Necare Sign To Firebox Records
Virginia-based doom/death metallers NECARE have inked a deal with Finland's Firebox Records. The group's debut CD, "Ruin", is scheduled for release in the next couple of months.
According to an official press release, "Ruin" "touches on themes of spiritual apostasy and the abandonment of faith in the face of mortality. Curious listeners can be assured of NECARE's dedication to creating emotionally suffocating doom/death metal — at times crushing and slow, often regal, never lacking bleakness or sorrow, equally hateful and serene, and ever mindful of the past."

Opeth Play Short Set In Calgary
Sweden's OPETH reportedly played a five-song set in Calgary, Alberta Wednesday night (January 21), with a drum technician filling in behind the kit for Martin Lopez, who is said to be still at home in Sweden recovering from a recent bout of panic attacks. OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt reportedly repeatedly apologized for the abbreviated performance and said that their next show in the area "would be the heaviest show ever." OPETH's next show is scheduled to take place Friday, January 23 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, British Columbia.
