"Stand My Ground" is the first single off Within Temptation's upcoming album, "The Silent Force", due later in the year. The "Stand My Ground" clip was shot on the roof of an old brewery in Berlin, Germany last month. "The band performed their song for a whole (very cold) night," reads a posting on the group's web site. "By the sunrise of the next morning everybody went tired but happy back to the hotel in order to catch some sleep."

Guitar World's 'Worst Riffs, Solos of All Time'

The Associated Press is reporting that Guitar World magazine has selected the "100 Worst Riffs, Licks & Solos of All Time," identifying ones that are "lazy," "boring," "just plain stoopid," or "involve C.C. DeVille."

The list includes songs by David Bowie, Def Leppard, Metallica, Green Day, B.B. King, The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith and The Strokes, among others. Many are guitar legends who simply had a bad night or bum note.

Guitar World describes the No. 1 selection, Poison guitarist C.C. DeVille's nine-minute solo — entitled, appropriately enough, "Guitar Solo" (off Poison's "Swallow This Live") — "completely devoid of taste, structure or steady tempo" and recommends every budding guitarist listen to it because "surely, they can't do any worse."

DeVille was also cited for his "Cherry Pie" solo when he made a guest appearance with Warrant and Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn".

The magazine recommends DeVille "take solace in the fact that he's in some rather good company."

Top 10 "Worst Riffs, Licks & Solos of All Time" as selected by Guitar World magazine:

01. POISON – "Guitar Solo"
02. BLUE CHEER - "Summertime Blues"
03. CARLOS SANTANA - "The Game of Love"
04. CREAM - Falstaff beer 1967 radio spot
05. THE BEATLES - "All You Need is Love"
06. BLACK FLAG – "Thirsty and Miserable"
07. TED NUGENT - "Wango Tango"
08. ROLLING STONES - "Ain't Too Proud to Beg"
09. MANOWAR - "Sting of the Bumblebee"
10. LENNY KRAVITZ - "American Woman"

Cold Announce New Album Title

Cold have set "And a Sad Song Lives On" as the title of their new album, tentatively due early next year via the group's new label, Atlantic. The band will commence pre-production on the CD on October 14 with producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette (Chevelle, Iggy Pop).

Back in April, Cold parted ways with guitarist Kelly Hayes and replaced him with Matt Laughran, formerly of the pre-Cold outfit Grundig. Hayes, who has since joined the Jacksonville, Florida-based "modern rock" band Allele, was the second guitarist to leave Cold in less than six months. Late last year, Terry Balsamo exited the group to hook up with Evanescence. He has since been replaced by former Darwin's Waiting Room axeman Eddie Rendini.

Commented Cold frontman Scooter Ward: "A lot of people wondering what the new record will be like with the addition of two new guitar players. Sam [McCandless, drums] and I were very concerned when we started writing the new record. We wanted to make sure this is more Cold than it's ever been. It is important to us to keep that integrity. So Sam and I locked ourselves up in a room for two months and created.

"I'm shaking a little as I'm writing this because the chills and emotion behind this is insane.

"Matt and Eddie will play on the record and continue to tour with us.

"Sam and I are very proud about this record not only because we did it ourselves its also because Atlantic is being very supportive and excited and letting us be artist again. This record will dominate everything weve ever done. I have never felt like this before about our music. It's a new world for Cold. Me beeing sober now might have something to do with that also. But it's exciting for us."

Released in 2003, Cold' last album, "Year of the Spider", debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 500,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Shadows Fall To Perform Special Private Show

Shadows Fall will be performing on the special Halloween edition of MTV2's Headbangers Ball to be taped at the BloodRayne 2 Launch Party on October 21st at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. This party will be hosted by Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta and also feature lots of surprises including some very secret guests that we can't announce!

There are a limited number of tickets available for free with the purchase of a ticket to the November 10th Devastation Across the Nation date with Shadows Fall, Damageplan and The Haunted that is also at House of Blues in LA. As this is a private event there will only be a select number of tickets open to the public. Expect these to disappear very quickly.

We have an incredibly limited number of tickets available through Shadows Fall Online Ticketing at a cheaper service fee than other options. You can also get tickets through Ticketmaster.com or the House of Blues box office while supplies last. You MUST bring either the physical ticket itself or a printout of the confirmation email to the House of Blues box office before Oct. 21st to get your pass for the BloodRayne 2 Launch Party. This applies to fans who have already purchased tickets as well. If you buy your ticket through the Shadows Fall online ticketing store, your name will be at the door and you will not have to redeem your ticket at House of Blues.

The ONLY way to get tickets to this event is by purchasing a ticket to the Devastation Across the Nation show (with Shadows Fall, Damageplan and The Haunted) on November 10th at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. This is your chance to be on MTV with Shadows Fall. The actual program will air on Halloween night. Tickets are still available for this but they will not last much longer.

In other news, Shadows Fall drummer, Jason, just tied the knot this weekend.

Katatonia Denounce December Souls Re-Release

It has been known to us, that Black Lodge records are going to reissue the old classic Dance Of December Souls album.

Pulled from the official Katatonia website:

Although the CD could just as well have been repressed with the original cover and old logo, it now ridicules both the past and present by showing up with a new pathetic cover trying to depict elements from our last album and the abuse of the "new era" logo on something that was released more than 10 year ago.

Don't be fooled into confusing this is for a new Katatonia release. Consequently, we do not support this reissue and take complete distance from its existence.
