Black Dahlia Murder Jam Packs Small Austin Club
The dark, dank halls of Red 7 summoned the youthful masses to see two leading groups of today’s breakdown-heavy metal scene. Speaking of dank, weed grinding death metallers, Cannabis Corpse complimented The Black Dahlia’s core-meets-death sound with a more traditional, Florida death metal offering. Although Red 7 didn’t overcrowd the bill with locals—The Black Dahlia Murder, All Shall Perish and Cannabis Corpse were afforded long set times—a lone local band warmed up the PA system. I didn’t catch this group’s name nor can I “breakdown” their performance. What I can say, though, is their bouncy, burlesque sound proved the ideal style for the night’s lime-lighted acts.
In the case of Red 7’s lighting system, the colored-coded adage listed above denotes strict figurative usage. Fluorescent light bulbs could have been a fitting source of light for Cannabis Corpse and equally illuminated the group. The stoners blazing blunts at the front of the stage meant even lesser light for photography. Those out of range from smelling the sweet leaf might have thought, “Wow, they’re using dry ice! Nice fog effect!” Rolling audio brutality into symmetrically shaped jibs, the Virginia-based band force-fed the crowd a meal of slamming grooves, katana-bladed guitar tones and slick bass solos.
Andy 'Weedgrinder' Horn pushed out screams owing to George Fisher’s vile-natured highs and Chris Barnes indecipherable lows. Instead of utilizing known fill-in words such Tom G. Warrior’s famous “Heeey” or Rob Zombies “Yeaaah,” Weedgrinder threw out quick, fitting phrases such as “get high.” Led by the Hall brothers--Municipal Waste bassist, Phil “Landphil” Hall and drummer Josh 'HallHammer' Hall, the quartet’s frenetic head banging super-charged Mary Jane horror film scenarios songs. “Blazing” through material from such Cannibal Corpse parodied albums as “Tubes of the Resonated” and “Blunted at Birth,” set highlights included “Sentenced to Burn One,” “Dead by Bong” and set closer “Skull Full of Bong Hits.” More...

Warbringer Posts New Tour Diary
Warbringer has posted a new tour diary online through Decibel Magazine. An excerpt from the blog follows:
"Hello out there. Kevill here again, coming to you from some bar in Manhattan where I have found a place to actually sit down and write. Finding a spot took some time, and I had to buy a fucking $7 beer (seriously, what the hell?), but now it is time to recap on the past week of the tour.
"So the show went off in Florida, where we proceeded to go to a hotel with our pals in Landmine Marathon (everyone on the tour is total bro-dude-pals by now, horrible gay jokes abound. That seems to be the truly consistent mark of tour-brotherhood, for some reason). This had been going on all afternoon as it was Adam’s birthday, but I missed the afternoon festivities to write the last one of these. We stayed up ‘til 5:30 or something drinking cheap beer, and Travis aka Richard, our merch guy, did some prank calls, which he is kind of legendary for. Usually just playing the typical Richard character, who’s a good ‘ol American trucker who calls the waitresses 'sweetheart' at Denny’s all across the South. But for the one in New York, he does his best/worst New Yorker accent and goes, 'Ey can I have a grand slam, ah?,' and the guy at Denny’s responds immediately 'Ey, FUCK YOU! Ah?' and hangs up the phone. Stereotypes time and time again prove themselves to be hilariously true.
"Next day is Atlanta, where we once again play the Masquerade. This venue is an old sawmill or something, and has the dubious honor of having some of the most consistently foul bathrooms of any venue I have ever played. I saw a full blown flood in one of them once…Definitely was not pretty. But the place itself is goddamn cool, there’s all this rusted old machinery lying around outside, and I spent some time examining it and trying to determine its purpose. No luck. It is a bit of a labyrinth in general, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some rooms in there no one has seen for years, with some forgotten skeletons in them or something. We are playing the stage called 'hell' this time. It was a rager.
"After the show, Lazarus AD, Diamond Plate, and us go and drive about 40 miles to the nearest truckstop we can find and park in a closed-off formation so that there is a wide space between the vehicles that no one else can see. We proceed to break out the 30 pack and start partying in a truckstop parking lot. Diamond Plate, being young lads, of course do not partake, and of course none of the rest of us force those poor young boys to drink the beer-horn. We are all civilized here. Hahaha, those dudes got wasted."

Exhorder Vocalist And Guitarist Quit The Band
Exhorder frontman Kyle Thomas has sent a message to Blabbermouth.net, in which he has announced that he, along with guitarist Jay Ceravolo, has decided to leave the group. His message reads as follows:
"On behalf of Jay Ceravolo [Exhorder guitarist] and myself, it is with much regret and disappointment that we are both leaving Exhorder.
"There is much darkness surrounding Exhorder at this time due to business and personal differences.
"We extend deep apologies to those that this has both inconvenienced and disappointed.
"In the wake of the passing of [Exhorder bassist] Frankie Sparcello [in March] and the constant state of disarray that the band has found itself in since reforming, the negatives have far outweighed the positives. We both feel that this is what we must do, and wish that things could have turned out better, as Exhorder has never attained the potential that it so rightfully should have.
"I wish all of my brothers involved well and good luck in whatever the future brings them, whether or not Exhorder continues."
