Pestilence Frontman Discusses New Album "Hadeon"

Death metal has become one of the music world's most famous sub-genre labels. It sometimes even eclipses the name "heavy metal" itself, like for instance in an episode of The Simpsons where Judas Priest were referred to as death metal, (a chalkboard gag the next week saw Bart Simpson writing "Judas Priest is not death metal" by way of acknowledging the mistake.) Yet death metal itself is a very broad spectrum. It features some very heavy and brutal works from the likes of Cannibal Corpse and Deicide, but can also be one of the best places to find superb musicianship and technical prowess.

The area known as technical death metal has boasted some of the genres best bands and continues to be influential today, particularly in such other sub-genres as djent. Bands that paved the way for this were the likes of Death, Cynic and Atheist from the United States, while Europe proudly pointed to one band in particular from the Netherlands. That band was Pestilence. After breaking up twice, Pestilence are now back and last year, released their first album in five years, "Hadeon," which is another crushing string to their impressive bow. At their show in London this week, I was able to catch up with the band's frontman Patrick Mameli to discuss the album, as well as the legacy of such records as "Consuming Impulse" and "Spheres," the departure of guitarist Patrick Uterwijk and more. You can watch the conversation in full below. More...

The Three Tremors Releases Second Music Video

The Three Tremors, (featuring Tim 'Ripper' Owens, Sean Peck and Harry Conklin,) has posted a new music video online for the song, "Bullets For The Damned." You can check it out below. The song comes from the band's self-titled debut, which is available now through Steel Cartel Records, is the second track from the record to receive the music video treatment, following, "Wrath Of Asgard."

The CGI-heavy clip, which features the Tremors trading vocal licks on a desolate, post-apocalyptic landscape, where they also do battle with giant, scorpion-like alien creatures.

"It was all green screen stuff. I felt like Arnold Schwarzenegger for a second," Owens tells Billboard. "It's kind of a throwback, like the whole CD is -- it comes straight at ya, a lot of stuff going on and really a power punch of everything. That's what this (group) is -- the video's over the top, the music is over the top, everything. That's something that's been gone for a while, so we're trying to bring it back." More...

Destruction Recruits New Guitarist

Today, German thrash-legends Destruction are proud to welcome Damir Eskic as their second guitarist alongside Mike. Damir is a Swiss guitar player with Bosnian decent and works as a guitar teacher, himself being a former pupil of Tommy Vetterli (Coroner). He also plays in a Heavy Metal band called Gomorra and already contributed to 3 solos of Destruction's 2016 album "Under attack".

The band prepared a short video clip, in which they properly introduce their new member. You can check it out below.

Frontman Schmier comments:
"Yes - we finally did it again!

"For many years we’ve been talking about this but we needed the RIGHT guy! Damir Eskic is now that dude! He is a super-skilled player and also a good friend of the band. He will surely make some jaws drop and pay tribute to the history of Destruction as he is also a fan of our music!
To be a trio, was a special thing for us, that we did with pride for many years but also Destruction had a period where we were a four piece with a second guitar. Now it was the RIGHT time to get that option back! We know there are many fans out there that have been waiting a long time for this.

"We have composed and recorded the whole new album with two guitars and of course this will make us an even more intense live act and give us the chance to play songs again that we’ve not been able to play for many years…exciting times ahead! Let's call this a reinvention!

"With Randy Black on the drums and Damir Eskic on the lead guitar, we have the fresh blood in the band that is sometimes needed to reach new goals, it will keep the THRASHMACHINE strong and ready for new adventures!

"See you all on the road soon – the new record is coming on August 8th via Nuclear Blast!"

Damir adds:
"I am of course very happy to be a part of this Thrash Metal family and to join one of the best bands of the genre. To record three guest solos on the
Under Attack' album was already a big deal for me, now some years later, we’ve become close friends and I am really excited to be a part of this! I am looking forward to meeting the fans all over the globe and to thrash the stage with the boys!" More...
