Melechesh Posts Fifth Track-By-Track Break Down

Guitarist/vocalist Ashmedi of Melechesh has posted the fifth and final installment of the track-by-track breakdown for the new album "Epigenesis," which can be found below. Melechesh has also posted the song "Grand Gathas Of Baal Sin" from the new album on the band's MySpace page.

10. A Greater Chain of Being “This is an instrumental with traditional near eastern instruments. This music represents sufi music or ancient eastern classical music. This is not very common in mainstream society and in the middle east it is considered underground! It is profound and spiritual and meant for you to confront yourself while meditating or tripping. We have done such compositions in the past because we feel close to them. It is another dimension of MELECHESH. Many of our audiences asked us to compose more songs like this because they do not have access to such music. It was a treat to oblige, even though we would have done it in either case. Turn the lights off, computer off, phone off and go on a trip."

11. The Epigenesis “Some have called it one of our most accomplished songs performed with 12 string electric guitars. Some have called it a journey into the world of MELECHESH. Some called it MELECHESH in psychedelic mode. I call it another song, albeit self indulgent. We did not want to make a demo for this track, but rather develop it during several writing sessions often lasting into the morning hours. We wanted the listener to feel as if they were right there with us in the rehearsal room. The guitar leads were improvised and it gave an impromptu feel to the song. Leads were recorded late at night without an agenda. The hallways of the studio doubled as reverb outlets . Yes the reverbs in this song were ‘handmade’ by putting a microphone in the hallway to pick up the distant and echo sound of our guitars. Many things happened while recording this song that made it all work like a perfectly built puzzle. You can hear elaborate middle eastern melodies, heavy metal, thrash metal and psychedelic rock all in the same track. The longest track we have ever written. One verse in our lyrics refers to all our album titles. A very interesting concept for us. This is the testimony of The Epigenesis.”

Melechesh Comments On More Tracks From New Album

Guitarist/vocalist Ashmedi of Melechesh has posted a track-by-track breakdown of songs 6 - 9 on the band's new album "Epigenesis." The breakdown can be found below.

6. When Halos of Candles Collide (Instrumental) “A perfectly placed instrumental gives the album a new a dimension. This composition reminds me of indian ragas. The piece starts with an acoustic indian sitar, a very mystical sounding instrument. It felt natural to play and was much needed to make this piece complete. The middle part is performed with a 12 string electric guitar which sounds very vintage. Moloch and I mused on the idea to have indian sounding scales, he then recorded a demo for this piece which sounded monumental. We decided to use it. I added other cosmetic 12 string guitars and the electric guitar/sitar hybrid. The piece gradually decends into the sitar again. Perfect for meditation and reflection. And a sure needed breather prior to the following track!”

7. Defeating the Giants “This song starts with a raw old school guitar riff and a sitar melody. The sitar gives the impression of a rational transition after the previous intrumental. The first two riffs of the song were written circa 1995 -1996 back in Jerusalem. We never thought of using them, not until now at least. When I heard some old reherasal tapes from that era I had the main two riffs accompnaied by drums and I was impressed. The middle part and bridges are different very dynamic, with intense yet logical drum rolls then a neck breaking beat with almost bending decending notes. The song returns to its intensity and what I particularly like is the way it ends. Rather than a crash hit there is an ice bell hit. It is very difinitive and represents the end of a banishing ritual. This ice bell has a lot of history with us. It is featured on all ABSU albums but the last and on all MELECHESH albums aside from the first. The silk lanes of Hena, Labrynth map, tell us the tale of ego and loss!”

Melechesh Posts More Track-By-Track Breakdowns

Guitarist/vocalist Ashmedi of Mesopotamian blackened thrash act Melechesh has issued the second of several track by track explanations of songs from the band's new album "Epigenesis." Ashmedi's break down of tracks 3-6 is as follows:

3. Sacred Geometry “The meaning of Sacred Geometry refers to the idea that the cosmos although chaotic has a sense of order and defining geometry i.e. crystalline elements. Even the symbol of chaos is Geometric! Shapes and patterns make existence of the real and surreal possible! Many divine structures or spiritual temples have been built on this principle! Even Pythagoras elaborated on this matter. He discovered that stopping half way through the length of an oscillating string produced an octave relative to the string's fundamental, basically a higher version of the same note, while a ratio of 2:3 produces a perfect fifth and 3:4 produces a perfect fourth. Pythagoreans believed that these harmonic ratios gave music powers of healing which could ‘harmonize’ an out-of-balance body.

Dew-Scented Comments On Tour Dates With Nile

German thrash metal band Dew-Scented will be touring Europe with Nile in January 2011. Singer Leif Jensen comments on the upcoming tour, "We can now finally and proudly announce a full European tour for DEW-SCENTED in January / February of 2011 as support act for Nile! The run dubbed 'Those Whom The Gods Detest Tour 2011 Part 2' will last for about 4 weeks, covering central European countries as well as some Eastern territories (some of which we in fact never ever before visited!) and also UK/Ireland at last again. The tour's line-up will also feature Melechesh, Zonaria and Darkrise next to DEW-SCENTED and headliners Nile (who we last succesfully toured with in 2003), making it a very colourful and interesting package for all followers of extreme Metal."

"But before that, please check us out on an own 10-dates tour at the end of this October month in Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany as well as supporting Heaven Shall Burn, As I Lay Dying and Suicide Silence in Germany throughout November."

"We look forward to seeing you all out there somewhere soon to showcase the 'Invocation' album some more. Expect a massive Thrash Metal attack coming your way soon!" More...

Melechesh Posts New Album Break Down

Guitarist/vocalist Ashmedi of Mesopotamian blackened thrash act Melechesh has issued the first of several track by track explanations of songs from the band's forthcoming album. "The Epigenesis" will be released on October 1st in Europe and on October 26th in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. Ashmedi commented on the first two songs:

"1. Ghouls Of Nineveh: This song is a statement on how one riff can be effective and devastating! It is very powerful and live it is neck breaking. The song itself revolved around a singular riff, very non cliché to extreme metal. Some people expected a conformist start for the album, i.e. a faster song and we rejected the idea. This song sets the mood for a multi faceted album. This song is almost like a hymn. ‘Ghouls of Nineveh’ revolves around Assyrian/Mesopotamian deities, who are the Annunaki.

"Some of the brass bells you hear are a result of a pestle and mortar I found in my childhood house in Jerusalem when I went for a visit. The brass pestle and mortar was in my house as far as I can recall, yet this time when I was there in 2009, I experimented with it and the sound was bright. Better than any bell I know of. So I confiscated it and used it on the album as a percussive instrument! The final guitar lead was improvised on the spot and the piano cosmetic lead was split between Reuben the engineer and myself. This Fazioli Grand piano cost as much as a house in some parts of the USA ($120,000), so I was slightly careful with it! More...

Melechesh Announces New Album Details

Melechesh has set "The Epigenesis" as the title of the band's fifth album, due later in the year through Nuclear Blast Records. The 11 song release was recorded in the Babajim Studios in Istanbul, Turkey and was mixed by Reuben de Lautour and mastered by Pieter Snapper.

Front man Ashmedi stated: "As I have mentioned earlier, we wanted to defy the norm and record eastwards rather than remain in Europe. This was mainly due to the inspiring surrounding we found in Istanbul as well as the high quality of the studio and gracious staff. This city is a mesh of east and west and had a very long tradition of rock music. The Epigenesis is the result of two months of grueling work and very long hours.

"We took a risk and it paid off; the outcome is phenomenal! The production is very dynamic and big! The album is definitely Melechesh and as always unlike its predecessors and we as a band are exactly where we want to be at this point in time. There are several moods on the album, from very aggressive raw songs with minimal riffs to ritualistic near eastern metal opuses, one of which is a 12-minute song that combines Mid-Eastern music, psychedelic rock and metal. On one third of the album we have used 12-string electric guitars for the main rhythm riffing. We have included two instrumental compositions with completely different moods as well. More...

Conspiracy Reveals New Album Details Online

Dutch eclectic extreme metal band CONSPIRACY returns with a brand new third full-length album entitled "Irremediable." Previously helmed solely by Carpathian Wolf (Lupus Karpatius in Latin) for the previous two full-length albums, the band currently also consists of German guitarist / composer / orchestrator Aryan Blaze to join the ranks of CONSPIRACY.

Carpathian Wolf (a.k.a Al' Hazred, former member of Sumerian black metallers Melechesh) left Melechesh in 2008 to fully concentrate and focus on CONSPIRACY. CONSPIRACY's musical direction sees a more logical step towards the fulfillment and ideology of Carpathian Wolf himself.

CONSPIRACY head-honcho Carpathian Wolf comments, "This time CONSPIRACY doesn't just spit rage and hatred but presents the symphony of sinister entertainment for the chosen elite black metal consumer. The material on 'Irremediable' ranges from Blackened Heavy Metal with melodic and harmonious guitar solos to Black Metal with unorthodox elements, which will pleasantly surprise even the most spoilt listeners." Melechesh To Enter The Studio In April

Mesopotamian metal band Melechesh will enter the studio on April 10th to record their 5th album for a period of 4-5 weeks. The band has chosen to record the album in Istanbul in an attempt to capture the inspiring surroundings. Babajim Studios which opened their doors this week is run by some of the elite sound Engineers in Turkey. The currently untitled album is set to be released in the summer of 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Mainman Melechesh Ashmedi comments, "We have been looking for a place to record that can offer us an inspiring surrounding. We also decided to stay true to our spirits, to break the Mold (again) and also to defy the norm, hence we will record in Istanbul; you see the norm is to record westwards it is rather customary, we want to head eastwards. So, Istanbul seemed the best place since This is the city where the east and west meet, mesh, clash, blend, collide etc. and has been as such for milleniums. The music is definitely MELECHESH and as always, this album has its own characteristic."

The band is now locked again in the rehearsing studio with Guitarist Moloch arriving to Amsterdam next week from Virginia, USA. The song writing is 90% complete.
