Metallica's Hetfield: 'St. Anger' Sales 'A Bummer'

METALLICA frontman James Hetfield has told Reuters that the U.S. sales of the group's latest album, which fell off the pop charts earlier this month, are a "bummer."

But the band are not giving up on its U.S. fans, and plan to launch a six-month tour of indoor arenas on March 2, they announced backstage at the American Music Awards on Sunday.

"St. Anger" has sold about 1.5 million copies in the United States since it debuted at No. 1 in June, according to Nielsen SoundScan (the record has been certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Assocationa of America).

"It's a bummer," Hetfield said. "In Europe it's doing really good, and some other places ... It is what it is. We can't change that. We do our best and that's all we can do." More...

DragonForce Recording New Album With New Members

London based extreme power metallers DragonForce have started work on the follow up to their debut album 'Valley Of The Damned', released earlier this year. The majority of the recording is taking place at Thin Ice Studios, Virginia Water, Surrey, England with producer Karl Groom, while all the guitars are being recorded at Herman Li's own private studio in West London.

The band have now been joined by new bassist Adrian Lambert, and drummer David Mackintosh (also with Bal-Sagoth). The new, as yet untitled album will be released on the Noise Records label on 22/03/2004.

Iron Savior Recording New Album

Recording of the follow-up album to Iron Savior's 'Condition Red' has begun. All drum takes have already been recorded in the famous Karo studios. The working title of the album is 'Metalizer'.

Evanescence Postpones US Tour

Billboard reports Evanescence has postponed its upcoming U.S. tour dates with Wind-Up Records labelmates Seether and Finger Eleven. The band will resume roadwork with three shows in Canada beginning December 12th in Montreal. Those will be followed by three weeks of dates in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. A spokesperson says a run of U.S. dates may follow in the spring.

Andrew W.K.'s Guitarist Leaves The Band

Andrew W.K.'s guitarist Jimmy Coup (a.k.a. James Mecherle), formerly of Minnesota's Coup De Grace, has reportedly left the band over "musical" differences. Coup, who is said to be planning a solo project, is being temporarily replaced on the road by W.K.'s guitar tech Ken. A more permanent replacement is expected to be announced soon.
