Ramming Speed Parts with Bassist, Plans Split CDs

Canadian thrashers Ramming Speed have parted with their bassist and are seeking a permanent replacement. Here's the complete update from the band:

"Hails, followers of the Speed! There are some new things on the horizon for the band so I felt like an update was in order.

"First, and most importantly, Ramming Speed are currently dealing with our first line up change. Derek “The Bass Player” Cloonan has always been like a brother to us. We’ve fought the good fight together for the last 3 years, risking life and limb traversing the US as a solidified unit of rock. In any case, Derek recently cut his hair. He said something like “I don’t wanna to make a big deal out of it”. Alas, it is a big deal, so we kicked him out of the band. Phil “Phil in” Harwood (Bones Brigade, Coctopus) will once again be bringing his shit-stache, Rickenbacker, and smoke machine with us on the road taking Derek’s place on our upcoming winter mini-tour. Anyone interested in the permanent position must have long hair and be able to play the set set after drinking 6 or 7 beers.

"Moving on, we will be playing a few shows or so on our way back from THIS IS FOR YOU FEST this coming week. Here's the schedule for that:" More...

USC Band To Play A7X's "Almost Easy" At Rose Bowl

The USC Trojan Marching Band will perform Avenged Sevenfold's hit single "Almost Easy" during the Rose Bowl's halftime show on January 1, 2009. The broadcast begins at 1:30 p.m., with halftime starting at approximately 3:40 p.m. All times are PST.

The Trojan Band has already garnered a lot of attention earlier this year when it performed the song at a USC vs. Stanford game and a bootleg video was posted online.

Now, the Marching Band's performance of "Almost Easy" at the Rose Bowl will likely make it onto national television as ABC guarantees a three-minute portion of halftime be shown live.

You can watch the first performance from the Stanford game below, after the jump. More...

Chevelle Laying Down Rough Draft of New Album

Chevelle bassist Dean is getting ready to lay down bass for a rough draft of the band's new album. His full update goes off on some tangents (to say the least), but is as follows:

"Tomorrow I go to our studio to put down what is now the last of the bass parts for this album's rough draft, and I thought it an appropriate time to let our loyal fans know what is going on. I don't know where you live, but in Chicago right now its pretty snowy and cold, and unless you own a large SUV or a pair of snow shoes you can't go anywhere, which can be a good thing for creativity, or you might be like Sam, who is more likely to build a huge jump and launch every type of motorized vehicle off of it. Whatever the case, cabin fever is not an option. I can always fall back on a game called peg (a primitive form of dodge ball) with my 1-year-old daughter. She's a sucker for the double pump. But unlike most games there's no reward, just good old fashion fun. Maybe some redness around the top of the head (joking) but I think we all enjoy a little something for our efforts for making it through another year. Although it may be a couple of months away, music is our gift to you even if you don't like it. Like the time my grandma gave me a cheese log for Christmas. She knew it was good for me, but I wanted a drum set. Well then, I think I have officially "rambled", but as my daughter says, "dewi dewi". I think it means "whatever" in baby talk, or "I crapped my pants". Either way, it won't be long before we are back to work and doing this thing all over again. So be safe and keep your pimp hand strong."

"And no, I didn't compare this album to a cheese log."

Xtreem Music Comments On Abhorer Release

Xtreem Music has issued a statement regarding the recent Abhorer release.

"This statement is just made to make clear the false accusations appeared in what's supposed to be the official ABHORER MySpace where they accuse XTREEM MUSIC of having released a bootleg CD of their stuff.

"1 - During February and August 2004 we were contacted and were dealing with ex-ABHORER member named Crucifier (aka Hashimuddin Bin Hasmuni) with the intention to release the 'Unholy Blasphemer' CD. After an agreement was reached, both parts signed a contract and XTREEM MUSIC paid the sum of US$ 1.500 on the bank account of such person. Both the contract and receipt of the bank transfer are still in our possession as a proof that we did everything the right way.

"2 - In 2006, looks like the guy from the long-time defunct label SHIVADARSHANA REC. saw that this CD was released and for some reason he just tried to make some profit out of it and contacted us saying that it was not legal and we should stop manufacturing this CD and sending him all our stock to him for free. He was never able to prove us he still hold the rights or that he got in touch with any of the members of the band to ask wether if this was an illegal release. More...

Use of GNR Songs in Guitar Hero Was Unauthorized

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has issued an open letter to the makers of Guitar Hero saying the use of songs such as Welcome To The Jungle and Sweet Child O' Mine in the hugely popular game were "unauthorised".

However the singer didn't mind ex-bandmate Slash being associated with it.

"[Slash] being in Guitar Hero is fine, but not when Activison is using Welcome To The Jungle unauthorized," wrote Rose. "I wasn't broadsided I read about it as it moved along but Activision continually denied it right up to the release. That's some low life chicanery on all their parts."

"Yes, Slash was in Guns and on Welcome To The Jungle and he has rights to perform it," he continued. "But not to be represented in this context in association with Guns. And since they weren't granted the license it'll take some sorting."

Nailed To Begin Work on New Album in 2009

UK death metal band, Nailed, have issued the following update:

"Well we've just finished up the tour for 'Hatred, Failure...' and we're back in the rehearsal space just before Christmas. We're holed up finishing song number 7 right now and are aiming to write another two before booking studio time. So far the material is crushingly heavy, a little faster, but also diverging into more twisted realms in terms of polyrhythms. It's definitely the best stuff we've written, more focused and cohesive as we've churned it out with one complete lineup in the space of a few months, unlike all the other material which was written through turbulent times and over long periods. We'll almost definitely do a studio recording blog thing with video updates once we're in there so keep your eyes open for that." More...
