System Of A Down's Malakian: We're Not A Political Band

Band Photo: System Of A Down (?)
System of a Down guitarist and chief songwriter Daron Malakian is uncomfortable with the band being tagged a "political" band. "We just sing about what the world, about what's around us," he tells the Sydney Morning Herald. "We have political songs and we have songs about, y'know, psycho-groupie-cocaine crazy. Somebody asked me, 'Are you guys about sex, drugs, rock'n'roll, politics, having a good time?' I said, 'Yes!' We're not about a history lesson, like, 'You gotta learn all about the Armenian genocide' or all about politics. We're not only about that and we're not only about sex, drugs and rock'n'roll, we're like a fu**ed-up mutation of all that sh**."

Flip-Floppers. Im f***ing glad George Bush won. I voted for him because I trust him. You honestly think Im going to vote for some a$$hole c***sucker like john kerry because everyone say so? You think Im going to vote for him because everyone says he isnt Gearge Bush? Thats like saying Hitler didnt deserve to die. f*** this band and f*** what they are trying to say. They are a political band. If Bush's reelection doesnt put fuel on the fire for them, then they arent a political band. If it does they are. I mean they were on that Axis of justice CD for Christsakes.

F**K SOAD. f*** THEIR TERRORIST SUPPORTING ASSES. F**K THEM FOR SAYING AMERICA GOT WHAT IT DESERVED ON 9/11. F**K THEM FOR SAYING WE HAD IT COMING. F**K THEM FOR INFLUENCING YOUTH TO BE SO LIBERAL THAT THEY WILL ACCEPT ANYTHING THAT MAY HAPPEN TO THEM OR THIER COUNTRY. F**K THEM FOR NOT SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS ABROAD. F**K THEM FOR NOT GIVING A SH*T THAT PEOPLE ARE OUT THERE DYING JUST SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE THEIR OWN POLITICAL OPINIONS. JUST F**K THEM PERIOD. HIMMM!!!!

Dude, the word you're looking for is apathetic, not liberal. I don't see that there are people who are dying so that SOAD can have their own political opinions though... if you think that's why your troops are over in the Middle East, you're way off base. And as far as America getting what it deserved? No-one deserves what happened on 9/11, but you cannot deny that the American Government's intrusive and destructive foreign policy in the Middle East came home to roost that day.

Somethings funny about watching people going on wild, opinionated, uninformed/misinformed tirades about howerver it is their puny eyes see the world and THEN act as though it's ALL fact. System of A Down have their view of the world. verbally defensive conservatives have theirs, as do verbally defensive liberals and the whole moderate view holding community has theirs. Trying to to publicly squash someones views you disagree with is only going to push them harder to make/prove you wrong in the future anyway. Besides System of A Down have political messages, as well as a whole lot of other messages. Politics is one of many-many-many of the things the band has. I'd say less than half of their material is based on politics, most of it is just things in life in general or bizarre and crazy things.

Well put PorcupineOpeth99. I can see when you bash System of a Down for what they say, but then why go off on a tangent to include other people and their views, it's senseless.
And not all liberals are flip-floppers. Just the ones that Fox News covers.
I think there were a few other people out there more suited for the democratic presidential candidate than John Kerry. I didn't support him from the beginning- he really didn't stand out at all until the Iowa caucuses. The only reason I supported him is because he was the democratic candidate on the bill opposing Bush.

AC666, "I DON'T SEE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE DYING SO THAT SOAD (OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER) CAN HAVE THIER OWN POLITICAL OPINIONS??? THAT'S EXACTLY WHY THEY ARE OVER THERE DYING, DUDE. YEAH, I SUPPORT BUSH AND THE WAR AGAINST TERROR, AND IF SOMEONE DOES NOT STOP IT, IT WILL ONLY SPREAD AND GAIN MORE SUPPORT. I HAD A VERY GOOD FRIEND WHO WAS ON VACATION, JUST A VACATION, AND WAS UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO BE SIGHTSEEING AT GROUND ZERO AND WENT DOWN, SO IT HIT'S ME A LITTLE HARDER TO SEE THAT PEOPLE ARE SO "APATHETIC". AND BACK TO POLITICAL OPINIONS, ANOTHER REASON THAT WE ARE OVER THERE IS TO GIVE THE MIDDLE EAST PEOPLE THEMSELVES A CHANCE TO EXPRESS THIER POLITICAL OPINIONS WITHOUT BEING BEHEADED FOR IT. THINK ABOUT IT DUDE, WOULD YOU ACTUALLY BE WILLING TO LOSE YOUR HEAD BY SAYING SOAD SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE THIER OWN POLITICAL OPINIONS? IF TERRORISM IS ALLOWED TO SPREAD ON A MORE GLOBAL LEVEL THAN IT ALREADY ENCOMPASSES, YOU COULD BE EXECUTED FOR EVEN LISTENING TO MUSIC THAT MIGHT NOT CONFORM TO SOMEONES STANDARDS. YA GOT TO STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE. HIMKMM!!!!

camelfucckers...that sounds like a rational, non-prejudiced, intelligent, and educated outlook. Isnt that expression just as bad as any racial slangs directed at say, african americans or latinos? LOK HIMMM, if your going to try to convince anyone with your amusingly childish, redneck "GRRR IM AMERICAN AND I HAVE TREMENDOUS TESTICLES" world view, try preeching to a klan rally. They seem like your type.

acdc666 thinks he has it all figured out. In his mind the U.S. govt. is the only power in the world to play the '' lesser of two evils" game. I love liberal points of view on world politics. Take the pacifier out your mouth, mate. The last thing the world needs is to be held hostage by the islamic radicals. Of course it's all about oil. It's the blood of all economies. If these f***s continue to organize behind the wall of terrorism, then it will be just a matter of time before they impose their will upon us. Do you think an islamic society will allow you to continue your open homosexual life style. I know bradly wouldn't last 1 second. Hopefully the liberal f***s in the rest of western civilization will wake up and back up the U.S, or we all will be wearing head scarfs!

30. writes:
Do you really think that Islam could impose their will on the US and Western society? Last time I checked, it was you guys who held all the weapons, petal. You are aware that with a single command that your armed forces could wipe any trace of the Middle East off of the map in a heartbeat?
If one of those 'camelf***ers' drops a plane in the middle of downtown Sydney it will be because our little c***sucker of a prime minister is so far up Bush's a$$ with this 'War On Terror' horsesh** - Effectively, our government will have brought it upon us, just as 9/11 was brought about by the history of unwarranted involvement in the Middle East by your country.
If we had MINDED OUR OWN BUSINESS it wouldn't even be an issue. Sure, the US had the right to go after Al Qaeda if indeed they were responsible for the attack, but that didn't give them right to blow the f*** out of Afghanistan. And I fail to see what jurisdiction the US has in Iraq at all. If the Iraqis wanted Saddam out of power so badly they would've done it themselves, right?
'In his mind the U.S. govt. is the only power in the world to play the '' lesser of two evils" game.'
No, they're not - most world governments are backstabbing liars just like your government. You guys just hog the press with it.
Maybe it's time you stopped sniffing petrol, Muffster.

"They're flipfloppers, just like most of the liberals."
Iraq has WMDs and can fire them in a matter of minutes, but then it turned out they didn't have any. Which last week the White House admitted.
Iraq had terrorist ties, but then the 9/11 Panel found none.
Bush says he will not impose his religion on others, but seeks a constitutional ban on gay marriage.
You people are seriously so stupid. With the definition come up with during the campaign for "flip-flopping," every single person in the history of the world flip flops whenever a situation changes. Kerry was clearly not the best choice in the world for president but his "flip-flops" had explanations that were usually ignored or skewed by his opponents. Just like the WMDs and terrorist ties things to Iraq have "explanations" of their own if you believe the administration.
By the outrageously retarded definition for "flip-flopping" that stereotypical Republicans always use to describe those dirty anti-American horrible attempts at human people known as "liberals," these are all flip-flops:
I planned to go to the beach today, but then decided not to. (Let's just say it rained or something. Either way, it's a so-called "flip-flop.")
I was going to take that class, but then I didn't. (Maybe it filled up and had no space left.)
I used to watch MTV, but then I stopped. (At some point you realized it sucks beyond belief.)
I was going to buy Cheerios, but then I bought the store brand. (You realized the store brand is cheaper and decided the name brand wasn't worth it.)
I was going to go on, but now I won't. (I'm assuming you will get the point with the examples I already came up with.)

Some may need to purchase a dictionary and have a look at the definition of the word "liberal" as it applies in political terms. Funny to see how some people say they look down upon something while at the same time they are behaving in a manner more suited to that which they look down upon. In the future try not to throw around terms you here on CNN and MTV or whatever crap you're watching, when you don't have much grasp on the meaning of the terms. As far as "flip flopping" goes...I really hate that term. People's opinions can change and often do. Do you really feel the same way about everything now that you did 3 months ago? Musicians are people too. Flawed and screwed up as the rest of you. Love the music...not the media.

DAMN, DO I HAVE TO SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU? OK, I'LL GO REAL SLOW SO YOU CAN KEEP UP. AFTER ONE OF YOUR MANY STUPID COMMENTS, I SAID KISS MY AMERICAN ASS. YOU REPLIED THAT YOU ARE AMERICAN AND THEN WENT OFF ON A GAY RANT. ARE YOU WITH ME SO FAR? DO I NEED TO GO SLOWER? OK, THEN, I REFERRED TO YOU HAVING TOUNGED A LOT OF AMERICAN MALE AS*HOLE. SO THE STATEMENT THAT "YOU ARE PROBABLY ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH THE "TASTE" OF AMERICAN MALE ASS" WAS MEANT TO BE TAKEN QUITE LITERRALLY. ARE YOU KEEPING UP? LET ME FINISH. POINT BIENG, YOU STARTED TALKING OUT OF YOUR a$$ AGAIN, SO I BI*CH-SLAPPED YOU. IT WAS A STATEMENT, NOT A JOKE. HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA. HIMMM!!!!

I wonder when this will stop being a personal attack on people just because they have opinions that oppose your own. You are not going to influence people by calling them “lame sons of b*****s”. Everyone is more than happy for you to state your opinion, informed or not. But please, form an argument for a point rather than creating arguments about sucking a$$
