No More Burden

Vancouver's Burden have announced their breakup. Together since May of 1997, the band left us with several releases on Spawner and Dead Serious Records and made the trip across the Atlantic twice — once in 2001, and again in the summer of 2003. Here's the official word on the breakup from vocalist Jason Kolins:

"Hello everyone. Sorry to break the bad news, but on Wednesday, November 12, '03 Burden broke up. We accomplice a lot more in the six and a half years we were a band, than we had ever dreamed of, and we'd like to thank everyone who ever supported us, bought a shirt, record or CD, or just sang along. Also to everyone who did a show, gave us a place to stay, an interview, or included Burden on their compilation, fanzine or just helped us out, especially Ben Gottschalk and Andreas Werner of Dead Serious Recordings, you have our eternal gratitude. The fond memories I have of meeting so many awesome kids, and awesome shows touring through Canada, The USA, and especially Europe, will last a lifetime, and are ones I will forever look back on with pride. Thank you all for making it possible! Take care, and I hope to see you all again in the future. Keep in touch."

Anthrax Redux As 'Metallum Maximus Aeternus'

ANTHRAX have set "Metallum Maximus Aeternus" as the title for their upcoming collection of Belladonna/Turbin-era songs sung by current vocalist John Bush, according to the group's official German web site, www.anthraxband.de.

The album will be recorded early next year and the exact track listing for the effort will be voted on by the group's fans. A late spring release through Nuclear Blast is expected.

I'm less interested in hearing Bush sing these songs than in the prospect of getting altogether remade songs with modern production capabilities.

Motley Crue To Reunite For Tour, Album In 2004

Three years after going on hiatus, hard rock hell-raisers Mötley Crüe plan to reunite for a tour and possible album in 2004. And, for the first time in five years, all four original members will be on board for the ride.

"Three years ago, we decided to take time off to recharge," bassist Nikki Sixx said. "We put the movie deal in place and planned on a tour when all the original bandmembers were ready to work together again. Everything is pretty much right on time."

Sixx said the 2004 world tour will coincide with the release of the big-screen version of "The Dirt," based on the band's over-the-top 2001 autobiography of the same name. The tour will feature singer Vince Neil, Sixx, guitarist Mick Mars and drummer Tommy Lee.

The reunion is surprising given the notoriously bad blood between Lee and Neil — Sixx said the two still have not spoken to each other about the dates.

"We plan on recording new music as well," Sixx said. "I'd like to see us go heavier. When the four of us are together, something magical happens. That's something I've never felt before. All the drama and bullsh-- aside ... I love playing in Mötley Crüe."

Ex-Pantera Drummer: 'Phil Was Afraid Of Success'

Ex-Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul recently spoke to Revolver magazine about the circumstances that led to the group's demise two years after the release of their critically acclaimed "Reinventing The Steel" CD.

"With the last couple of Pantera records, we kept getting more and more narrow-minded because of Phil," Vinnie said. "He didn't want to experiment or take any chances, and it was like being in a tube that was getting to be so small you couldn't even breathe. Personally, I think the dude was afraid of success. He wanted to be such an underground icon that the bigger Pantera got, the more he didn't want to be involved. More...
