Detrimentum Set Release Date For Debut

UK extreme metallers DETRIMENTUM announce the worldwide release of their long awaited debut full length album, "Embracing This Deformity", on February 4, 2008 via Grindethic Records.

Honing DETRIMENTUM's trademark style of blending brutal death metal with elements of black metal and doom, the album is equally at home expressing ferocious aggression with razor sharp blastbeats and guttural vocals, along with moments of dark introspection with soaring melodies and tortured screams.

The album features the stunning artwork from former vocalist Eddie Ruffles and will contain a multimedia section with live video and full set of lyrics which stand head and shoulders above the usual death metal fare, taking an uneasy journey across bleak misanthropic landscapes. The cover artwork can be viewed at this location.

Here is the "Embracing This Deformity" track listing:

01. Scalestomeasurethemisfortuneofman
02. Disillusion Ethos (Of Torment and My Bleeding Shadow)
03. Blood Simple
04. Dark Eye [MP3 ]
05. The Flesh Elemental
06. Born To Bleed (Losing Myself To Silence)
07. Negativity Flux
08. Ills To Which The Flesh Is Heir
09. The Contusions Of Remorse
10. Twilight's Slow Attrition

This album marks the beginning of collaboration between Grindethic Records and distribution company Code7 with their partners at Plastic Head, which will see this release available through high street chains in the UK, mainstream online retailers and pay-to-download networks.

DETRIMENTUM will celebrate the release of their new album with a launch party headline show at the Bar Monsta in London, UK, on 26 January 2008 where copies of the album will be available to purchase for the first time. Other bands scheduled to appear are BLOODWORK, SCYTHIAN and DYSCARNATE. A flyer for this show can be viewed here.

The song comes off the band's sophomore Vagrant release, "Fortress", which will be in stores January 29, 2008. "Bloodmeat", the opening track on "Fortress", is also available today on iTunes (in Canada only).

Fans can check out a teaser clip of behind-the-scenes footage from the "Bloodmeat" video shoot here. "Bloodmeat" can already be heard in rotation on the Sirius Satellite Radio channel Hard Attack.

PROTEST's MySpace page also reveals the stunning new artwork for "Fortress". The cover image is a riff on the Irish goddess of the forest, Flidais. The band has previously stated that "Fortress" does not revolve around a single concept, like "Kezia", their 2006 debut, but is instead more closely akin to "goddess worship in the tradition of Robert Graves." In Battle Announce Working Title For New Album

Sundsvall, Sweden-based death metallers IN BATTLE have set "Flames & Death" as the working title of their fifth album. According to the band, five songs have already been completed for the effort, which will be recorded next year at Epidemic Productions in Sundsvall. The new material will be "furious fast and wicked heavy," says the group. "The songs will be, as always, variated and bombastic with hints of black, thrash and death metal. This album will kick all religions' ass and we will fuck 'em up totally with this album!! We'll bring you pure hate!"

IN BATTLE recently recruited session drummer Tony Westermark, from the Sundsvall technical death metal band SOREPTION.

The group's fourth album, "Kingdom of Fear", was released on September 3 via Nocturnal Art Productions/Candlelight Records. The follow-up to 2004's "Welcome to the Battlefield" was recorded at Epidemic studios in Sundsvall and was mixed by UNLEASHED's Fredrik Folkare at Chrome studios in Stockholm. The CD contains "11 songs of raw trashy death metal," according to a press release. Two video clips for the album have been filmed: "Kingdom of Fear" and "The Dead Shall See".

Remembering Chuck Schuldiner

December 13, 2007 marks the 6th anniversary of Chuck’s passing. EmpyWords.org, the Death and Control Denied fan site, continues to dig up interviews with Chuck and other band members. They have posted an excerpt of an interview that Chris Reifert did for Metal Rules earlier this year. At that time it was exactly 20 years ago that Chuck & Chris would conquer the world with this “two man Death machine” on SBG.

They also have three interviews from the Moroccan Zero Tolerance Webzine: an interview with Tim Aymar, an interview with Sean Reinert, and an interview with Bobby Koelble. And finally they've added a recent interview with Kelly Conlon (Death’s bassist on Symbolic) also from the Zero Tolerance Webzine.

36 Crazyfists Cancel European Tour

Due to a delay in the recording process 36 Crazyfists have been forced to push back the release of their upcoming Ferret Music debut, "The Tide and Its Takers." The album which was originally slated for a March 4th release is now slated to drop on April 29th. The album will still be produced by the band’s guitarist Steve Holt and mixed by Andy Sneap.

Because of the setbacks in recording the band are also, regrettably, going to have to cancel their UK and European tour plans. The band was scheduled to play with Bullet For My Valentine overseas and is disappointed to say that they will not be partaking in the tour.

At The Throne Of Judgement Breaks Up

Ohio metal band At The Throne Of Judgement has called it quits. Formed two years ago, the band released an album with Rise Records earlier this year. Here's a statement from the group:

"We have come to a point in our musical journey where we have been forced to make a decision. Several unforeseen events have unfolded that have brought us to our current situation. The five of us began touring as 3 students fresh out of high school and two students withdrawing from college. Each member graduating from high school had a significant scholarship to a college that they were turning down to tour. As you may or may not know, you don't make any money touring when you're a brand new thrash/death metal band in the scene. In fact, you lose money (not trying to discourage anyone). We never viewed making money as a priority, but there comes a time where you must realize that it is just not financially possible to continue.

"We are all completely content with the decisions that we have made over the past year and do not regret a thing. One of our goals when we started this band was to make music we enjoy and overall have a good time. As time moved on, we all began to realize that it was inevitable the band would not last forever. We have learned from our experiences and ultimately got everything we wanted out of the band. Therefore, we came to the conclusion that it was time to move on.

"Our music has taken us from coast to coast and everywhere in between. We have seen so many amazing things, met so many incredible people, and have so many great stories to tell. As cliche as it sounds, the friendships we have made with each other and with other bands are priceless and we hope to meet up with all the bands we we have toured with again. We love anyone who has ever come out to a show, bought a shirt, given us a place to stay, cooked breakfast for us, bought our CD, shaken our hand after a show, or shouted that we suck! We could never do it without you guys.

"We will be playing two more shows. One on December 20th at The Mad Hatter with Sea of Treachery, and a final farewell show that is yet to be scheduled. Eric will be performing at both.

"This may be the end of ATTOJ but it is only the beginning of our journey as musicians. We are constantly writing new music, some metal, some not. So definitely keep your eyes and ears open for new projects to emerge from ATTOJ members. We love all of our fans, all of our bros, and all of the bands that don't make money and drive around the country in vans to keep metal alive! First Post, No Care Ever."

Slayer To Work On New Material In The New Year

Right after the New Year, Slayer plans to start working on new material for their eleventh studio album, intended for a 2008 release, and will tour the world to support it. "I'm excited to see where the new music will go, how it's going to sound, what the total writing and recording experience will be like. I'm sure it will be like the one for 'Christ Illusion' - great!"

Slayer recently received their third Grammy nomination. The Slayer track, "The Final Six," from the band's 2007 Limited Edition "Christ Illusion," was nominated in the category of "Best Metal Performance."

"The Final Six," written by Slayer's vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman and produced by Josh Abraham, is a chilling look at an hypothesized end of the world. The song made its debut last July as the Single of the Week on MySpace where it has since accumulated some 750,000 plays, an astounding number for a song that received no commercial airplay.

"When I first got the word, I thought someone was playing a joke," mused Araya. "But obviously, we've made an impression on the industry. The people at the upper levels have taken notice of what we've done, and that's awesome."

Slayer's two previous Grammy nominations were for 2002's "Disciple" from the album "God Hates Us All," and last year's "Eyes of the Insane," for which they took home the Grammy Award.

More Dates For Throwdown Tour Confirmed

THROWDOWN will headline The Scum Of The Earth Tour, which is set to kick off in February and will cross the United States (and some Canadian cities as well) through early April. It is the band's first headlining tour in support of their new album, "Venom & Tears," which was released in August.

Joining Throwdown on the bill for the Scum Of The Earth Tour, which is presented by Black Rose District Clothing, will be Swedish metal madmen Soilwork, whose own "Sworn to a Great Divide" was recently released to rave reviews from fans and critics. THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD are also onboard, touring in support of a new album of their own, "Malice." War Of Ages rounds out what is sure to be a devastating lineup.

"We haven't headlined our own tour in a long time, which is exciting," commented Throwdown frontman Dave Peters. "The most rewarding thing about playing our songs live is interacting and communicating with the audience. And now that our new album has been out for a few months, the songs have had a chance to really sink in, and we're looking forward to seeing people's reactions to songs both new and old."

"We're also very stoked to be touring with Soilwork who are coming all the way over from Sweden," Peters added. "And with THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD and War Of Ages onboard, it's a very strong and diverse bill."

"Venom & Tears" is Throwdown's fastest-selling album, garnering favorable comparisons to landmark records by legendary metal bands while offering newfound metallic depth and emotional complexity. Peters recently interviewed Sepultura/ Soulfly founder Max Cavalera for Revolver's "Rebel Meets Rebel" feature.

Throwdown have spent the last four years on the road as part of Vans Warped Tour, Ozzfest, Sounds of the Underground and as support for Machine Head, Soulfly, Lamb Of God, In Flames and As I Lay Dying, pausing briefly to write and record "Venom & Tears" and 2005's "Vendetta" album.

Soilwork is currently part of a massive US tour with Killswitch Engage and Lamb Of God. The band's new single is featured as a downloadable track for Guitar Hero III. THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD will soon shoot another video with director Dave Brodsky, having taken part in a sold-out tour with All That Remains and As I Lay Dying. War Of Ages is busy writing the followup to Pride of the Wicked, which will be produced by Tim Lambesis.

The Scum Of The Earth Tour will be preceded by Throwdown dates in smaller cities on the West Coast with My Children My Bride and Arsonists Get All The Girls in support. Look for confirmed dates for that very soon.

"We're going to be stepping up our production on this tour as well, both sonically and visually," Peters added. "And with a bill as energized as this one, it's going to make for a great show all around."

Here are the confirmed dates for the SCUM OF THE EARTH TOUR featuring Throwdown, Soilwork, Through the Eyes of the Dead and War Of Ages: More...

Glen Benton Issue Studio Update For Deicide

As the temperature drops everywhere else in the country, things are only getting hotter in Florida as the recording of DEICIDE's 2008 release, TILL DEATH DO US PART grows ever closer to completion.

Glen Benton entered the doors of Morrisound studios this week to record vocals for the album. Speaking on the matter of how the recording session has been going, Benton summed it up with 3 simple words. "It's all good."

"The highs are crisp and demonic and the lows are nice and gargly. Just like always," says the DEICIDE frontman. However, everything hasn't been "just like always" as far as this session goes. Gross Misconduct On Vancouver Amon Amarth Show

Vancouver-based death/thrash band GROSS MISCONDUCT has been added to the AMON AMARTH, SONIC SYNDICATE show slated for Dec. 14 in Vancouver, B.C.

GROSS MISCONDUCT will be slotted first for Friday’s all-ages show, which will be held at the Croatian Cultural Centre (3250 Commercial Drive).

According to Live Nation Canada, doors for the show are slated for 6 p.m. and the show is scheduled to begin at 6:30.

The recent show announcement comes on the heels of an extremely eventful last six months for the band since releasing its independent debut, "The Process of Indoctrination," in May 2007.

Since releasing their debut, GROSS MISCONDUCT has briefly toured the Canadian West Coast with GALY RECORDS artists MARTYR and NEURAXIS and played shows with the likes of INFERNAL MAJESTY and THINE EYES BLEED, on top of playing the Vancouver stop of the VANS WARPED TOUR in July.

"The Process of Indoctrination" has garnered an overwhelmingly positive amount of album reviews, and the band is now shopping its debut to labels and distributors.

You can check out some of the band's material on their MySpace page.
