Linkin Park Say No Nu-Metal Sound On Next Album

"We're going for the music that inspired us, rather than the nü-metal type of sound," frontman Chester Bennington said of the band's third studio album, due next year. "We're ripping that out. It's completely gone."

In its place is a mix of punk and classic-rock elements with vintage hip-hop beats, the singer said.

"We've always been known for mixing a lot of different genres of music and not pigeonholing ourselves in one particular sound, but by doing so, we've kind of pigeonholed ourselves into our sound," Bennington said backstage at Saturday's Inland Invasion. "It sounds strange, but there's a common thread that people are going to expect, and we're trying to pull that out of the new music."

Linkin Park's reinvention is being guided by Rick Rubin, who is co-producing with Mike Shinoda.

"We're straying away from a lot of the predictable sounds we've had in the past, but there's no question in your mind when you hear it that it's Linkin Park," Bennington said. "We've always said we write the music we write so that we can spread our wings as far as we want and try new things and go anywhere. I think we're really going to prove that with this new record."

Linkin Park wrote more than 100 songs, which they have since narrowed down to the cream of the crop. Bennington refused to elaborate on how many tracks will be recorded, but he shot down the idea of a double album.

HELMET mainman Page Hamilton is currently producing an album for a band from North Carolina called CLASSIC CASE. "After I finish, I'm playing some more guitar on the movie 'Across the Universe' and getting ready to do some HELMET shows in a month or so," Hamilton says in a posting on the band's web site. "The first round of shows start October 17th somewhere near New York. The Warcon folks and people involved with the movie 'Saw III' are putting the tour together and planning another HELMET video for the song 'Monochrome'."

In other HELMET-related news, guitarist Chris Traynor has announced that he has left the band after nearly a decade of working with Hamilton. A few days later, drummer Mike Jost also exited the group in order to attend to his duties as a new father. It is not presently clear if bassist Jeremy Chatelain will continue playing with HELMET. Hamilton is reportedly already auditioning new members.

Supernova Change Name To Include "Rock Star"

In the wake of a recent court order that barred it from using the name Supernova, the band that was recently staffed with a vocalist via the CBS-TV talent/reality show "Rock Star: Supernova" has a new moniker.

Under a settlement the band and the TV show producers reached with a Southern California group that was already using the Supernova name, the new band--featuring Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted, Gilby Clarke and new vocalist Lukas Rossi--will now be known as Rock Star Supernova.

The band has already updated its official website to reflect the new name.

In other news, the first two tracks from Rock Star Supernova--"It's All Love" and "Be Yourself & 5 Other Cliches"--have been recorded, and are streaming at the band's official site and its MySpace page. The group's debut album, which is being recorded with producer Butch Walker, is due in stores Nov. 21.

The band will make its live debut with a two-night stand in Las Vegas that opens on New Year's Eve, and will be followed by a 28-city tour that launches in mid-January.

Tom Morello Arrested For Civil Disobedience

Tom Morello was among approximately 400 protesters arrested early Thursday evening during a march to raise awareness for immigrant hotel workers' rights.

The Audioslave guitarist, who performed under his Nightwatchman alias at a rally before the march, was charged with unlawful assembly for refusing to move from Century Boulevard, the main entry road to Los Angeles International Airport.

"In these political dark ages, it's important for us to stand up for one another," Morello told MTV News before the march. "These hotel workers by the airport make 20 percent less wages than hotel workers around the rest of Los Angeles. We're here to express our solidarity with them, to help them unionize and to help them close the gap between their sub-poverty wages and the millions and millions of dollars the people who own these hotels make."

Morello spent the evening in lockup and was released Friday morning (September 29). "Bail was high," he told MTV News — each arrestee had to pay $5,000. But, he added, "spirits were higher. We had a rousing civil rights-era-like hootenanny on 'the inside.' "

Thursday's march, which Morello and organizers called "the largest act of civil disobedience in the history of the Los Angeles," was a well-orchestrated affair from both sides. In fact, Morello and the other arrestees actually planned to be arrested and even gave the Los Angeles Police Department their driver's license numbers days before the event to expedite processing.

About 2,000 protesters actually participated in the march, with an average age of 17, according to one of the organizers. Those willing to be arrested, which included several community and religious leaders and at least 100 students bused in from surrounding colleges, wore yellow signs to distinguish themselves from the others.

While they sat in the street, protesters mainly chanted, "Sí, se puede" (Spanish for "Yes, we can"). The wide majority of immigrant hotel workers are Latino, and the march — while not nearly as large in scale — invoked memories of other immigrants-rights protests earlier this year. While the protesters chanted, dozens of policemen on motorcycles and horses eventually began making arrests.

Dimmu Borgir: New Album Will Be Worth The Wait

DIMMU BORGIR guitarist Silenoz has issued the following update on the songwriting sessions for the group's new album:

"After spending the last months in pre-production for our new, as-yet-untitled album, we're quite excited to say the least and look very much forward to finally start the recording sessions once again with Fredrik Nordstrom at Fredman Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden in October. It will be a story-based album with lyrics written accordingly and music wise it'll be...let's see....hmmm... very DIMMU BORGIR! We can't wait to have this monster finished and share it with our fans as they have been extremely patient with us, but we promise - it'll be well worth all the wait!

"We'll be back with more news as things progress in the studio!"

DIMMU BORGIR's upcoming CD will feature a guest appearance by MAYHEM's Hellhammer on drums.

"Sorgens Kammer - Del II" is one of the new tracks included on the updated, re-recorded version of DIMMU BORGIR's 1996 album, "Stormblast", which was released in Europe in November via Nuclear Blast Records (the North American release followed in February). The album was completely re-recorded with producer Peter T?gtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) and MAYHEM's Hellhammer on drums.
