Mayhem Members Arrested In Holland

Members of the legendary Norwegian black metal band Mayhem and their road crew were arrested in the Netherlands early this morning after the entire contents of their hotel room in Tilburg had been destroyed.

The group had given a performance on Sunday in a cafe in Tilburg and had booked a night at Hotel Central. Monday morning an employee of the hotel found a big mess. Plants were thrown on the street, mirrors, a sink were broken and strips in the bathroom were pulled off and demolished. The beds and television were destroyed and walls were covered in spots.

The hotel estimates the damage at least 5000 euro. The men, aged 21 to 45 years, are from Netherlands, Norway, Finland and France. The suspects remain tied to a compensation of the damage dealt.

Father Befouled Drummer Commits Suicide

Guitarist Justin Stubbs of Father Befouled has issued the following statement about drummer Antichristus taking his own life:

"They say only Death is real, but when you are faced with it, it is always hard to comprehend. Last night I was informed that our drummer, Antichristus, had taken his own life. It is hard to put into words what this means, but I am shocked. AC (we are not revealing his real name - his wishes) was enigmatic and mysterious to all those who knew him, but at the same time he was an amazing friend and one of the most dedicated individuals I, and the rest of the band had ever known.

"His final recorded output with Father Befouled was to be the upcoming 'Rotting Godless Thrones' 7" for Nuclear War Now! Productions. Unfortunately all we have are rough drum rehearsals of the songs, and I am not sure if we can use any of them for the release. I will have to see what can be made usable and make the decision.

"His drumming will also be heard on our 'Profane Grace of the Trinity' split 7" with Cemetery Urn on Relapse Records, due out in January. We recorded this track over a year ago, and it was actually his first efforts for the band. AC was also the drummer for our brothers Prosanctus Inferi. Luckily they recorded their LP for Hell's Headbangers back in August. Not sure of the release, but it will certainly be out soonish. IT will be his finest effort in memorium. More...

Animosity Breaks Up

San Francisco, California's Animosity has broken up. Formed in 2000, the band has released albums with Tribunal Records and Black Market Activities. Frontman Leo Miller has provided Lambgoat with the following statement:

"You have never seen us rest this long. For those of you wondering about Animosity, you are correct to have assumed that we disbanded. It has been nearly a year since all five of us were in a room (or the same state) together. In this time, we have written zero songs and played zero shows. In short, nothing happened which I mean to say plainly and clearly. We are all still alive and friends, but following our last tour we just did nothing band related. Many of us grew up in this band, and for me personally, Animosity was somehow prioritized over everything including my very own life. This band formed our communities, relationships, experiences and the lens through which we view the world. Eight years later, I look back to being 14 years old playing Animosity shows in garages and backyards and I can honestly say that our musical and experiential goals have been exceeded in ways that once seemed impossible to me. If you haven't gotten enough of Animosity, please rest assured that we have.

"This is not to say, that everyone is gone from music. In the time since our last show, Navene finished his spectacular debut solo album called Fleshrot – dementia/dyslexia. Navene wrote played and recorded all the music himself and features beastly vocals from Jonny Davy. Check out the project here and stay posted for album release info. Also, Navene has teamed up with Tosin Abasi and is drumming in their new band Animals As Leaders. Chase also has a new band called Son of Arelius from which you can expect a full-length album out soon. New music from Evan and Frank can be anticipated in various different forms. As for me, I moved out east to study the environment.

"To Animosity fans worldwide, thank you for doing this with us, it was an awesomely epic journey. Be well!"

Decapitated To Return w/ New Lineup, World Tour

Wacek “Vogg” Kieltyka, guitarist & founding member of the Polish death metal band DECAPITATED, has issued the following statement:

"It’s time to come back! After a two-year break, DECAPITATED is coming back with new members. The official new line-up for DECAPITATED will be announced at the end of December.

“As you all know, the decision to continue the band was really, really hard for me, but everything I do now is to keep DECAPITATED alive. [Vocalist] Covan’s situation has not improved much and he is still in bed and unable to function on his own. He still fights to recover as we speak and we are all still 100% behind him and hope for the best. It has been the hardest thing for me to move on without [brother & drummer] Vitek by my side, but he would have wanted me to continue with the band.

“Finally, I have found some great musicians who can continue the work of Vitek and Covan. At the beginning of April, DECAPITATED will start to play our first reunion shows. We will visit the biggest cities in Australia and play some of the biggest summer festivals in Europe. Don’t worry, we won’t forget about the U.K.! After this, the band will concentrate on the making of a new album! I would like to thank all the people who have supported us all this time."

Maurizio Iacono of the artist management firm Hard Impact Music adds:

"I feel very privileged to have been given the management duties of guiding this great band’s future. DECAPITATED was a band on the verge of greatness until tragedy hit them and the band’s world stopped suddenly. Today, we have a man on a quest to bring the glory back that was taken from them prematurely. Vogg, the band’s last remaining founding member, has had the gut-wrenching task of forming a new line-up for DECAPITATED. You can bet that the mission has been accomplished and in honor of the fallen, their legacies will be given the justice they deserve. Our job at Hard Impact is to make sure that DECAPITATED are guided the right way back to the top."

Gerardo Martínez, Nuclear Blast USA’s Label Manager comments:

“I don’t think there’s anyone happier to know that the legacy of DECAPITATED will continue and the fact that Vogg has overcome the biggest obstacle of his life. We all at Nuclear Blast are extremely excited about the news and know that 2010 and beyond will bring a new chapter for DECAPITATED in the shape of live shows and the imminent new album. The masters of modern technical death metal are back!”

DECAPITATED’s Australian tour dates and Metalfest Open Air festival appearances are as follows: More...

Horns Of Anguish Calls It Quits

Front man Filip Robertsson of Horns of Anguish has issued the following announcement about the band calling it a day:

"Hello everyone.

"I am very sorry to say that Horns Of Anguish broke up yesterday. There are plenty of reasons behind this, the main being that we want the band to head in different directions. Not musically, but business-wise. It's become more and more of a one-man-show with only one of us taking care of business, promotion, t-shirt sales, bookings and stuff in general. I always intended to take this band as far as possible and the last couple of years I've spent all my spare-time and money trying to accomplish this. However, I lost a lot of spirit now that it seems I'm the only one who wanted this.

"It has come to the point where we've both lost our enthusiasm completely. It's even gone so far that we can't stand the thought of having to do more gigs, since it wouldn't be honest. And one thing is for sure, HoA has always been about being honest and true to ourselves and our listeners. All booked and planned shows will be cancelled and we will not do any more recordings. As I said, I'm very sorry and deeply disappointed, but this is what has to happen. There are no hard feelings between us band members, we just want different things.

"I will continue responding to interview requests, questions and mail in general, just write me here or at contact [a] hornsofanguish [dot] com. Sorry to everyone who is disappointed with this, Kampas and to the bands that we were supposed to play with during this fall/winter. And a HUGE thanks to everyone who ever supported us, helped us or just enjoyed our music. Special thanks to Kampas for releasing 'Barriers' and to Markus and Andy who made the recording possible. Evile's Michael Alexander Passes Away On Tour

Sadly, just a few days into their European tour with Amon Amarth, Evile bassist Mike Alexander was suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital, but tragically passed away in Lulea, Sweden on October 5th from a suspected blood clot. Mike was just 32 years old.

Evile members Matt Drake, Ol Drake and Ben Carter have released the following statement:

"This is so hard to find the words to express fully how we feel. We can't believe or accept what's happened. One minute we're talking to our buddy, Mike, the next minute we can never speak to him again.

"There's so many things rushing through our heads that we want to say, do and feel. We half expect him to come round the corner and call us 'dickheads'. We can't get our heads around it.

"It upsets us so much that he was away from his family when this happened, although knowing Mike, we're at least glad he was on tour doing what he loves.

"We're lost for words. We all miss him so much already. He was such a headstrong, genuinely nice guy who loved music and his family. We've got so many brilliant memories with him.

"Our hearts go out to his daughter, family and friends at this tragic, difficult time.

"Mike is much loved and is sorely missed. Rest in peace, brother."

Nothingface Disbands Once Again

Last week, on Thursday and Friday, August 13-14, a series of posts were made by Nothingface members on their MySpace blog before being removed. Tom Maxwell apparently fired the first shot (thanks Blabbermouth for Tom's message, as it was nowhere to be found anymore):

"In the past couple weeks, I've decided that I cannot move forward or continue to work with NOTHINGFACE anymore. This has nothing to do with my NF bandmates Bill Gaal or Chris Houck, but directly with band vocalist Matt Holt. It's in my belief/opinion that Matt no longer has the passion, drive or artistic capabilities to continue in a musical direction. His lack of work ethic and desire to be part of the writing process or to track vocals for the music that has been written has pushed me to make the decision to not be part of NF any longer. It's a shame and I sincerely apologize to all the fans that have stood by us waiting for new music from the original lineup. I don't want to point fingers or lay blame but in fairness to myself, Bill and Chris we tried very hard with the best intentions to bring you all killer new music. Unfortunately, and with regret, I do not think that it's going to happen.

"I just want to say thank you and express my gratitude to all the NOTHINGFACE fans that have supported us over the years. Hailz to you all!!!!"

Bill Gaal responded with this:

"Well, we gave it our best shot, but Nothingface is done. I think Tom said it all in his posting, so there's not much more I'm going to say right now. We're all at different points in our lives, and have all approached music with different levels of ambition and desire over the years. Sometimes those desires match up, but and at this point it just isn't working. This has always been a band with very strong personalities, and we've been able to work through our differences in the past, but those days are over.

"I came back into this band last year with the intention of writing a great record with the original lineup, and I'm sorry that it will not be happening. I apologize to all of the fans out there who stuck by us through this process and who were excited to hear a new record. I was excited to!

"Although I do not think there will ever be a reunion between the 4 of us ever again, there may be projects that some of us collaborate on in the future.

"Thanks again to all of the Nothingface fans all around the world, your support has been unwavering over the years and I've always appreciated that."

Chris Houck made a forum post on Friday in response to the discussions sparked by those short-lived MySpace blogs, which seems to reinforce that the band is done. More...

Les Paul Passes Away

Famous electric guitar pioneer Les Paul (Lester William Polsfuss) passed away today at the age of 94. Les Paul reportedly died in White Plains, New York from complications related to pneumonia. Born in Wisconsin in 1915, Paul was involved with music and recording his entire life, and performed on dozens of albums and singles. He made his first solid body guitar design in the late 1930's dubbed "The Log," because it was made out of a normal length of wood. Paul was also known for being involved in the invention of multitrack recording and tape delay.

In 2005, a month shy of his 90th birthday, Les Paul was one of 14 people inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The electric guitar brought Paul international renown as a musician, won him five Grammys, put him on television for eight years with his wife, Mary Ford, and made Gibson Guitar Corp.'s signature Les Paul Standard a guitar of choice for garage bands and virtuosos on five continents.

"In my wildest dreams, I never thought I would see so many people using them," Paul said in a telephone interview prior to his induction. "I owe it to the rock-and-roll players, especially the Jeff Becks, the Paul McCartneys and Jimi Hendrix. All of them were playing a Les Paul guitar."

"[Gibson] laughed at me for 10 years," Paul said. "They called me 'the guy with the broomstick with the pickups on it.' "

More information on Les Paul can be found at his official website.
