Horns Of Anguish Calls It Quits
Front man Filip Robertsson of Horns of Anguish has issued the following announcement about the band calling it a day:
"Hello everyone.
"I am very sorry to say that Horns Of Anguish broke up yesterday. There are plenty of reasons behind this, the main being that we want the band to head in different directions. Not musically, but business-wise. It's become more and more of a one-man-show with only one of us taking care of business, promotion, t-shirt sales, bookings and stuff in general. I always intended to take this band as far as possible and the last couple of years I've spent all my spare-time and money trying to accomplish this. However, I lost a lot of spirit now that it seems I'm the only one who wanted this.
"It has come to the point where we've both lost our enthusiasm completely. It's even gone so far that we can't stand the thought of having to do more gigs, since it wouldn't be honest. And one thing is for sure, HoA has always been about being honest and true to ourselves and our listeners. All booked and planned shows will be cancelled and we will not do any more recordings. As I said, I'm very sorry and deeply disappointed, but this is what has to happen. There are no hard feelings between us band members, we just want different things.
"I will continue responding to interview requests, questions and mail in general, just write me here or at contact [a] hornsofanguish [dot] com. Sorry to everyone who is disappointed with this, Kampas and to the bands that we were supposed to play with during this fall/winter. And a HUGE thanks to everyone who ever supported us, helped us or just enjoyed our music. Special thanks to Kampas for releasing 'Barriers' and to Markus and Andy who made the recording possible. Evile's Michael Alexander Passes Away On Tour
Sadly, just a few days into their European tour with Amon Amarth, Evile bassist Mike Alexander was suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital, but tragically passed away in Lulea, Sweden on October 5th from a suspected blood clot. Mike was just 32 years old.
Evile members Matt Drake, Ol Drake and Ben Carter have released the following statement:
"This is so hard to find the words to express fully how we feel. We can't believe or accept what's happened. One minute we're talking to our buddy, Mike, the next minute we can never speak to him again.
"There's so many things rushing through our heads that we want to say, do and feel. We half expect him to come round the corner and call us 'dickheads'. We can't get our heads around it.
"It upsets us so much that he was away from his family when this happened, although knowing Mike, we're at least glad he was on tour doing what he loves.
"We're lost for words. We all miss him so much already. He was such a headstrong, genuinely nice guy who loved music and his family. We've got so many brilliant memories with him.
"Our hearts go out to his daughter, family and friends at this tragic, difficult time.
"Mike is much loved and is sorely missed. Rest in peace, brother."
Original Candiria Guitarist Passes Away
In the wake of their latest release, "Toying With the Insanities," current members of Candiria have learned the sad news that original Candiria guitarist, Chris Puma, passed away last week, on September 20th. The band has issued the following statement:
“Chris Puma died on September 20th 2009. The cause is not known to us, as his family did not speak of it. He leaves behind two children, 3 year old Aislinn A'marie and a 4 month old Aidan Todd. Chris was a great friend to the founding members of the band, and a respected musician among his friends and peers. He was a kind and gentle person and he will be missed.”
Puma was one of the founding members of the band, playing guitar in Candiria from 1992 to 1997, while helping to create the unique sound that Candiria is known for today. He can be heard on such Candiria records as Deep in the Mental (1995) and Surrealistic Madness (1995).

Five Finger Death Punch has issued the following statement about their guitarist Zoltan Bathory going missing:
"We have not been able to locate Zoltan from 5FDP since Friday night’s show in Las Vegas. Nothingface Disbands Once Again
Last week, on Thursday and Friday, August 13-14, a series of posts were made by Nothingface members on their MySpace blog before being removed. Tom Maxwell apparently fired the first shot (thanks Blabbermouth for Tom's message, as it was nowhere to be found anymore):
"In the past couple weeks, I've decided that I cannot move forward or continue to work with NOTHINGFACE anymore. This has nothing to do with my NF bandmates Bill Gaal or Chris Houck, but directly with band vocalist Matt Holt. It's in my belief/opinion that Matt no longer has the passion, drive or artistic capabilities to continue in a musical direction. His lack of work ethic and desire to be part of the writing process or to track vocals for the music that has been written has pushed me to make the decision to not be part of NF any longer. It's a shame and I sincerely apologize to all the fans that have stood by us waiting for new music from the original lineup. I don't want to point fingers or lay blame but in fairness to myself, Bill and Chris we tried very hard with the best intentions to bring you all killer new music. Unfortunately, and with regret, I do not think that it's going to happen.
"I just want to say thank you and express my gratitude to all the NOTHINGFACE fans that have supported us over the years. Hailz to you all!!!!"
Bill Gaal responded with this:
"Well, we gave it our best shot, but Nothingface is done. I think Tom said it all in his posting, so there's not much more I'm going to say right now. We're all at different points in our lives, and have all approached music with different levels of ambition and desire over the years. Sometimes those desires match up, but and at this point it just isn't working. This has always been a band with very strong personalities, and we've been able to work through our differences in the past, but those days are over.
"I came back into this band last year with the intention of writing a great record with the original lineup, and I'm sorry that it will not be happening. I apologize to all of the fans out there who stuck by us through this process and who were excited to hear a new record. I was excited to!
"Although I do not think there will ever be a reunion between the 4 of us ever again, there may be projects that some of us collaborate on in the future.
"Thanks again to all of the Nothingface fans all around the world, your support has been unwavering over the years and I've always appreciated that."
Chris Houck made a forum post on Friday in response to the discussions sparked by those short-lived MySpace blogs, which seems to reinforce that the band is done. More...

Blitzkrieg would like to pass on their condolences to Ian's family at this moment in time. Ian's funeral will be in Leicester on August 19th."
Les Paul Passes Away
Famous electric guitar pioneer Les Paul (Lester William Polsfuss) passed away today at the age of 94. Les Paul reportedly died in White Plains, New York from complications related to pneumonia. Born in Wisconsin in 1915, Paul was involved with music and recording his entire life, and performed on dozens of albums and singles. He made his first solid body guitar design in the late 1930's dubbed "The Log," because it was made out of a normal length of wood. Paul was also known for being involved in the invention of multitrack recording and tape delay.
In 2005, a month shy of his 90th birthday, Les Paul was one of 14 people inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The electric guitar brought Paul international renown as a musician, won him five Grammys, put him on television for eight years with his wife, Mary Ford, and made Gibson Guitar Corp.'s signature Les Paul Standard a guitar of choice for garage bands and virtuosos on five continents.
"In my wildest dreams, I never thought I would see so many people using them," Paul said in a telephone interview prior to his induction. "I owe it to the rock-and-roll players, especially the Jeff Becks, the Paul McCartneys and Jimi Hendrix. All of them were playing a Les Paul guitar."
"[Gibson] laughed at me for 10 years," Paul said. "They called me 'the guy with the broomstick with the pickups on it.' "
More information on Les Paul can be found at his official website.
Usurper To Reunite?
Former Usurper and current Nightshade guitarist Rick Scythe has confirmed that he has been in talks recently with his former bandmates in Usurper regarding a reuinion tour. An updare from Rick Scythe reads as follows:
"My new project Nightshade Official has been on hiatus for a few weeks. We did start on some recordings and they've sounded awesome, but the other guitarist Mr. Faust quit the band suddenly and unexpectedly. Since we've rehearsed at his house, we are currently stuck with out a rehearsal room.
"So in my downtime I have been writing a LOT of music. Some new Nightshade stuff, and some stuff for a solo album. I am also looking for other musicians to collaborate with for this solo project. I am basically playing everything myself and then will invite some guests for guitar leads, vocals, drum parts and other things.
"I am planning on setting up a demo studio at my new house and am starting to buy some gear. I still have more to buy, but I figure by mid September I should be ready to record some solo material. More...
American Head Charge Calls It Quits
American Head Charge is hanging up their hat and disbanding. Citing singer Cameron Heacock’s “inability to continue on a musical career path,” the Minneapolis based hard-rock/industrial band is changing their name and beginning the audition process for a new vocalist.
“This is not the kind of news I enjoy being the bearer of, but we’ve been ready and waiting for input from Cameron for almost two years; we’ve written and recorded two albums worth of material in that time.” says co-founder and bassist Chad Hanks. “At this point, he no longer gives being in this band any sort of top priority, which is so sad seeing as how he has such an amazing and unique voice; I couldn’t wait to hear it on these songs.
“However, we’re looking forward to some new blood; a young, hungry soul that doesn’t sound like anyone else and is ready to work his ass off. We’re more than eager to get back to the mines. This is what we do.”
Potential vocalists can submit demos to NewVocalist2009@gmail.com
Burst To Break Up After U.S. Tour Dates
Sweden's Burst has issued the following announcement about choosing to disband after their upcoming U.S. tour:
"We are glad to announce that Burst will embark on our first US tour immediately following our appearance at the intriguing Planet Caravan festival in Asheton, NC on september 19. The tour will go through to October 10. Half the tour Burst and opener Zoroaster will be gigging with the draconian French metal philosophers Gojira on their Metallica off-dates, half the tour we’ll do our own shows with Zoroaster.
"At the same time, we’d like to announce that our first US tour will also be our last. Following a band meeting at the end of June, we have decided that it is time to let Burst sleep.
"We will honor our commitments, play the planned No Budget fest in Larissa, Greece as well as the US tour, and a possible best-of show in Sweden in late fall. But after that and for the foreseeable future, Burst will lay down its arms. Whether it is definite or indefinite, we can’t say. Thus, in accordance with modern internet heavy metal news site lingo, we’ll call it an 'indefinite hiatus.' More...
Manitou Calls It Quits
Finnish metallers Manitou have issued the following announcement about calling it a day:
"THE END OF THE MANITOU
"After a long struggle and a lot of effort to give some rescue breathing to this band without much results we've decided to call it a day and say goodbye to the MANITOU.
"We had some new rocking songs ready for the recording and we even had a new bad-ass keyboard player Mikko Reinamo on board. Too bad that we failed to get the recordings done due to the lack of motivation.
"12 years, three great albums and a big bunch of great gigs, ups and downs. A big thank you goes to all our friends, fans, co-operation partners and supporters, you know who you are!
"The good news are that Ismo, Antti, Mikko and Markus are already working together on a new still anonymous project, which will in a way continue the legacy of Manitou with a new singer and drummer on board. More info coming soon on this case, so keep on checking the Manitou myspace site for updates on what's happening in the family. More...
Ozzy Osbourne Dismisses Guitarist Zakk Wylde
In a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine, metal legend Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that he has parted ways with long-time guitarist Zakk Wylde.
“Well, I’m getting a new guitar player as we speak,” said Ozzy, “and everyone has been saying to me for a long time, ‘Get Johnny 5!’ And I tried him at one time and I didn’t really give him a chance. We’ll see, I don’t know. I haven’t fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk’s got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. I just felt like I wanted a change, y’know?
“I’ve got a guy from Greece coming in – not the musical, the country of Greece – but I’m not going to say too much about it, cos I don’t know myself at this point. I’ve got a new album, I’m working on it as we speak. I’ve got a studio at my house and I’ve got a guy called Kevin Churko, the guy that did the last album – he’s great to work with.
"And it’s great to have your own studio. On one hand it’s great and on the other it’s not, cos when you’re at the studio you can go, ‘Sorry darling, I can’t get home for dinner, I’m stuck at the studio…’ But she can fucking come down stairs now! But I’m just enjoying my life now…" More...
