Strapping Young Lad Is On Extended Hiatus

STRAPPING YOUNG LAD drummer Gene Hoglan (ex-DARK ANGEL, DEATH) has issued the following update:

"I know it's been a million years since I wrote one of these, but, I just didn't have a goddamned thing to say. But, now I do.

"This past year has been a strange one, but no stranger than the last nine. All the typical band b.s., all the weird road stuff, all the feelings of impending doom, have seemed to kinda just wash away over the last bit of time.

"STRAPPING is on this extended hiatus, and by 'extended' I mean we'll get back together if the time is right. It could be a few months or a year, or it could be never. I sure as fuck don't know. It ain't up to me. So don't ask.

"I'd like to publicly wish my bro Devin [Townsend, STRAPPING mainman] and his lovely wife Tracy congratulations on the birth of their firstborn. He's an adorable-lookin' little boy, and I tell ya, the pic Dev sent me of him holding his niblet for the first time is pretty priceless. Dev is looking at his son like he's a BOMB. The look on Dev's face! Man, oh man...

Orcus Defiles The Whisky A Go Go Oct 28th

The opener was Hollywood's HEXEN and they erupted with an old school thrash metal intensity that the Los Angeles scene has been lacking amid all the other glam revival acts that are crowding The Sunset Strip again with their shitty music. The band consists of Andre Hartoonian on bass/vocals, Vahe Yaymayan on lead/rhythm guitars, Ronny Dorian on lead/rhythm guitars and Greg Maksudyan working over the drums with a monsterous double bass drum attack. The band simply rampaged through their offerings such as 'The Serpent' and 'Bedlam Walls' with a literal Megadeth workman-like speed. They had the pits absolutely going off larger than I've seen any band be able to do at this venue this year. It was a very cool sight to see and they are definitely a must see for any fan of this sub-genre and I'm real excited to see what's to come from them.

The moment came for Glendale's mighty ORCUS to take the stage for this Halloween Holocaust. It was roughly 9:35PM when they did make their appearance dressed in dark clothing and wearing black and white Kabuki makeup that was designed as an homage to the black metal legend's IMMORTAL and DIMMU BORGIR. And with the opening strains from keyboardist, Andrew De Lange, they began their set with the cut 'Embers Of Their Lost Domain' from their debut EP 'Birth' and it was a perfect choice. The crowd around me seemed to come to life as if a new black metal God stood before them in lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist John Paul Fernandes, who looked to be more in his element than I've seen him before as the pit in front of him at center stage started to swirl with an immediate raging fervor. The drumming from Chris Moore was absolutely on mark and crushing as always but seemed to have an extra charge of energy behind each smashing kill-stroke to his drumkit. The band next dropped a big surprise on all with two new killer tracks that will be on their next album. They were 'Deus est Mortus' and 'The Immolation' and let me just say that the crowd seemed to really enjoy all of the fresh dynamics to be heard in both along with the purely ominous-sounding lead guitar and bass work from Hayg Terzian and Karo Torosyan. The pits seemed to be as strong here and the vibe the band was giving off with its unbridled energy really seemed to be what kept everyone so involved. The band closed their set with 'Sorgens Kammer II', which is a cover from Dimmu Borgir's new album, the remake of Stormblast. And what a song to bring it all to a close. I couldn't help but notice that the young metalers standing around me were checking to see if their faces had actually been ripped off. I even heard one of the survivors of this wicked progressive black metal onslaught they'd just witnessed say, "Man, these dudes are ready to play Ozzfest!"

36 Crazyfists has been added to the three Canadian shows on Killswitch Engage's upcoming headlining tour. Additional support on the dates will come from Bury Your Dead and 2 Cents. The tour dates are as follows:

Ozzy Putting Finishing Touches On New Solo Album

Ozzy Osbourne told Greta Van Susteren of FOX News that he he hopes to complete his new solo album in 10 days or so. Apparently he has been working nonstop on it and is anxious to finish it, according to Van Susteren.

Osbourne was previously said to be working on two brand new studio CDs. The first album is set for release in February 2007. Most of the music was recorded before Ozzfest in May with Mike Bordin (drums), Rob "Blasko" Nicholson (bass) and Zakk Wylde (guitar). Wylde recently announced that he had to cancel three tour dates in October (Oct. 14 - House Of Blues, Myrtle Beach, SC; Oct. 16 - The Masquerade, Atlanta, GA; Oct. 18 - Rams Head Live, Baltimore, MD) with his band BLACK LABEL SOCIETY to finish up obligations in the studio in connection with the new album. The second effort will be the soundtrack to Ozzy's musical about controversial Russian politician Grigory Rasputin. The album will be released first, and then the play will debut on Broadway or as a touring show according to Osbourne.

In a recent interview, Ozzy said, "We wrote a song called 'Rasputin' (for the 1995 'Ozzmosis' album), but then it never got used, you know, and then every now and again I'd try to find this tape of songs. We wrote a bunch of songs, and I put this tape on and thought, 'You know what? That would be a great musical.' It kind of grew on its own. It's the traditional 'Fiddler on the Roof'-type of music, plus the kind of BEATLES-y kind of influence. There's this wonderful song that goes, 'How dark it is before the dawn, the day begins, a child is born.' It's beautiful. I'm really happy about it. I hope the rest of the world is. I spent 10 years of my f—king life in this thing."

Tool Plans Spring American Tour

Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL will return for another North American tour in March and April, according to drummer Danny Carey, who also told Launch that the band's stage show on its next trek will be different from what audiences saw this summer and fall: "The show in the springtime will definitely be different than the shows that went around this fall in America. Projection ideas will be added and changed, and props and whatnot will all evolve too, I'm sure. You know, it's just the way our band always works. We work on that kind of thing all the time."

No dates or cities have been revealed yet for the band's next American jaunt.

TOOL continues to tour in support of its fourth studio album, "10,000 Days", which has sold more than 1.2 million copies since its release last May. The CD's latest single is "The Pot".

The group begins a European trip on Saturday (November 4) in Spain.

TOOL will headline the annual Big Day Out festival tour of Australia and New Zealand, which begins on January 19. The group will be joined by THE KILLERS, MUSE, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE and JET on the bill, which will hit at least seven cities in both

Atreyu Issues Statement Regarding FFTL Incident

Atreyu has issued a follow-up statement explaining in further detail the circumstances behind the recent removal of support act From First To Last from the group's headlining tour.

In a posting on its MySpace page, From First To Last stated about the trek, "We did everything possible to stay on this tour. Sonny [Moore, vocals] would not have been able to sing due to a tear in his vocal cord, but would have been onstage playing guitar while Craig, of Chiodos, would handle singing duties for the remainder of the tour. Our plan to enable us to play the rest of the tour was disregarded and as our crew was setting up for the show in Worcester, MA we were informed that we were being kicked off the tour. Understand that it was not our choice to leave this tour... we were forced to leave."

Atreyu's latest statement reads as follows:

"Atreyu has been portrayed in a terrible light during the course of this, and we're tired of it. We felt the need to make one final post including the honest truth about the issue.

"Due to Sonny's vocal problems forcing him to leave the tour, From First To Last would become an incomplete band. In the business of touring, from personal experience, and with the help of management (we have the same management as From First To Last, mind you), we came to the industry conclusion: incomplete band, incomplete money... We offered From First To Last (minus the lead singer) a MORE than appropriate amount of money, whereas most other bands would have just asked them to leave altogether. The amount was MUCH MORE than we ever got on a tour as a support band (when we had sold many more records than From First To Last has now and when the headliners were much larger than our band is now). From First To Last responded to this by saying they were going to bring Sonny out as a guitarist and have Craig from Chiodos sing their set so they could get paid as they had with Sonny singing... For one, if you cared about your singer at all he should be at home, resting, not playing guitar just so your band can make more money. Two, we didn't want Craig to sing two sets a night and hurt his voice, forcing both bands to have to drop off (regardless of whether he said he's done it before or not)... They, unfortunately, declined this offer. More...

Ozzy To Headline Second Stage Of Ozzfest 2007?

There are unconfirmed reports that Ozzy is to headline the second stage on next year's US Ozzfest tour. No official announcement is expected for some time though.

During the 2006 Ozzfest tour, however, Ozzy intially planned to play (headline) the second stage for only two shows, but then expanded that to the majority of his appearances to second stage headlining.
