Lamb Of God Talks About Not Being Political

Thrashpit caught up with Lamb Of God frontman Randy Blythe, where he was asked about how their 2006 release 'Sacrament' seems much more personally confrontational than the group's prior records. "We had two highly political records we wrote with 'As the Palaces Burn' and 'Ashes of the Wake'," Blythe explained. "With 'Palaces' we'd been having a hard time over in the Middle East and with the Bush Administration of course. With this one, Mark and I were like 'well, we might want to step back from politics on this one.' I'm a political science major and I'm a punk rock kid, and punk rock and politics generally go hand-in-hand, so we were worried after 'Palaces' we'd get branded as a political band. After 'Palaces' we wanted to write something not as political but the climates at the time were still pissing us off enough that we again wrote it politically. We generally write about issues that anger, sadden, or depress us. Again, when 'Sacrament' came around, we wanted to move away from the political thing. We aren't a political party and we conscientiously wanted to try something a little more personal and a little more accessible. We wanted fans to be able to take a song and give it their own meaning, maybe put their own personal experiences to it. That's just how our music goes though - we just don't want to write the same album again and again!" Read more.

Icepick's Danny Diablo To Tour With Necro

Icepick's Danny Diablo has been confirmed for Necro's upcoming North American headlining tour. The tour, which will also feature Psycho Realm and The R.O.C, will kick off in across Canada on January 8th, 2008 and hit select markets in the US.

"I am really happy that I will be touring with Necro, Pyscho Realm and Riviera Regime. I consider these hardcore rap groups to be family and it is an honor to bless the stage with them," says Diablo. "I'm gonna bring it N.Y.H.C. style to these shows. I can't wait to play the Canadian shows cause I have been getting mad love from my Canadian fans over the years. So get ready for Danny Diablo and his Thugcoremusic to bring down the house."

Danny Diablo is currently supporting his Suburban Noize debut, "Thugcore 4 Life." The album is a combination of New York style hardcore and hip-hop mixed together to create something truly unique. The album features guest appearances by some of music's biggest names Daddy X(Kottonmouth Kings), the Sub Hoodz Stress and Harley Havok, DJ Lethal(House of Pain), Slain, Danny Boy and La Coka Nostra's Big Left and Ceekay. Danny Diablo's video for the track "Mechanix" featuring Necro and the Transplants' Skinhead Rob can be viewed online on YouTube.

Danny Diablo rose through the ranks of the New York hardcore sceneduring the mid-90s as the frontman of the legendary Skarhead. Aftertouring the world several times over, appearing on the Warped Tour andinfluencing a slew of new age hardcore bands, Diablo joined forceswith Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta in Icepick. The duo's side-project, which took hardcore back to its roots, released their debut album "Violent Epiphany" in 2006 via Jasta's own Stillborn Records. Currently Diablo is working with producer Tim Armstrong (Rancid) recording his upcoming album, International Hardcore Superstar, for release in 2008.

"It's the same thing," Diablo says commenting on what brought this hardcore veteran to hip-hop. "I'm from the same neighborhood. I'm from Jackson Heights, Queens. Growing up, I was in an area of Queens that always had rappers walking around like Kool G Rap (and) Eric B. I grew up in rap. I listened to rap before I listened to metal. Then I got to metal and then I got to hardcore. But it's the same thing, hardcore and rap. In the '80s, they were talking about the same thing strugglesand stuff like that."

"We have recently returned from our Death In Hell Japanese tour. This was our first time playing Japan. We have been trying to play Japan for many years with no luck, so it was a great honour to get this opportunity. All the shows were great, the people were all really metal and respectful. We got the opportunity to play with our long time friends in DEFILED and BUTCHER ABC along with some other killer bands like COFFINS, INTESTINE BAALISM, SABBAT, SSORE, and many more. Also on the tour was my other band FUNERUS along with the Japanese band ANATOMIA. ANATOMIA were great touring mates, they are a kick-ass, old-school-style death metal band and heavy as fuck. They were a perfect opener for the tour! It was also great for FUNERUS; we got a great response every night." More...

In a recent interview with Romania's Metalhead TV, Kisser stated about SEPULTURA's current touring/recording plans, "Our intention, really, is to play as much as we can to prepare this band to start writing new material. So we're gonna start writing a new album at the end of the year, hopefully to release next year, sometime in the second [half of 2008]."

Back in March, SEPULTURA filmed the second video from their "Dante XXI" album, for the song "Ostia". The clip was shot at a studio in São Paulo prior to the band's departure for their European tour. During the following week, the video crew and the main actor shot the outdoor scenes in downtown São Paulo. Dark Fortress To Release New Album In February

German black metal outfit DARK FORTRESS will release its fifth full-length album, "Eidolon", via Century Media Records on the following dates:

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Italy: February 22
UK, France, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Rest Of Europe: February 25
Spain, Portugal: February 26
Finland, Sweden, Hungary: February 29

According to a press release, "Eidolon" is the band's first effort with new vocalist Morean, who is also responsible for the intricate lyrical concept.

In its nine chapters the album describes the initiation, dehumanization and unearthly rebirth of a transcending soul by mirror magic and astral projection.

An "Eidolon" is a Greek concept of an astral double of a living being or a "mirror." The concept describes a magic mirror ritual as while a person is in a trance, the surface of the mirror is used as a gate to enter a new dimension. Three songs each form the album's three chapters:

"Eidolon" track listing (50:17):

The first three songs describe the calling of beings from the other dimension, seen from three different angles:

01. The Silver Gate (6:50)
02. Cohorror (5:37)
03. Baphomet (6:24) *

The second part is the initiation, when the astral soul is dehumanized and torn away from his earthly ties.

04. The Unflesh (5:08)
05. Analepsy (6:01)
06. Edge of Night (3:57)

The third part is the rebirth „on the other side of the mirror“.

07. No Longer Human (5:36)
08. Catacrusis (4:34)
09. Antiversum (7:22)

* Featuring guest vocals by Tom Gabriel Fischer (CELTIC FROST)

DARK FORTRESS will embark on a European tour with HELHEIM and VULTURE INDUSTRIES in 2008.

Sebastian Bach Is Finally "Canadian"

The following report is courtesy of ChartAttack.com:

Canadian metalheads have always laid claim to SEBASTIAN BACH, but the Canadian government has never accepted the singer as one of our own until now. For the first time in his 20-year career, Bach is Cancon-approved. Music from his new Angel Down album officially qualifies as Canadian content, according to the Canadian Radio-television And Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

The former SKID ROW frontman is ecstatic about the development, even if he's a wee bit confused on Canadian bureaucracy, personifying a regulation ("Cancon") and not the CRTC as the official body recognizing his album as Canadian content.

"For 20 years I've been waiting for this," he says soon after hearing the news. "I'm from Peterborough and for Cancon to finally make me a Canadian artist is very heavy to me and it's incredible."

According to the CRTC website, a musical selection is judged on its Canadian content in four ways: music, artist, production and lyrics. If two of those areas are wholly Canadian, then the music can qualify as Cancon.

Bach has been trying to figure out these regulations for quite a while, sometimes with amusing results.

"It did frustrate me for years," he admits. "And I can remember one day, in the last five years, I was in Canada and I was Googling what it takes to become a Cancon artist.

"And I found this thing, I think it was on Cbc.com, The History Of Cancon. So I'm watching these video clips and the very last clip is an interview with the head of Cancon [Bach is likely referring to someone from the CRTC] in Ottawa, sitting at her desk and on the wall behind her is a painting by my dad [visual artist David Bierk]. Oh my God! One of my dad's paintings is behind her and she's explaining what is Cancon. I almost fell down when I realized that the big painting on the wall is done by Sebastian Bach's father.

"I was like, 'You people need to figure this out. There's no way the stain on my daddy's pants can't be Canadian when his painting's on the wall of the Cancon offices.'"

Aerosmith Fights Maui Fans

The following report is courtesy of Kitv.com:

AEROSMITH said Hawaii fans are not entitled to any damages due to a canceled concert scheduled for Maui. Fans are suing to get back money they spent on travel for a concert that did not happen. The lawsuit should be dismissed, Aerosmith lawyers said. They pointed out that other performers, like Pavarotti, have never been required to compensate for fan's wasted travel expenses.

The attorneys said the concert was canceled because there was no way to get the band's equipment to Maui in time after a concert in Chicago was rescheduled two days before Maui.

The group said it was always honest with its fans and should not be punished for alleged misrepresentation.

Under the state's consumer law, plaintiffs could be eligible for triple their losses in damages and up to $5,000 if over the age of 62.
The case will be argued on Maui next month.

While the band did not go forward with a concert for Maui, it did perform at a concert for a private gathering of Toyota dealers at the University of Hawaii Manoa campus that weekend.

Amon Amarth Conquers Vancouver

It was a cold and dreary winter night on December 14th, 2007 in rain-soaked Vancouver. Viking ships disguised as tour buses pulled up in front of the Croatian Cultural Centre, carrying a crew of Norsemen prepared to pillage the venue and to unleash Swedish death metal upon the crowd of angst-ridden teenagers and drunken metalheads. After a pat-down by the anal retentive security guards at the CCC, we made our way into the main hall that already smelled of a mixture of various kinds of smoke and kids who hadn’t yet realized that deodorant use comes with puberty.
