Owners and Tour Manager Indicted In Deadly Fire
After a nine-month investigation, a Rhode Island grand jury Tuesday indicted the two owners of the Station nightclub and the manager of the band whose pyrotechnic display during a Feb. 20 performance here started a devastating fire that killed 100 people and injured hundreds more.
Jeffrey and Michael Derderian, brothers who had operated the club since 2000, and Dan Biechele, the tour manager for the band Great White, were each charged with 200 counts of involuntary manslaughter -- two counts for each person killed.
The indictments represent the first criminal charges stemming from one of the nation's worst nightclub fires. The Derderians' charges were in connection with their alleged installation of flammable material on the walls for use as sound insulation. Fire investigators have said the material allowed the blaze to spread quickly, engulfing the club in minutes. Biechele's charges resulted from his use of pyrotechnics without a license.
Rhode Island law allows defendants to be charged with two separate types of involuntary manslaughter, each of which is a felony and carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.
The band manager has said he set off the pyrotechnics with the club owners' permission, but the Derderians have said they never knew Great White planned the display as part of its concert.

Faust Leaves Dissection
Former Emperor drumemr Bård "Faust" Eithun has officially parted ways with Dissection. According to an official press release, Eithun made the decision after a meeting with Dissection guitarist/vocalist Jon Nödtvedt in Stockholm, Sweden. Bård "explained that he has been tense about what impression the whole deal with Dissection would do to him in practice and that he has come to the conclusion that he can't stand behind and live up to the demands of Dissection's Satanic concept, with the inevitable result that he has to leave the band. A decision Faust and Jon made in mutual agreement after discussing the problem."
"There are only two alternatives for us: doing Dissection wholeheartedly and with complete devotion, or not at all," explained Jon.
Faust explained: "There came to a point where I felt I had to compromise my own philosophy of life and maybe even go against some of my personal views and ideas. Evidently, the concept and the ideology was more emphasized and underlined in the band than I was originally aware of. In my eyes, the Satanic concept got totalitarian and it shaped the rest of band. Eventually, it all reminds me more of a cult than a band with individual musicians. My intention with Dissection was primarily musical; I viewed it as an honor to perform the old classic tracks as well as the new ones Jon has made during the last years. For me, anything else comes secondly, and it would be wrong to put a lot of my time and energy into something I couldn`t fully represent. Not to mention, it would be a waste of the rest of the band`s time and energy as well.
It`s very unfortunate that it came to this ending and I wish Jon the best of luck finding musicians that can stand behind the band 100%.”. More...

Rob Zombie, Niles Team For Creep Entertainment
Rocker Rob Zombie and author-cartoonist Steve Niles have created Creep Entertainment International, a horror-themed production company, Variety reported. The company will begin with three comic-book projects that, down the road, are expected to be adapted for films: The Nail, with Dark Horse Comics; Bigfoot, with IDW Comics; and Lords of Salem, a combination music-comics project, the trade paper reported.
All tales were co-written by Zombie and Niles. The books will be illustrated by some established comic talents, the trade paper reported.
Zombie made his film debut writing and directing House of 1000 Corpses for New Line, and he is in preproduction on the sequel, which he will again write and direct, the trade paper reported. Zombie's first comic venture, Spookshow International, quickly sold out after its release in October.
Niles has already started to write Nail, which is peopled with 1970s-style satanic bikers and wrestlers. Lords of Salem is based on a satanic band.
