The Banner Singer Forms Wolve

The Banner frontman Joey Southside has announced the launch of a new band called Wolve. Here's what he had to say about it:

"So as some of you obviously know already, I have started a new band. Well it's been 'started' for awhile now but I've just recently started recording demos. The band is called Wolve and the first record/demo is being written by me and Will Putney (same dudes who wrote Frailty).

"No, The Banner isn't breaking up, we're probably not going to be touring anymore, but we're not breaking up (we'll have a new EP out middle of next year). Basically on Frailty there was a lot of more melodic and more out there stuff than the previous records, and though I think it's perfect for the record Frailty, it's definitely not something I want to do on another TB record. So The Banner will be going back to basics and Wolve will be where all the melody and more progressive shit goes."

A demo track from the group (sans vocals) can be heard here.

In Memorium Completes New Album

Six years since recording the critically hailed "From Misery...Comes Darkness" debut full-length, Seattles' own dark death-metal machine In Memorium entered Two Sticks Audio on September 11th, 2008 to begin recording their newest full-length opus, "Lost to Antiquity," with producer Don Gunn at the helm. As of November 22nd, 2008, all tracks have been completed, with the mixing process to begin this month.

"Lost to Antiquity" will feature seven songs of deadly, razor-sharp blackened death metal, covering a wide spectrum of styles within the boundaries of extreme metal whilst retaining the signature In Memorium sound that was established on 1999's "An Ancient Word" MCD/EP and expanded upon on 2003's "From Misery...Comes Darkness" CD. Song titles include "One Above All," "Beneath the Endless Ocean," "O' Hail Glorious Death," "Discipline," "The Awakening," "Erosion," and "In Memorium." The artwork and layout is completed and was realised by local underground artist Rouman Kirinkov.

"The early mixes have been very promising," says vocalist Nihilist, "and we look forward to completing this eternally damned and delayed release, for a tentative April 2009 release on Moribund Cult."

Centaurus A Signs To Listenable Records

German technical death metal maestros CENTAURUS A will be releasing their debut album, "Side Effects Expected" on Listenable in March 2009. The band got their name from a galaxy: "It is one of the most interesting and peculiar galaxies in the sky, and is a strong source of radio radiation (therefore the designation Centaurus A); it is actually the nearest radio galaxy. Centaurus A galaxy has swallowed another galaxy similar to ours about 2 billion years ago."

The band was formed in 2000 and released three demos: "Last Step Line" [2000], "Nimbus" [2001] and "Narcotic" [2003]. CENTAURUS A is: Johannes Henke [vocals], Hernan Martinez, Maik Matanovic [guitars],
Michael Ahlgrimm [bass], Patrick Schroeder [drums].

Centaurus A is defining their musical goal as follows : "We're constantly working on developing an unique style of metal, always trying to push our technical limits as musicians to new levels."

"Side Effects Expected" is a collection of melodic death metal and was recorded with Jacob Hansen at his own studio in Denmark.

Serj Tankian Writing Songs For A New Musical

Former System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian has revealed that he is currently composing songs for a musical entitled, "Prometheus Bound" which is based on the ancient Greek tale of a mortal who stole fire from the gods. The shows book and lyrics were written by Steven Sater, who has achieved success on Broadway with "Spring Awakening"

Tankian says: "It's, I mean, I've worked with Daron (Malakian, System Of A Down guitarist), who's written some lyrics, but mostly I've wrote my own lyrics. So working with a playwright who's giving you everything that should be done and you could just provide the music as a composer is really interesting. It's exciting. It's a whole new thing for me, you know. I've never done this before, so I'm in."

God Forbid Guitarist Hopes For Poor Reviews?

God Forbid guitarist Doc Coyle has posted a new blog on MetalSucks.net. An excerpt from the blog can be viewed below:

"Seriously, I'm talking about haterade because I think bands that get hated on generally become more successful. Right now, I'm hoping, pleading and wishing for this album to be panned by critics, internet trolls and whoever wants to shit on it. You may ask me, "Why Dallas? Why dost thou-eth needest us to protesteth soeth mucheth?" Because we need some boiling water in our career. We need people to hate. We need people to defend. We need to fight a fucking war for this record to push us to another place. We are a successful band. I want to be more successful. I want anyone out there who hates God Forbid to say they hate us. I don't want reasons. I don't want debates. I want hate!!!

"I have a theory about why people don't drink God Forbid Haterade. Let's look at the careers of the most recent hated bands: TRIVIUM, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE are just a couple of examples. These bands have great careers, but they have strong Haterade Brands. I'm sure their myspace messages are divided up into fan mail and hate mail. We've received hate mail and it's pretty fucking great. But not as widespread as I really want and need it to be. These bands catch hate for a vast amount of reasons, but mostly I think it's because they have images not because of their music. I think it's because people can't stand that people like them. I also think it's because they are white! It's very normal and OK in our society to hate white people. I don't hate white people but it's real easy to hate a successful white person.

"It's a Catch 22 to hate on God Forbid. It's like the debates we had with Barack Obama. If you're white and hate us, people think you're racist. If you're black and hate us, you're a sell out. If you're Hispanic and hate us, just go do some cocaine. More...

Vreid Posts New Song Online

Vreid has posted the first song from their upcoming new album, "Milorg" on their MySpace page. Here is an update from the band:

"It is with great proud we reveal the first track of the upcoming VREID album 'MILORG' out on Jan 5th in Norway and Jan 19th in the rest of Europe. The new track 'Speak Goddamnit' perfectly displays the great progression of the band, incorporating both the classic black'n roll expression and the newfound progressive melodic aspect. The first reviews have already come in with a 13/15 in German magazine LEGACY and a 4th place in soundcheck in the same magazine. Norwegian magazine SCREAM also gave the album an impressive 5/6 and Terrorizer Magazine says:

"'Without straying too far from their Windir template of scathing pagan black metal, warmongers Vreid surge forth with yet more blistering blackened fury. Metal with military precision, Vreid are the true battle metallers.'"

The album will be avaliable on both CD and vinyl.

Paindivision Signs Japanese Deal w/ Soundholic

PAINDIVISION has announced that they've signed a deal with Soundholic Records in Japan. Alongside label mates such as Hatesphere and Soilwork, Soundholic have built a reputation as one of the most respected metal labels in Japan.

The band comments on the deal: “We are very happy to be releasing through such a well respected company like Soundholic. The Japanese metal fans have shown strong support for the band on our 2007 tour and the current plan is to head back to Japan in support of the new album in 2009.”

Soundholic will release the Japanese version of the album with a special bonus track. The featured track will be "Like Hell" a cover of Japanese metal legends Loudness.

Stu (guitarist) comments “I have always been a big fan of the guitarist from Loudness, Akira Takasashi, he’s one of the most underrated guitar players and has influenced and entire generation of players. In Japan he’s a god, so this was a test from a players perspective for me and we had a great time recording it. We performed the song live on our final show at Takamatsu in 2007 and it seemed the perfect choice for the new record.”

“One Path” was recently released in Australia by Riot Entertainment in October this year. “One Path” signals a return to high powered shred metal while remaining true to the classic metal roots of WASP, Motorhead and Black Sabbath.

The release is scheduled in Japan for February 2009. Check paindivision.com for all new song samples and news.
