Exumer Posts New Song Online

On April 5th, legendary multinational thrash metallers Exumer will release their fifth full-length, "Hostile Defiance," via Metal Blade Records.

"Hostile Defiance" is exactly what its title suggests. A 42-minute full on attack, the thrash faction hold nothing back as they unleash hell as only they can, yet with more variety and dynamics than ever before. "We wanted to sonically progress, incorporating more melodic elements in the music as well as more rhythmic variety," states vocalist Mem Von Stein. "We are a lot braver trying to create an up to date and relevant sound that can easily stand alone in today's thrash landscape without sounding trite or a throwback, and we're challenging the listener not to get too comfortable with one specific feel, tempo or pace."

For a preview of the album, the new single, "King's End", can be heard below.

Vocalist Mem V. Stein comments: "'King's End' is a perfect example for what we set out to accomplish with this album. Keep the fury, speed and aggression of our previous albums but infuse melody with the vocals and guitars in order to expand the musical scope of our sound. Still no compromises and full on thrash but with more variety and vigor." More...

Michael Schenker Fest Reveals New Album Details

Following on from the release of their successful debut album, Resurrection, Michael Schenker Fest have completed the recordings for their second studio album, which is scheduled to be released on August 23rd this year worldwide through Nuclear Blast.

“Based on the fun that we had recording 'Resurrection,' the success of the album and the surrounding tours we undertook that were just fantastic, I was deeply inspired to make a start on writing new songs for a new Michael Schenker Fest album," says Michael Schenker and explains: "It is even a step up from 'Resurrection' with amazing input from all singers and all musicians - I could not ask for a better result. The songs are blazing, snappy, energetic, melodic and with drummers like Simon Philips and Bodo Shopf we got amazing results. This time we even managed to record three great mid-tempo songs with all singers involved, singing their hearts out.“

The album will be titled Revelation. “The album title and cover concept expresses things that have happened in my past as well as what is still happening at the present time. It’s about passion and purity versus greed and corruption. There is much to say. It’s about time I let people know about some of this…”, comments Michael Schenker. More...

This song tells a heroic tale about the resilience of man and is captured in a beautiful animation by Awik Balaian. The wolf in our hearts is the primal instinct to survive. We did not choose to be born, we did not choose to become, but there is a will to live inside of us. A will to fight for what is ours and to oppose those who seek to oppress us. We will not linger in the dark but gather those who will fight with us and rise to make our voice be heard. Unleash the wolf in your hearts for the Pagan Metal Brotherhood is on the rise!" More...

Death Angel Posts First "Humanicide" Trailer

Bay Area thrash metal legends Death Angel will release their long-awaited 9th full-length album, Humanicide on May 31st via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band has given fans their first look inside the making of the record with a new trailer, in which they discuss the writing process for "Humanicide." You can check it out below.

With their forthcoming album "Humanicide," Death Angel has maintained their throne in the universe of thrash while still managing to remain progressive in their style. They apply a wide variety of different elements to their music, always pushing to add newness to their sound. This time around they’ve included everything from acoustic bits, to guest musicians, to even (for the first time) the notes of a piano. All ten songs flow seamlessly yet each leaves its own distinct impression. The first single and title track "Humanicide" triumphantly represents the entirety of the album, immediately energising the listener. Mark Osegueda remarks: “I wanted to write something that metal fans could really grasp onto. Something dark and intense, that still makes sense. Right now I think it’s so apparent that the earth is in a sickened state.”

“When I wrote the music for our song 'Humanicide' I was shooting for an album opener that would have all the elements of an epic thrash opus. This meant a classic metal style intro leading into a ferocious “Bay Area Thrash Riff-o-Rama” - complete with a crazy middle build up section to ramp up the circle pit until it’s all whipped up into a frenzy by the time the frenetic guitar solo hits, then concluding with a maniacal musical section leading into the outro. All it needed was the lyrics and vocal delivery to match the intensity and Mark went above and beyond the call of duty! Some of his best work in my opinion. One of my favorite DA songs for sure, it feels like the follow up to our song 'Thrown to the Wolves'. Can’t wait to play it live!” – Rob Cavestany. More...

Skindred Posts New Lyric Video Online

Skindred have released a new lyric video for fan-favourite track “Loud And Clear”, taken from their UK Top 40 hit album Big Tings (Napalm Records). The release comes ahead of the band’s upcoming tour, supporting Disturbed, and heralds exciting times for Skindred.

“We are currently gearing up for a very heavy year of extensive touring and are also hoping to work on writing new material in the gaps,” says drummer Arya Goggin, “The track ‘Loud And Clear’ from Big Tings was a very popular choice with our fans, so we have decided to put it out to coincide with our tour with Disturbed.”

“We hit the road with Disturbed in April, with shows throughout Europe and the UK, then we are literally straight into festival season; finally to round off the year we are taking the That’s My Jam Tour to Europe (with Blood Command as our special guest), which finishes in late December. So, in short, it’s going to be a rollercoaster of a year!”

“Loud And Clear” gets a gritty yet dreamy, uber-colourful urban-themed video, with neon-style lyrics on top of mesmeric clips of a spraycan-wielding graffiti painter. This is mixed with the usual energetic live footage of Skindred doing what they do best, killing it live with Newport Helicopters, energy, style and appeal. More...

Skold To Release New Album Next Week

Swedish born multi-instrumentalist Tim Sköld, the creative force behind his namesake industrial metal project, has been one of few lasting Swedish music exports since the 1980s as frontman for one of that country’s earliest and more successful metal bands, Shotgun Messiah. After the suspension of that outfit in the mid-90s, Sköld struck out on his own and released the debut album for his industrial metal project, the self-titled Skold album, in 1996. The album was hailed as a triumph with songs such as “Chaos” and “Hail Mary” landing in major motion pictures as well as mainstream video games. Since then, Sköld has gone on to work in a numerous other major bands, becoming a permanent member of KMFDM and Marilyn Manson as well as playing live with Taime Downe’s The Newlydeds and Nivek Ogre’s Ohgr, all the while composing, performing, and producing for other artist, for example Motionless In White, as well as several Skold albums.

Now, hot on the heels of 2016’s The Undoing, Skold is teaming up with powerhouse indie label Cleopatra Reords to release the much anticipated brand new studio album Never Is Now. 15 all new tracks of driving rhythms, vicious guitar riffs, and scintillating synths to create a thrilling listening experience perfect for fans of industrial and electronic-tinged metal. The album will be available on CD in a digipak and on a special limited edition CLEAR double vinyl package everywhere starting April 5th. More...

Exhumed Begins Recording New Album

Gore metal maniacs, Exhumed, are currently in the studio recording their seventh full-length and follow-up to 2016's Death Revenge. The as-yet-untitled album is being recorded at the band's home-built studio Darker Corners, a first in Exhumed's legendary career.

The album, which marks the debut of new guitarist Sebastian Phillips (Noisem), is being produced by the band and Alejandro Corredor (Brujeria, Nausea) and will be mixed and mastered by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust). The record is expected to see release later this year. Stay tuned for more information in the months to come.

Comments frontman Matt Harvey, "This album has been a challenge in a whole new way; part construction project, part trial-and-error crash-course, and part deathgrinding madness. The deathgrinding part has been going really well, and we're really focusing on bringing out the aggression of these tunes. The goal is to leave no face un-melted." More...

L.A. Guns Posts New Music Video Online

L.A. Guns have premiered the video for the title track of their upcoming new album, The Devil You Know, out tomorrow, March 29th, via Frontiers Music Srl. Watch below, and pre-order The Devil You Know on CD/LP/Digital here. Signed LPs, limited edition red vinyl, merch bundles and more available from the band store. Limited edition yellow vinyl on offer at this location.

Sonically, The Devil You Know covers a lot of ground and incorporates influences from Black Sabbath to Led Zeppelin to Kyuss to The Hellicopters, all while distinctly sounding like L.A. Guns. The band is rejuvenated and inspired after relentless touring and are literally taking no prisoners.

"After the success of The Missing Peace, a lot of people requested that the next record stay on track with the more metal side of the band's music, which is my personal favorite side of the band," says Tracii Guns. He continues, "I drew from my typical influences of NWOBHM [New Wave Of British Heavy Metal], while still not forgetting my earlier influences of the late '60s and early '70s. I wanted to lead with the track "Stay Away" because it’s a familiar L.A. Guns sound, but even a bit more metal. Something to get everyone’s palate wet."

"It's loaded with attitude and most of it bad," says vocalist Phil Lewis of the album's lyrical content. "You want a love song ---- off and listen to Journey. They say write about what you know, and lord knows we've all known some evil bi----s and dudes that have gone out of their way to make life difficult for us. We say unanimously from the whole band ---- you, we're going places you could only dream about. We know what it's like to be put down, poked, ridiculed... but guess what, looks like we get the last laugh. This band has always been fueled by adrenaline and anger and this record is a glimpse inside the carnival of rage that dwells deep inside our collective souls. Not much sunshine and hold tight to your lollipop... this is gonna be a fast, loud, bumpy ride!" More...

Rammstein Reveals New Album Details

German industrial metal/Neue Deutsche Härte legends Rammstein has revealed that they will be releasing their new, self-titled studio album on May 17th through UME/Spinefarm in Europe and Caroline Records in North America. The band has also posted a new music video online for the song, "Deutschland," which can be seen below.

The video clocks in at over nine minutes and shows the band throughout a number of periods in German history, beginning in 16 AD and leading up to the atrocities the Nazi government committed. The video has already received complaints from Jewish groups for the latter depiction, as well as the Israeli government, who have accused the band of exploiting the holocaust for promotional purposes. Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon tweeted: "This Rammstein clip, using the Holocaust for advertisement purposes, is shameful and uncalled for. We join the many voices calling for its immediate removal."

German officials have also expressed concern and criticism over the band and the video, with politician and war memorial manager Karl Freller inviting the band to visit the Dachau concentration camp and stating: "The suffering and inhumanity of the holocaust shouldn't be used for advertising purposes or gimmickry to promote a product, regardless of what it is." Endeavour On The Struggles Of Young Prog Bands

Progressive metal is something of an enigma. While some of the best in the genre have seen some of the most commercial success over the last twenty years such as Dream Theater and Anathema, others have been granted the status of favourites or cult legends like Opeth, Queensryche and Fates Warning. It's a sub genre which can reach areas of the soul other metal styles can't and provides a more uplifting stance than the likes of death or black metal.

But surely it must be very difficult to get such long songs and ambitious musicianship off the ground when most of us in rock and metal clubs are craving a bit of aggression and a chance to go mental? This past Saturday in London, I sat down with Endeavour vocalist Chris Hawkins and guitarist Iain "GT" Davies to discuss facing such an obstacle, as well as their own material and growing popularity. You can watch it in full below. More...
