Trivium: The New Metallica
In an article from the New York Metro newspaper, writer Amber Ray finds the new Metallica - Trivium. Several excerpts from the article:
Dreaming of becoming the next Metallica seems so early 90's. But forgive the boys of Orlando, Fla.-based metal outfit Trivium for wanting to recapture the rock gods' glory days. When James Hetfield and company broke into the mainstream, Trivium's members were still in elementary school.
"I think that ever since day one our main goal was to be the next Metallica." says 18-year-old Heafy [lead vocals and guitar] over the phone. "Ever since I joined the band when I was 13, the drive to grab that goal never fell through."

Ozzy, Steven Tyler Cover Clapton For Relief Fund
According to ContactMusic.com, Sharon Osbourne has enlisted a host of stars to cover Eric Clapton's tragic song "Tears In Heaven" for a charity single to raise money for the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami.

Osbourne says, "We approached Eric and his lawyers and everyone else said yes straight away — we could not think of a more appropriate song."
The song will include the vocal talents of Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams, Sir Elton John, AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler, Gwen Stefani and Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne.
Cowell is in talks for WESTLIFE, Will Young and Brian McFadden to join the track, which will be released on Sony and BMG Records.

Wolf's Rehearsal Room Burglarized
The rehersal room of the Swedish heavy metal band Wolf has been burglarized, two guitars have been stolen. The following message have been posted at the official Wolf website:
Some fucko (must be a Limahl-fan) has broken in to our rehearsal and stolen BOTH of Nicks flying V's, plus two cordless systems and some stereo equipment.
One of the guitars is a one of a kind custom built V-model for Nick, Black with flames, one zebra-coloured DiMarzio-mike and a zebra mighty mike by the neck; it's the same shape as a Epiphone Flying V. It was stowed in a black hard case. The other is a Gibson Flying V 67, Cherry, with two DiMarzio Super Distortion mikes. The guitar was stowed in the original case.
See a pic of both guitars in action here.
Tips that lead to the recovery of one or both of these guitars will be rewarded with eternal heavy metal love from Wolf plus the usual finders fee.
In the unlikely event that it is Black Oak Arkansas that has stolen our gear, we might forget about the incident and just advise them to use a local music store for any future thefts. Thank you.

Rammstein "Mein Teil" Inspired By Grisly True Tale
Rammstein, the German band best known for the aggro song "Du Hast" and singer Till Lindemann's habit of intentionally lighting himself on fire on stage, have pushed the envelope further with their single, "Mein Teil," writing the song about a creepy tale of cannibalism.
According to mtv.com, the song, from Rammstein's latest CD, "Reise, Reise," was based on a widely publicized case in Germany where one man advertised on the Internet for another man to "dine on." A respondent offered up himself for supper, and indeed became the willing victim of cannibalism.
Rammstein guitarist Richard Kruspe said, "I was really interested to find out about why he would want to kill a man and eat [him]. It was just a really interesting story, so we decided to make a song about it."
There is videotape of the actual cannibalistic encounter, but it remains in police custody, and Rammstein's video for the song "Mein Teil," which translates roughly as "My Part," contains no references to the actual case.
Rammstein has confirmed European tour dates in February and June, and there is speculation that they will perform Stateside in April and May.
"Keine Lust" will be the next single released from "Reise Reise," slated to hit radio in February.
"Reise Reise," whose title roughly translates to "Journey Journey" in English, is the follow-up to the band's 2001 release, "Mutter."
Ozzy Osbourne Bins Buckethead
Ozzy Osbourne has ditched plans to link up with former Guns N' Roses star Buckethead - because the guitarist refused to lose his famous look.
The guitarist was called in as Ozzy's possible latest guitarist for this year's Ozzfest tour, but Osbourne admits he couldn't persuade the eccentric axeman to ditch his trademark KFC bucket hat and white facemask - and he refused to call him Buckethead.
Ozzy tells rock magazine Revolver: "I met him and asked him to work with me but only if he got rid of the fucking bucket.
"I came back a bit later and he's wearing this green fucking Martian's-hat thing. I said: 'Look, just be yourself.'
"He told me his name was Brian, so I said that's what I'd call him. He says: 'No one calls me Brian except my mother.' So I said: 'Pretend I'm your mum then.'"
Ozzy is now looking to reunite with former guitarist pal Zakk Wylde for the 10th anniversary tour this summer.
He adds: "He's fucking nuts. It depends on a lot of things. He'll probably be with me."
DevilDriver Frontman Answer Fan Questions
Devildriver frontman Dez Fafara (ex-Coal Chamber) has answered a number of fan questions about the group's upcoming album and touring activities via the group's official web site.
Q: After you get your CD finished you said you may start touring in February. Now in February Slipknot and Lamb Of God start a tour, would there be any chance you will be touring with them?
Dez Fafara: We have been asked to do five shows with Slipknot (all of Texas) from March 28 to April 5. We confirmed this a week before Christmas, and we are excited to see everybody. We'd like to thank Slipknot and Lamb Of God for having us on, we'll see you soon. From there it could be possible to see Devildriver to start their first headlining tour of the U.S.
Q: Just wondering, is your new album sounding a lot heavier than the first?
Dez Fafara: Less linear, more brutal, and intricately structured, faster, tons of groove and hook. I think working with (producer) Colin Richardson has brought out the best in all of us. The greatest thing about Devildriver and the new album ("The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand") is that both the media and the fans won't be able to paint us in a category. We are truly doing our own thing, and having a great time with it. And you can feel it in the room as it is being created. And now I would like to take the time to be self-indulgent and gloat at the fact that Devildriver has great musicians. The legendary Colin Richardson has been amazing to work with. We would like to thank Monte Conner, from Roadrunner Records, for pointing us in his direction. But to be fucking blunt with you, if you are a Devildriver fan now you will be more than pleased with what you hear in the future.
