SOAD's Malakian: We're Not A Political Band
System of a Down guitarist and chief songwriter Daron Malakian is uncomfortable with the band being tagged a "political" band. "We just sing about what the world, about what's around us," he tells the Sydney Morning Herald. "We have political songs and we have songs about, y'know, psycho-groupie-cocaine crazy. Somebody asked me, 'Are you guys about sex, drugs, rock'n'roll, politics, having a good time?' I said, 'Yes!' We're not about a history lesson, like, 'You gotta learn all about the Armenian genocide' or all about politics. We're not only about that and we're not only about sex, drugs and rock'n'roll, we're like a fu**ed-up mutation of all that sh**."

Stratovarius Reunites
The following message has been posted on Stratovarius' official website:
After all the turmoil of 2004, we are happy to announce that Stratovarius has reunited with the classic line-up: Timo Tolkki, Timo Kotipelto, Jörg Michael, Jari Kainulainen and Jens Johansson.
Since his breakdown in April, we have patiently been waiting for Timo Tolkki's health to improve. It has been, and since about 6 weeks he has been strong enough to go back to work.
Also during the past months, after much talk, soul-searching and reflection most of the damage within the band has been repaired. The rest of us now understand Timo's condition, and have slowly come to terms with it. There has been forgiveness, and everyone has a good relationship again.
Many of the immense problems we were facing have now found concrete solutions.
Lastly, we can announce that work is already in progress on completely new material.
Destruction To Sign With AFM Records
Destruction frontman "Schmier" gave us the following statement:
We would like to bring the speculations and rumours about a label chance of Destruction to an end!
After four terrific and successful years with Nuclear Blast, the decision to work with a new label wasn´t easy at all
We would like to thank Markus Staiger and his Team for the great friendship and the fantastic work! They had a big participation of the positive progress of our reunion!
AFM Records is the new partner of our trust! The contracts will get signed within the next days! The new album will be released via AFM/ Soulfood here in Centre Europe and thru other distribution partners of the label worldwide, a little later this summer!
The pre-production is running at full blast. Because of the intense worldwide touring, it feels that the band never sounded tighter and more motivated than at this present moment!

Big thanks to the Toronto fans for being so supportive to us when we needed them the most. We love you all...and we'll see you all in HELL!!

New Meshuggah Album Nearing Completion
Swedish extreme experimental metallers Meshuggah published a status report on their website regarding their upcoming album “Catch 33”, due April 11th:
Hi all and sorry for this e x t r e m e l y long time of no updates about "Catch 33"!
Nah.. we´re not sorry actually, you should know us by now... and we got more important things to do than write useless information on the news..hehe, we´ve been doing the same fucking thing all this time - workingwithcatchthirtythree - so we don´t wanna repeat ourselfs right?!
Anyway, we just wanna tell you guys that we are on the l.a.s.t. couple of weeks work, "just" some pieces in the puzzle that needs to be forced to fit with some help from the crowbar of love... some mixing and then we should be done. We said "should" didn´t we..??
The song is of course a smashing radio hit and should be in the top 3 most aired songs ever within 2 weeks time.
Raunchy Working On New Album
Raunchy, modern metallers from Denmark, started working on new material. So far, the basic structure of eight songs is finished; vocals, electronics, keyboards etc. will be added over the next few months. As far as the general musical direction, the band states: “All we can say is that it sounds like … Raunchy! Expect some new things and a lot of melody. In other words, it's going to be: brutal, melodic, fresh, and a fucking heavy monster.”
The album is still untitled, producing will be Jacob Hansen, mixing will be Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Mnemic)
Regarding the lyrics, new singer Kasper Thomsen says:
As I read a lot of poetry, I have an interest in writing lyrics that deal with other things than pussy and whiskey. The lyrics on the next album are going to be more dark, existentialistic and related to classic themes such as life/death/love/hate. Some will be pure fiction, some will be related to my own life.
Upcoming Raunchy tour dates:
Jan. 22 Copenhagen, DK - The Rock
Jan. 28 Helsinki, FI - Finnish Metal Expo
Jan. 29 Tallin, EE - Club Hollywood
Mar. 13 Allborg, DK - Studenterhuset
Mar. 18 Odense, DK - Rytmeposten
Mar. 19 Lyngby, DK - Templet
May 07 Copenhagen, DK - Stengade 30

Napalm Death, The Haunted Tsunami Benefit CD
All of us have followed the horrible catastrophe that happened December 26th across the Indian ocean when the tsunami hit countries like Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and even Bangladesh, the Maldive Islands, Somalia and Tanzania. We assume that no further words are needed to explain why Napalm Death had the idea to release a charity single to raise money to help the victims of the tsunami. For this very special occasion Napalm Death donated the brandnew track “The Great And The Good” feat. Jello Biafra on guest-vocals from their upcoming album “The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code”. The Haunted picked the song “Smut King” from the digipak-pressing of their acclaimed album “rEVOLVEr” and Heaven Shall Burn added “Strassenkampf” (originally by Die Skeptiker and feat. guitarist Patrick Schleitzer on vocals), the exclusive bonus-track of the Korean pressing of “Antigone”. All bands and Jello Biafra wrote liner-notes for the single.
To collect as much money as possible Napalm Death, The Haunted, Heaven Shall Burn and Century Media decided not to make this a retail-single. The single will be strictly limited to 1.000 hand-numbered copies and sold only on the two shows in January, some copies might be sold directly by the bands.
Napalm Death shows:
Jan. 22 (D) Bochum – Matrix w/ Heaven Shall Burn, Maroon, Do or Die and End of Days
Jan. 24 (UK) London – Underworld w/ Mistress, Cephalic Carnage
Number 1-10 will be signed by all three bands and auctioned on Ebay. All proceeds of the single (approximately EUR 5,00 with a sales-price of EUR 6,00) will be collected and donated to the Red Cross after the single is sold out.
