Surviving Members Of Pantera To Reunite For Tour

According to Billboard, surviving members of Pantera Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown are to reunite for a tour next year to celebrate the band's music.

"We are thrilled to be working with such an iconic band and bringing their music back to the fans," said agent Peter Pappalardo.

There has been no official announcement on the band's social media as of writing, nor has there been any official word on who could be replacing the deceased Abbott Brothers, Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell, though there has been much speculation that Charlie Benante of Anthrax will be behind the drum kit, while longtime choice Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne) will take the place of his noted friend Darrell Abbott.

Unearthing the Metal Underground: Kryptamok

Finland is home to seemingly countless metal bands, so much so that you may have encountered a regularly recycled meme depicting a promo pic of a band in the forest that includes the caption: “75% of a Finnish park ranger’s job is rescuing metal bands that get lost shooting album covers”. Levity aside, Finland boasts a rich history of black metal, from Beherit and Impaled Nazarene to Sargeist and Horna. There’s a newer kid on the block who isn’t exactly paving new ground, but the passion and drive behind their timeless black metal makes them worthy of attention. While Kryptamok only has a demo and a full-length under its collective bullet belt, they’re poised to raise hell once again. More...

BlackLab To Release New Album In August

Blacklab are back. The self-proclaimed ‘Doom witch, duo from Osaka’ are set to drop their third album "In A Bizarre Dream" this summer. Their debut "Under the Strawberry Moon 2.0" saw them taking Sabbath inspired doom, mashing it with a Japanese sensibility and a fuzzed-up groove. It certainly caused a stir, but only hinted at their potential.

Album two "Abyss" added to the mix. A Stooges like squalor to the riffs, dollops of lo-fi hardcore punk and loose riffing, pointing the way towards a signature sound.

So what of the ‘difficult’ third album? Not so difficult at all it seems. ‘In A Bizarre Dream’ ups the ante considerably, to let rip and define what Blacklab are about. The combined talents of Jun Morino on production and Wayne Adams (Big Lad, Green Lung, Pet Brick, John, Cold In Berlin) on the mix have conspired to produce a towering beast of a record. A real step forward for the ‘Doom Witch Duo'.

The drums have a humungous Fugazi like welly, and the guitars are a boiling maelstrom of fuzz dense riffola and warped psychedelics, with added synth. Yuko’s throat shredding snarls are as mean as a pissed off Satan, and melodious, often within the same song.

This is doom meets hardcore punk, hooky melodies, and killer riffs, all cranked up to the max. Japan has always had a special take on ‘noise’ and ‘heavy’ and with "In A Bizarre Dream" Blacklab add their own spin to that tradition.

Gone is the lo-fi approach, here is Blacklab in full effect. More...

Conan Shares "Righteous Alliance" Video

Following their much acclaimed 2018 full-length, "Existential Void Guardian," and their Live at Freak Valley record released just last year, England‘s doom metal masters Conan strike back again! The trio‘s fifth studio album, entitled "Evidence Of Immortality", drops August 19, 2022 via Napalm Records.

As first album singles showcase, Conan's upcoming magnum opus will overrun you like a steamroller. The British kings of brutally heavy slowness push their down-tuned axes and cranked pedals to the limit, crushing ears and minds when huge, rumbling chords and malevolent riffs muscle their way in over lances of infinite distortion and drums that pummel and thunder like the hands of a god against the gates of hell.

Following their previously released first album single "Levitation Hoax," today the band has unleashed a brand new, colossal track and music video! “Righteous Alliance” emphasizes that Conan are the masters of their craft, while Jon Davis spits his lyrics over the uber-synchronized power chord changes and tempo shifts of the unholy trio of bass, drums and guitar.

"’Righteous Alliance’ is another track that we have been playing live," guitarist and singer Jon Davis comments. "It is all about war, and the hopelessness of it. However, a hero is coming and just as death is imminent, an unflinching saviour enters the fray and the day is saved, for now.

"We were keen to include some fan footage from over the years, thankfully they came through so thanks to everyone for being a part of it." More...
