Mastodon Complete Video For "Seabeast"

Mastodon have completed work on the third music video from their award-winning album, Leviathan. The video, for the song "Seabeast", was shot on location at the historic Madison Theater in the band's hometown of Atlanta, GA. "Seabeast" was produced and directed by Jonathan Rej (Man Or Astroman, Further Seems Forever, Stretch Armstrong) and Tom Bingham for Authority Films who also shot the band's video for "Blood and Thunder." The video for "Seabeast" dictates the great battle between Ahab, Mr. Queequeg, pride and creatures of the sea.

Mastodon's "Seabeast" video was shot with a hand cranked 35 mm camera employing many of the film making techniques of the 20's and 30's. Director Rej comments: "The Madison Theater was the perfect location to shoot such a video as it was open in 1927 as a silent movie theater and was the first theater in Atlanta to show "talkies." This is the first time the theater has been used in almost 30 years." Photos taken by Ryan Russell during the shoot are available at this location. "Seabeast" is expected to make its world network premiere(s) imminently, stayed tuned to your favorite music video provider.

Starkweather Sign To Candlelight Records

Candlelight Records have announced the worldwide signing of East Coast-based Starkweather. The band's new album, titled Croatoan, was produced by Pierre Remillard (Cryptopsy), Features artwork by renowned artist Paul Romano (Mastodon, Earth, Godflesh), and is scheduled for a May 2 American release date.

Long regarded as one of the first bands to blend metal and hardcore, Starkweather are still an untapped band for the masses. They have been cited as influence to many of today's top selling bands and remain one of the most passionate and intense bands on stage. Metal Maniacs says on an early listen to Croatoan, "rare is a band who personify, quite accurately, agony and despair through tranquil yet devouring movements. One of underground metal's soon-to-be classics, hail Starkweather!"

Formed in 1990, Starkweather have several out-of-print recordings to their credit including a limited self-titled seven-inch (Inner Rage Records, 1993), Crossbearer (Too Damn Hype, 1994), Into the Wire (Edison Recordings, 1995), the 1996 split seven-inch with Season to Risk (Supermodel Records), and participation on numerous compiliation albums. Croatoan, released in late 2005 on vinyl only (featuring exclusive artwork also from Paul Romano) via Hypertension Records, is the band's first new recording in over five years.

Starkweather toured Europe for the first time in mid-2005, visiting the Netherlands, Germany, England, France and other countries. The band plans to visit again during the year. American dates are expected; details to be announced separately.

Kerry King Talks About New Slayer Album

Slayer guitarist Kerry King has recently been talking about the follow-up to 2001's "God Hates Us All," due by the end of the year.

"[It doesn't have a name yet] because every time you give one of those out, it always changes anyway.

"I think the idea is to get eleven [songs] on there. We have the music for ten and I have lyrics for four of those, so we're in the home stretch.

The upcoming CD will be the group's first studio recording since drummer Dave Lombardo rejoined the band back in December 2001.

King has previously said he wants Dave Sardy to produce Slayer's next album, but now there is rumour that the band may collaborate with "Reign in Blood" producer Rick Rubin. "I don't know if he's heard what we've been doing lately, so we'll probably have to go do a demo in Dave's garage again, like the old days, get it to Rubin and see what he thinks."

Corey Taylor Gearing Up For Next Stone Sour Album

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor recently spoke to MTV.com about the second album from Stone Sour, his side project with Slipknot guitarist Jim Root. Here are several excerpts from the article:

"[Corey will] be flying out to Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl's Los Angeles studio on January 22 to begin recording the as-yet-untitled follow-up to the band's self-titled 2002 debut, which has sold more than 500,000 copies. (Slipknot's hanging up its vomit-coated masks for 2006, after two years of nonstop touring.)

"Taylor and his fellow Sours wrote more than 30 songs for the effort — some during the recording of Slipknot's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" — and they'll put 18 of those tracks (none of which have working titles) to tape with help from producer Nick Rasculinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver).

"'This is the first time that [guitarist] Josh [Rand] and [drummer] Joel [Ekman] and [bassist] Sean [Economaki] get to go through the whole experience,' Taylor said; Stone Sour's first album was Taylor and Root's handiwork and caused some contention in the band and among its fans. 'The first time around, there weren't any expectations. We were going to do our thing, put our art out there and just see what happened. And people really dug it, and there's a lot of anticipation for this, so we're stepping it up. We've got so many different styles going on right now that it's really cool. We were just like, "What can we do to top the first album? What can we do to take it to the next level?" And I think we have. The material on this [album] is so much stronger than the first album, it's almost a pity.'

"Taylor said Stone Sour's fans can expect some 'very atmospheric stuff,' along with the "the hard rock and the heavy stuff" that'll saturate the outing. 'It's a lot more melodic this time around, a lot more from the spirit of what the band started with in 1992,' he continued. 'It represents so much more of what we do. There's a really beautiful piano tune. There's a song that's borderline funk that's really cool — I'm really digging the hell out of it. It's like a cross between the theme song from 'Shaft' and I don't know what. It's melodic as f---.'

"Taylor promises a more "contemplative" album, and said he wrote one track for his wife. 'It's a real love song about how she helped me get through being an alcoholic for so long. She really saved my life.'

"The album, which the band hopes to have out sometime this summer, will be preceded by tons of touring and chased with a full U.S. trek. But before heading to the studio, Taylor will perform one more time: not with Slipknot, but former Slipknot member Josh Brainard. The duo is called Audacious P, and yes, they're a Tenacious D tribute band. They'll be performing covers — including an acoustic rendition of Iron Maiden's 'Wasted Years' — during a benefit for to aid victims of muscular dystrophy on January 21 at the House of Bricks in his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa."

Former NIN Drummer To Release Concept Album

JEROME DILLON, best known for his work over the past six years as drummer and occasional guitarist with Nine Inch Nails, will release "reminder," the first album from his band nearLY [sic] on April 11, 2006 (KUFALA Recordings/La Cosa Nostra). nearLY : reminder was recorded in Los Angeles and features Dillon as the primary writer, producer, performer and arranger, accompanied by former 12 Rounds vocalist Claudia Sarne, Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers' Greg Dulli, former NIN programmer Keith Hillebrandt, violinist Petra Haden, and engineer/co-producer Brett Pierce.

With one media outlet describing the album's sound as being "reminiscent of artists such as Pink Floyd, The Cure, and Dead Can Dance," nearLY: reminder is an intoxicating and hypnotic collection of 12 songs that merge baroque strings and acoustic instrumentation with aggressive, bombastic drums and bass. nearLY : reminder is also a concept album that attempts to musically document a recurring dream Dillon had over a six-year period. "I kept getting a bit further along the path every time I had the dream, so I thought that it must be trying to tell me something," he explains. "And for about the last year of it, the dream ended with me accepting an invitation to drown myself in a very serene and calm body of water. Without sounding too bleak or depressing, the name 'nearLY' just seemed to represent where we're ALL heading: to the end of our time here."

nearLY: reminder began in 1999 while Dillon was on a break from NIN's "Fragility" tour. He had cut demos on a digital four-track in various hotel rooms throughout Europe on that tour, and the project then evolved over the next two years as Dillon and Pierce experimented in the studio with different musical textures and tones. Falconer Begin Work On New Record

Falconer have issued the following update:

"The first rehearsal with the complete line up took place some weeks ago, and I can tell you that it sounded awesome to finally hear the result. Mathias brought that extra spice to the songs as usual."

"All songs for the upcoming album is written into every detail, it feels quite good to for once be this well-prepared and hopefully that can result in some spare time in the end instead of cutting out ideas."

"The new material is more folkish but still feels fresh, like a natural progression from the 2 first albums."

"We will enter the studio in February to record all instruments, then carry on with the vocals and mix in the summer. On one hand it feels hard to wait that long to finalize it, on the other hand it might be good to sit back and clear your head and then return with charged batteries again."

"The first edition of the album will contain about 4 bonus tracks, traditional Folk songs!! I would estimate the release date to be in Sep/Oct ‘06."
