The pioneers of Sumerian thrashing black metal from Melechesh have revealed the cover art for the band's upcoming studio album, "Enki," which can be seen below. Commented mainman, singer and guitarist Ashmedi:
"For the artwork we collaborated again with John Coulthart, who has done our previous two album covers. The art reflects the dynamics of the album and the world of Melechesh: order and chaos. It amalgamates several spiritual, cultural and mythological concepts from the Near/Middle East and our lyrical aspects. Again it was based in the golden ratio which for the purpose of this album seemed suitable. The pillars featured here are a continuation from the previous album and lead to a path of knowledge. John always manages to capture the essence of Melechesh."
Furthermore, due to unforeseen productional issues, the release of "Enki" had to be pushed to February 27th (EU), March 2nd (UK) and March 10th (US).
The follow-up to 2010's "The Epigenesis" marks the band's sixth full-length album and will feature iconic guests Max Cavalera and Rob Caggiano/ The album was recorded in Greece by Giorgos Bokos, while Jonas Kjellgren took care of the mix and mastering in his Black Lounge Studios in Sweden. The track listing is as follows:
01. Tempest Temper Enlil Enraged
02. The Pendulum Speaks
03. Lost Tribes
04. Multiple Truths

"Almost all of the music and lyrics was again written and produced by Ashmedi. Melechesh spent one month in their rehearsal room in Hinzweiler (Germany) rehearsing the material before entering the recording studio in Athens, Greece. The band wanted a Mediterranean place to capture the essence of the band’s origins.
"Enki features 12 string electric guitars aside from the 6 string played on the entire album, for a heavier and subtly richer harmonic sound. The band also tuned their instruments to the pitch perfect 432 Hz frequency rather than the standardized 440 Hz one for a deeper sonic experience within the human psyche and in accordance to vibrations of the universe. Enki also features esteemed friends of the Melechesh society guest vocalists Max Cavalera and Sakis Tolis as well as guest lead by Rob Caggiano."

Mesopotamian black/thrash metal act Melechesh is currently in Athens, Greece recording a 6th full-length album to be released worldwide via Nuclear Blast on a as-yet undisclosed date.
The band spent one month in a rehearsal room in Germany tweaking all the details and will spend the next six weeks in Athens recording the new album, tentatively entitled "Enki." Commented band leader Ashmedi:
"Again we chose to record in a Mediterranean area to capture the Melechesh essence. We have many good friends here and have toured with some Greek bands over the years and everyone here is being very helpful to this work. In keeping with our tradition all songs are diverse and tell different stories both lyrically and musically, from the black thrash to the ritualistic tribal tunes to the more in your face rocking and neck breaking songs.
"Last couple of years where extremely challenging for me and this rubbed on the album for the better, abstract moods such as post-enlightenment depth, sonic magick, anger and retribution. Metaphorically speaking, it is a Sumerian sonic deluge to cleanse us from drones, parasites and insects interpret that as you see fit." More...
Mesopotamian blackened thrash metal act Melechesh has announced the addition of drummer Sasha "Sin" Horn. Commented mainman Ashmedi:
"After a lengthy search Melechesh are proud to announce the inclusion of new drummer Sasha 'Sin' Horn. Sin as in the Mesopotamian moon god. He will be appearing on the upcoming album which we will follow up with more details. Meanwhile he flew in from the USA to our rehearsal room in Germany to work with the band on new material and meet the label guys and the chemistry was great. His drumming skills will sure bring in an extra kick to the new album."
Since there were rumors and uncertainties of the current second guitarist of Melechesh, the band clarified the situation in the following statement: "After one show it became obvious things wouldn't work out with Sirus, so we mutually agreed to go separate ways. For now the position is not vacant until a great talent crosses our ways. Ashmedi will track guitars and former guitarist and long time friend Moloch might be flying to the studio for recordings but not touring as well. We have two great touring guitarist who are friends of ours and will step in as live session musicians."
Melechesh is currently writing new material for an upcoming sixth album, following "The Epigenesis" (reviewed here).
The Crypt, a label focusing on special vinyl editions, will release Melechesh's first album and first demo, which both have never been on LP before. The label comments on the upcoming "As Jerusalem Burns...Al'Intisar" gatefold DLP:
"The Crypt is proud to announce our cooperation with Sumerian thrashing black metal kings Melechesh!
"For the first time on vinyl, we present the band's debut masterpiece 'As Jerusalem Burns...Al'Intisar' and as an extra it will be coupled with their 1995 'As Jerusalem Burns...' debut demo. After 18 years, the time has come for this masterpiece to finally be on vinyl. More details to come!" More...
With the release of a sixth album scheduled for 2014 via Nuclear Blast, Sumerian black/thrash metal pioneers Melechesh now present an interview with mainman Ashmedi.
The interview, which is featured on Canadian TV show “The Cool Guy Files,” was conducted in 2011 while Melechesh was on tour in North America. You can watch the entire episode with Ashmedi below.
Melechesh is currently busy in search of a new drummer to fill in the vacant position for the successor "The Epigenesis" (2010).
The Northern Darkness Festival, which would have featured At The Gates, Graveworm, Napalm Death, and many more, has now been cancelled. The organizers of the fest issued the following statement:
"Today we must deliver the disappointing news that The Northern Darkness Festival has been cancelled. The aim of the festival was to bring the best in unsigned and international death and black metal artists from around the world to a new event in the UK more akin to the European festival line-ups.
"Unfortunately despite a lot of interest from bands wanting to play from all over the world we have not seen the same level of interest from the general public and to date ticket sales have been extremely disappointing, and it is with this in mind we have to make to unfortunate decision not to continue with the event.
"In short events like this can not take place if people do not want to come and support them, with less than 2 months to go until the event date less than 15% of available tickets have been sold and the majority of those were from outside the local area and even other countries.
"We wanted to give the North East a place on the metal festival scene and had hoped to grow the festival over the coming years into a major international event but without fans wanting to come and support an event of this size we are left with no option but to cancel.
"We would like to thank those that showed support for the event and to all the bands billed as well as those who applied to take part in the unsigned band competition and those who did purchase a ticket in advance. The UK does have some stellar alternative festivals with Bloodstock and Damnation festival but it appears the UK was not quite ready for The Northern Darkness.
"Tickets purchased directly will be refunded automatically over the next week, if you purchased your ticket from the venue you will be able to get a refund from them. Please allow 7 days for your refund to reach you before contacting us. We anticipate all refunds will be completed within 7 days and you will be contacted on the email address you gave when purchasing your ticket. If you have not received you refund within 7 days please email us: email@example.com."
Mesopotamian black/thrash pioneers Melechesh are hard at work on pre-productions for a new album, the successor to "The Epigenesis" (reviewed here).
Furthermore, the band has parted ways with long time guitarist and close friend Moloch and drummer Xul. Moloch had officially been out of Melechesh for 8 months prior as his role in the band was no longer active due to focusing on his academic career.
While it is still to be announced who will be filling the drumming position, Moloch will be replaced by new guitarist Sirius. Ashmedi and bass player/backing vocalist Scorpiros will debut the new line up on the stage late fall early winter 2013 during the band's North American tour.
Commented Ashmedi: "I talked with Moloch and asked him maybe it is better he is no longer a part of Melechesh because we needed to have an active guitar player, he fully agreed and was thinking the exact same thing. He is one of my best friends but this has to do with Melechesh and music - nothing else. In fact we will be hanging out soon in Jerusalem and catching up. He is always welcome to come jam or do a guest appearance - like I said, this man is one of the closest people to me personally. We are literally family, I wish the best of luck for his new and interesting Journey. More...
In just a little over a week, Norwegian black ‘n’ roll legion Vreid will take the band's sonic mayhem to North America alongside headliners Melechesh.
Set to commence June 16th in Los Angeles, California, the roadside assault includes over two weeks of live devastation. Additional support will come from Lightning Swords Of Death and Reign Of Lies. Comments Vreid bassist Hváll of the upcoming journey:
"We are thrilled to return to the Wild West; it will be a blast! We have had some great shows over there before, and can’t wait to return. We have our best album freshly released, and are ready to unleash these new songs plus old warrior themes for you. Unfortunately our rock solid drummer Steingrim has to sit out this tour due to work-related issues. He will surely be missed, but we have been aware of this for a while and have the perfect replacement for him. Tomas Myklebust will join us for this tour. Myklebust is a maestro drummer who did the UK tour with us last year when we toured with Paradise Lost. He did a splendid job then, and has worked his ass off rehearsing the new material. Hope to see you on the road."

Moloch, guitar player of Melechesh, recently took part in a cooking show on iFood.TV. You can check out the video over at this location.
Commented Moloch: "You end up doing many weird things when you play in a metal band, and being part of a cooking show is definitively one of them. In any case, I decided to go for it because I enjoy cooking, and the show was being filmed in Richmond, which is pretty close to where I live.
"The dish I prepared (msakhan) is a typical near-eastern dish, but my recipe is a user-friendly version. Is it metal? I don't know. Does it taste good? Fuck yes!"
Melechesh will also be headed out for a North American tour this coming October with Septicflesh and Ex Deo. Details are available right here.

Masters of mesopotamian black / thrash metal, Melechesh, have finally made their debut album "As Jerusalem Burns," available for digital download. The long out of print landmark album can be purchased over at iTunes here. Commented guitarist/singer and mainman Ashmedi:
"Finally available for legal downloading. Our Debut album from 1996, 'As Jerusalem Burns...Al Intisar' means a lot to me, it was recorded with next to nothing budget in the city of Jerusalem and all the odds were against us, at the time no one paid attention to black metal being made in the holy city, with time we changed that.
"We recorded it live to tape so this means we all played at the same time without any breaks in the songs so no room for corrections or to remake one particular part. If we felt there was one little mistake we would re-record the whole song all over again, I think this gave it a sense of authentism. So for now it is available as a digital format and that’s it. Hopefully we will also make it availed on vinyl for the first time.
"Furthermore one day we perhaps might license it on CD for re-release. The music is raw as we intended it to be with hints of middle eastern music. This is Melechesh more than 15 years ago though half of our sophomore album 'Djinn' was written then.“
