Bloodthorn Prepare To Release 'Genocide'
Norwegian death metallers BLOODTHORN will release their fourth studio album, "Genocide", in January/February via Red Stream Inc. (Morningstar Records in Europe). The long-awaited follow-up to 2001's "Under the Reign of Terror" was recorded at Godt Selskap Studio (CHTON, GRIFFIN, KEEP OF KALESSIN) in Trondheim, Norway with producer Knut Fug Prytz (NECROPHAGIA). The CD, which has a running time of nearly 50 minutes, will mark the group's first release with guitarist Ihizahg (ex-PERISHED, WURDULAK, live guitarist for MAYHEM). "He's been working with us for several years now and wrote a good deal of the material on the new album, which will be the heaviest and most extreme BLOODTHORN album to this day," the band write in a statement. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Nightmare of Violence", "Sacrificial Slaughter", "Monolith of the Dead", "Hell on the Eastern Front", "Blood and Iron" and "They Will Arise".
BLOODTHORN have been confirmed for the 2006 edition of the Inferno Festival, set to take place April 13-15 at the Rockefeller Music Hall and John Dee venues in Oslo, Norway. Also scheduled to appear at the festival are the reunited black metal legends EMPEROR, MARDUK, BOLT THROWER, BORKNAGAR, WITCHCRAFT, ENDSTILLE and 23 other bands that have yet to be announced.

Gorgoroth Guitarist Denies Raping Woman
GORGOROTH guitarist Infernus (real name: Roger Tiegs) went before a Norwegian court earlier today (Jan. 3) to appeal the three-year prison sentence he received last year for rape. The incident happened April 27, 2004 when Tiegs and a friend brought a 29-year-old woman they met at a nightclub called Garage in Bergen back to Tiegs' apartment after closing hours. The two men allegedly punched the woman in the face and forced her to have sex with them. Tiegs, 33, and his 32-year-old friend (who received the same sentence) admitted that they had sex with the woman, but claimed it was consensual. The defendants both appealed the verdict.
"She's lying," stated Tiegs as he took the stand today in the Gulating court of appeals.
According to Bergens Tidende, Tiegs' friend (whose identity has not been disclosed) claimed in court that the woman invited them to have sex with her after Tiegs undressed at the steamy afterparty.
"All of a sudden he stood there, completely naked," the co-defendant said. "Not that that in itself was particularly sensational. He has a tendency of getting naked at afterparties. It has happened before."
Tiegs admits to having had sex with the woman, but says he can't remember having intercourse with her. He claims he had a blackout after consuming large amounts of beer, wine and liquor.
"Things gradually become more blurry," Tiegs told the court. "I remember the police sirens and waking up in a cell."
However, he does recall taking off all his clothes to create a "funny and exciting situation."
"I'm an exhibitionist," stated the guitarist.
Prosecutor Gert Kjelby immediately linked Tiegs' unusual behavior to his music career. He asked Tiegs if he can't live out all his exhibitions in black metal.
"Not enough, it would seem," responded the guitarist.
When Tiegs claimed the woman was lying about the events at his apartment, the prosecutor asked: "How would you know since you say that you blacked out?"
"I've seen her have sex with [my friend] and me," responded Tiegs. "So at least she's partially lying."
However, Tiegs couldn't explain why the woman fled from the apartment wearing only a towel. His friend says the reason is that Tiegs had screamed at her and called her a "stupid whore."
"I can come across as emotionally cold," admitted Tiegs. "It's quite possible that I yelled at her, but I can't remember. I can't rule it out."
The GORGOROTH guitarist also admitted that he can appear as aggressive and threatening, but claims that he's never used violence.
"I may very well have scared her verbally. I remember that I in the past have thrown people out after having had sex with them."
Tomorrow, January 4, the woman takes the stand.
On May 5, 2005, Tiegs and his friend were each ordered to pay 100,000 NOK (approximately $15,000) in court costs and an additional 55,000 NOK (approximately $8,300) in punitive damages.

The Red Death Replaces Bassist
Metal Blade Records’ The Red Death has recently had a change in their roll call. Long time bassist, and actively touring comrade, Dominic Mastronunzio has left in a completely amicable fashion and leaves with the best wishes of the band. His plans are unannounced at this time. In order to fill this absence, Jack Portwood, bassist/singer of upstate NY's Highland Drive, is being brought up to speed and broken in, and is excited about the band and his future in it.
The Red Death is currently practicing/writing/planning in preparation for studio time in late March or early April, and slowly trying to become accustomed to quieter life not in a stink-filled van. We plan to play as many shows as possible during this "downtime", so look for us in the grimmest of venues near you. The Red Death is also in the market for some new management and booking; all interested parties should contact the band at thereddeathbooking@gmail.com.

Neurosis Celebrate 20th Anniversary
Commemorating their 20th anniversary as a band, Neurosis has posted the following message to their Neurot Recordings site:
"20 years ago the month of December, 1985 we sat in a room and began a conversation. After talking for a couple of weeks we had constructed a vision of where we wanted to go with our music and how far we were willing to go to achieve our goal. We wanted to create a sound that would be shot into space and eventually come down in a million pieces to be found later by others who would understand as we did. We always knew that there was something else at work when we played music together. At times even our friends could hear it. It was something unknown and beyond our comprehension, but we knew its presence. Soon it began to drive us toward our first thought, our commitment, our sacrifice. The trials that we have been through in this time are untold, and they will continue as we are a driven force that will never stop moving in all ways. We have had the absolute pleasure of experiencing life and death in the purest forms. It is that experience that continues our evolution as a family and it is that experience which will bring us closer everyday to our truth. The path that was seen 20 years ago, the vision that we share, our children, our families, our friends, is all that will ever be to us. Our commitment has never wavered, our conversation will continue, and the music is still to be written.
In the spirit of sound,

Entombed Guitarist Issues Studio Update
ENTOMBED are currently at Soundland Studio in Upplands Väsby, Sweden (just north of central Stockholm) working on their new album, Serpent Saints, due on June 6, 2006 (06.06.06!) via Threeman Recordings. Guitarist Alex Hellid has issued the following Journal update:
"12.14.05 - Wednesday
I get to the studio at three. Nico (Elgstrand - bass) and Pete (Stjärnvind) have been working on some drums tracks for a while and seem ready to hit the next song. We pick one with the working title Ministry. It’s not really industrial sounding but there something there that reminded me of MINISTRY. Awesome band!
Though it’s the riffs are pretty simple the drums prove to be more complicated to get right. We end up doing a bunch of takes but I think we’ll need to have another go at this one in a few days.
12.15.05 - Thursday
I pick LG (Petrov - vocals) up at his house at 10 am and we head out to the studio. We got SVT (Swedish national TV) coming out to do a studio report at 10.30 am. A crew of five shows up and we don’t really know what to expect, it’s a new music show – Rundgång (Feedback) - that will start airing next year The two guys hosting are big fans and do a good job. We even end up doing a song with the on camera as they really wanna jam with us. 'Night Of The Vampire' (originally by ROKY ERIKSON) seem like a good choice and the guys are great, TV history is made! At one they have what they need and seem really happy. Johnny the studio owner give us a smashed up guitar and one of his t-shirts to sign and give away to some lucky winner on the show. I get a call from home. The dog, which we took to the vet this morning, is
really sick and needs to be taken to a hospital an hour and a half away right now. I have to leave even before Pete gets there. Nico waits for him and they redo some stuff from yesterday." More...
