our spiritual brethren from Neurosis to host a European version of their 'Beyond The Pale' festival. We couldn't imagine anyone being more attuned to the atmosphere and energy of Roadburn than Neurosis, and offering them the opportunity to stage the first ever 'Beyond The Pale' outside of the U.S. is our way of honoring their enormous contributions to underground music as well as their iconic style and sound."

"On Saturday, April 25, Neurosis will have complete freedom to invite all the bands and set the lineups for each of the stages. Over the years, Neurosis has exhibited an amazing commitment and dedication to the art of underground music, something that we at Roadburn understand and appreciate completely. We are looking forward to the new ideas that they will bring to the festival, as we feel they are truly kindred spirits. We look forward to uniting at Roadburn 2009."

Steve Von Till comments further: "It is a great honor and privilege to have asked to host our own Beyond the Pale event at Roadburn 2009. Since playing Roadburn 2007, we could think of no better people to work with on this event than the organizers and promoters of Roadburn and the wonderful staff at the 013. Roadburn is a completely different experience than the traditional music festival. It is a small, intimate, extremely well organized festival, put together by people who love the bands, and thrive on creating a unique social vibe where the lines between artist, audience, and staff are often completely blurred."

"2009 also marks the 10th anniversary of our own label, Neurot Recordings. What an amazing way to mark our first decade as a label. I believe that Roadburn and Neurosis share a clarity of vision that will result in an amazing experience for us all."

Roadburn 2009 will run for three days from Thursday, April 23 to Saturday, April 25 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. There will be an additional afterburner event on Sunday, April 26, 2009. More info will follow.

Neurosis' latest album, "Given to the Rising," is in stores now.

Gilby Clarke Talks Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp, GNR

Jason Price of Live-Metal.Net recently got a chance to sit down with Gilby Clarke to discuss musical roots, his upcoming musical endeavors, his new role as a "Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp Counselor" and even a little Chinese Democracy. Here are some excerpts:

On Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp:

Live-Metal.Net: Currently you are on tour as a counselor for the Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp, how did you become involved with the program?

Gilby Clarke: Actually a bunch of my friends have always been a part of it. Teddy Andreadis who used to play keyboards for Guns N' Roses, and Bruce Kulick have done it. Whenever they talk about it they always have great things to say about it and how it not only gives back to people who aren't professional musicians and the way it gives back to the musicians themselves. They get a sense of accomplishment working with people. I went down to Los Angeles to audition and I had a great time! I thought that the people were really fun and I just really enjoyed the whole process.

Live-Metal.Net: I would imagine that having experience on the production side of things probably lends itself pretty well to this project by putting all your expertise to work in a classroom setting.

Gilby Clarke: Yeah it definitely is a good experience for everyone involved.

Live-Metal.Net: What are you looking forward to the most about the Rock N' Roll Fantasy Camp tour?

Gilby Clarke: It is mostly about just talking to people. As a musician, you surround yourself with other musicians, so it is very easy to lose touch. What is really great about this is that you are one-on-one with people and get to hear what they are inspired by. I have never been one of those musicians that follows a trend. It always bothers me when I hear other artists saying "Do this for the fans. Give them what they want." I just don't think that is really an artist. Being an artist is creating something original and you get fans from that. So it is always nice to get a little feedback, some honest feedback. That is another thing that is really great about this.

On the Future of Supernova:

Live-Metal.Net: Rock Star Supernova reunited back in May of 2008 for a benefit. Is there any chance we might see you all back together again sometime soon?

Gilby Clarke: It is kind of funny because we never officially pulled the plug on it. It was a project and Tommy (Lee) and I will always be friends. I just don't think it is anyone's priority at this point. I think we gave it our best shot and there were some things that were successful about it and some things that weren't. I don't think it will ever really go away but over time we may forget about it. At this point, you never really know what will come up.

On Chinese Democracy:

Live-Metal.Net: I have a habit of throwing this one in here. When do you think that Chinese Democracy will be released?

Gilby Clarke: There was point there, I have to tell you, that I was absolutely sure it was coming out but at this point I have no idea. I am just like every other person and I am a fan of GNR's music but I have no idea. I have heard a couple songs just like everybody else and I am just as curious as everybody else. I am really curious to see what kind of music you break up a really good band for.

Live-Metal.Net: Is there anything else you want to add?

Gilby Clarke: I think that is about it. I think there is a really interesting vibe right now, we just have to be patient and hopefully we will get some good records out of it.
