Xasthur and Leviathan have collaborated on a Split LP that Profound Lore will release. This limited edition vinyl, which will include a collectable postcard, a special designed inner sleeve, and will be presented on clear transparent vinyl, will consist of completely new songs written by both artists as this release will portray some of the most twisted, hypnotic, and depressing hymns that each artist have ever committed to unleashing. To be released Nov 16th, 2004.
Here's the tracklisting: More...
Shenoah Recording New Album
Cleveland's Shenoah, featuring former members of Chimaira, Erase The Grey, and Ringworm, are currently at Conquistador Studios with producer Cole Martinez recording their debut album for Corporate Punishment Records. The effort should be available on January 10, 2005, followed by a U.S. tour.

Burst Prepare To Record New Album
Relapse Records artists Burst are currently finishing up new material, which they intend to record in February at Studio Music-a-Matic in Gothenburg, Sweden. The group will once again be working with producer Fredrik Reinedahl (Crowpath) and the album should hit stores in summer 2005. In the meantime, the band will be putting out a vinyl 10" release (featuring new artwork) of their "In Coveting Ways" CD through Throne Records.
Turmoil Reform, Plan European Festival Dates
Philadelphia's hardcore legends Turmoil have announced their decision to reform after nearly five years apart. The following is an official statement on the reunion, as posted at Turmoil.com:
"As you may have already heard, Abacus/Century Media Records will be releasing a two-CD, complete discography in early 2005. The discography will also include a couple new songs that we are currently working on. We are planning on going into the studio in November/December to record these new tracks and are currently looking for the right producer and studio to harness the new Turmoil sound.
"Some of you may be wondering why this is happening now, after almost 5 years. There are a few reasons. Ray Harkins from Abacus/Century Media Records contacted us a few months ago with the initial idea to release a complete discography due to the fact that Century Media wasn't planning on repressing any of the old Turmoil catalog. Ray being the Turmoil super fan that he is, did not want to see that happen and neither did we. The four of us (Jon Gula, Jon Hodges, Jeff Hydro, & Jon Pushnik) all agreed that this was a good idea. Plus, over the past few years, we have all remained friends and shared some stages together with our new bands, THE KISS OF DEATH and THE DEADLY. We all agreed that this would be the perfect opportunity for us to get together again and maybe work on some new Turmoil songs. There are also some questions about the 'Turmoil is dead' comments that were written on the website in 2000, shortly after the Hellfest fiasco. We had gone through many problems in a short amount of time (members leaving the band, tour cancellations, label issues, etc.) and everyone was pretty much fed up with everything, including each other. Not to mention only getting to play 3 songs at 1 a.m. at our 'final show', you get the picture? Those words were written out of frustration. So you can take it or leave it, but this is going to happen.
"For those of you who are awaiting this release, believe us, you will not be disappointed.
"We would like to thank everyone that has supported us throughout the years and continues to support us. As we get more info we will post it right here at Turmoil.com, so check back frequently for updates. We have already been contacted by Avocado Booking in Europe about doing a few festivals at the end of December 2004. These dates are tentative, but if everything goes according to plan, the shows will be: December 29 - Belgium (Good Life Festival), December 30 - Holland (Arnhem Goudvishal), & December 31 - Munich, Germany (Backstage Festival). We're also hoping to add a few dates on to these, so if anyone is interested, please contact Avocado Booking. Stay tuned for more."
Satyricon U.S. Tour in December
Satyricon, one of the most revered and legendary bands on the European Black Metal scene, has announced that it will bring its #The Return of the Antichrist" tour to the U.S. beginning Thursday, December 2 in San Francisco, CA ending on December 22. Canadian-based bands Infernal Majesty and 3 Inches of Blood will provide support for these dates.
Satyricon frontman Satyr explains the tour¹s title: "I recently read a survey that said that Americans between the ages of 18 and 30 are the least rebellious and most god-fearing in the world. How disappointing. It¹s time that Satyricon came to the U.S."
As previously announced, Satyricon will be joined on this tour by Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison. Jordison, a huge Satyricon fan who offered his services to the band, will sit it for drummer Frost who has been denied entry to the United States due to ongoing visa problems. For "The Return of the Antichrist" tour, the Satyricon line up includes Satyr/vocals; Steinar Gundersen/lead guitar; Lars Norberg/bass; A.O. Gronbech/ rhythm guitar; Jonna Nikula/electronics, and Jordison on drums.
System of a Down guitarist/producer Daron Malakian who owns eatURmusic said, "Anyone who knows Black Metal knows that Satyricon is that genre¹s premiere band. I have been a huge fan of the Black Metal scene for years, and I am so honored that Satyricon is on my label. Their new album "Volcano¹ is exceptional, in my opinion, the best they¹ve recorded; it¹s honest, it has integrity, and I feel it and these upcoming tour dates will help spread the word to a new audience."
"The Return of the Antichrist" will be Satyricon¹s second U.S. tour in support of their most recent album, "Volcano", released April 13, 2004 on the eatURmusic/Red Ink/Columbia label. While the band has achieved massive cult status in Europe, they are making headway breaking through in America Metallica¹s Lars Ulrich recently singled Satyricon out as one of the more exciting new bands on the scene today. For the December tour dates, Satyricon is readying a new promotional video for the track "Repined Bastard Nation", which was shot in front of some 40,000 fans at the Wacken Festival in Germany earlier this year.
"As we are from Norway", said Satyr, "we have a Viking heritage, a very interesting history and culture and one that is different from that of America¹s. Black Metal is very much a European and a Norwegian phenomena. I have seen the growing interest in Black Metal since we visited America for the first time in 2000 and I believe our time has finally come in America too. The Black Metal scene over there is taking shape now."
With more dates to be announced, the confirmed itinerary for Satyricon¹s "The Return of the Antichrist" tour are as follows:
DECEMBER
2 The Pound @ Pier 96, San Francisco, CA
3 The Whiskey, Los Angeles, CA
5 Mason Jar, Phoenix, AZ

13 Metro, Chicago, IL
16 Trocadero, Philadelphia, PA

Sammy Hagar Denies Van Halen Split Rumours
Sammy Hagar says don't believe all those rumors about him leaving Van Halen. Hagar writes on his official redrocker.com website, "Listen here, all these crazy rumors flying around cyberspace are that. Plain and simple, I never said I was quitting Van Halen. There has been no discussion as to when or where we're going to pick this show up on the road and do it all over again cause quite honestly, 80 shows since June 11 -- wow, I'm bushed... But baby, we are rockin'. The adrenalin in pumpin'. We're having a blast and you need to come check it out for yourself. If you ain't jacked when you get there, I guarantee you you'll be jacked when you leave."
There's been talk this year about Van Halen hitting Europe in 2005, but nothing's been confirmed.
Black Sabbath Fan Cover Competition
Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi's official message board has launched a competition inspired by a topic started by Nero Kalem. This is how it will work:
1. Design an album cover picture related to Black Sabbath in some way, whether it be a song title, an alternative album cover or a new Black Sabbath album cover.
2. Upload your picture to the web, send the URL through a PM, it will be posted on the message board for all to see. Another way of doing it is to upload it to the "Ideal Black Sabbath Album Covers" thread saying that you want it as a competition entry, and it will be added to the competition thread.
One entry per member, please.
The prize is a copy of "The 1996 DEP Sessions" signed by both Tony Iommi and Glenn Hughes. The competition will be judged by Tony Iommi himself.
Sonata Arctica Explain Show Cancellations
The following statement regarding Sonata Arctica's cancelled Madrid and Montpellier shows has been posted on the band's official website:
On November 2nd we had a show in Paris, La Locomotive. During the sound check everything was ok, and the day went by as usual, without any worries. When the starting act played, the air ventilation system we did not know about was turned on, blowing REALLY chilled air on the middle of the stage. Tony complained about this from beginning of our show. Sweating under the hot stage lighting and getting a cold air blowing at you for 11/2 hours will get you a flu, 100% sure. Despite the efforts of our own crew, the local people were unable or unwilling to turn this "wind" off. And it was not on during the soundcheck, so... The sold out house saw the first time anyone in Sonata has gone off stage between songs to get a longsleeve, because he's on goosebumps 'cause he's freezing on the stage...indoors... On the following day Tony woke up with no speaking voice...
When we yet one more day later on Nov 4th arrived in Madrid, the situation felt a bit better, but before the soundcheck Tony started feeling he had fever. We tried a song in the soundcheck, but it was obvious we cannot play that night...this was a deep shock for the whole band. A local doctor checked out Tony and gave him something for the fever and his infected throat. The remaining members made a statement on stage about the situation, while Tony was sleeping in the bus.More...
Metallica Sets Beat At First Metal Auction
Metallica fans paid higher than expected prices for the band's handwritten lyrics and original album cover artwork at the first major public auction of heavy metal music memorabilia. The sale was conducted by Julien Entertainment Saturday, November 6, at the Hard Rock Cafe on West 57th Street in New York City.
"Lyrics to the group's first album in 1983, 'Kill 'Em All', handwritten by Metallica founder Lars Ulrich and early band member Cliff Burton, sold for $2,400 to more than $4,900 each. The pre-sale estimates ranged from $1,000 to $3,000 each," said auctioneer Darren Julien, President of Julien Entertainment of West Hollywood, California.
"There were a total of 16 different handwritten Metallica lyrics, and they sold for a combined total of $48,600. Obviously, some fans were determined to buy historic keepsakes from the band," said Julien. More...

Queens Of The Stone Age Name New Album
Queens Of The Stone Age have set "Lullabies to Paralyze" as the title of their new album, tentatively due on March 22, 2005 via Interscope. "I know March may seem far off (to me anyway), but when the creative engine is chugging at full steam, it's hard to stop," guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen writes on the group's web site. "In other words, songs are still being recorded as we speak. We've just put the finishing touches on 'The Fun Machine Took A Shit & Died', which I think is a good title for a tune so strange. The session started out relatively normal, but then took a turn for the bizarre, once longtime friends Dean Ween, Chris Goss and Jesse 'The Devil' Hughes scarred this song with their musical branding irons."
The group's first album since the departure of bassist Nick Oliveri is expected to include additional guest appearances by ZZ Top guitarist Billy F. Gibbons, Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson and the Distillers' Brody Dalle. Eleven's Alain Johannes is believed to be playing bass during the sessions. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Don't Need a Name" and "The Fun Machine Took a Shit & Died".

The new record is being partly recorded at Karo studios with the help of an engineer, and the rest of the recording process and mixing will be done at Piet Sielck's (Iron Savior) new Powerhouse Studios. The artwork for the record will once again be done by Dirk Illing of XMD. Primal Fear guitarist Tom Naumann makes a guest appearance on lead guitar in the track "Impaler".
In other news, Paragon have posted pictures of their live appearance at the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany in August. Check them out at this location.

Lullacry Finish Recording New Single
Sami Vauhkonen has sent out the following update on Lullacry:
"Lullacry has finished the recordings of the upcoming new single 'Stranger In You'. The song is definitely the most 80's we've done to date. A Great catchy chorus and massive backing vocals in the vein of Bon Jovi, haha! We got some great help from Heikki of Twilighting"
The single will be out worldwide on March 9th, 2005 and will also include a great KISS cover "I Stole Your Love". Lullacry will start the mixings of the new single on next monday at Finnvox studios with Mikko Karmila and finish the rest of the vocals and some additional stuff on December.
