Aeternitas Splits Up After 23 Years

Lübeck, Germany based symphonic metal veterans Aeternitas has announced that after twenty three years, the band has decided to break up. Their final release was the single, "Shadows," last year, with their final album being 2020's "Haunted Minds." A statement from the band reads as follows:

"As you may have noticed, there has been a period of silence and we now unfortunately share some sad news. It is with regret that we announce our decision to bring an end to the Aeternitas story.

"As you can imagine, this decision was truly the hardest in the history of the band, especially considering we have recently announced a new female singer and bass player.

“The reasons for our decision are hard to explain in detail and also complex. However, after the cancellation of our planned European tour in January we had a lot of time to reflect, consider the future, our collective and individual musical goals, wishes and expectations, which ultimately brought us to this outcome.

“On reflection, we are very thankful for more than 20 unbelievable years, including six album releases and many incredible live shows we experienced together with you all. However, now it is time for a new chapter.

“And so, we part as friends, proud of what we have achieved over all the years, which was only possible with your help and your support.

“For sure, we shall all continue our own metal or other musical endeavours and we are looking forward to seeing you in one of our future projects. You can already follow Miss ScarRed with her solo project https://instagram.com/miss_scarred_official. She is currently in the process of preparing an EP release this year, starting the production in April.

“Thank you all very much for your support and loyalty!

Secrets Of The Moon Announces Breakup

Secrets Of The Moon have announced the break-up of the band. One of the most individual, influential, and important German black metal and later dark rock acts will cease to be. Before the Northern Germans leave the stage forever, there is a last chance to see them live at a festival: Party San Open Air has added Secrets Of The Moon to this year's billing. The festival will take place in Schlotheim, Thuringia, Germany from August 11 to 13.

Secrets Of The Moon comment: "We are seeing the darkness at the end of the tunnel", writes singer Phil Jonas on behalf of the band. "From the moment that we built the four walls of the 'black house' with our bare hands skyward, we knew this would be not only our ultimate record but the epitaph at our final resting place. We thank you for walking this long winding idiosyncratic path with us over all these years. It has been an illuminating ride. Our appearance at this year's edition of the Party San Open Air will mark our final festival show."

The band's last album, "Black House" was released in 2020 and saw the band move further away from their black metal roots. To learn more about the record, you can read the interview which Metal Underground conducted with guitarist AR here. More...

Y&T Frontman Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer

Californian hard rock/heavy metal legends Y&T has announced that they have rescheduled a number of shows, following the confirmation that frontman and sole original member David Meniketti has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The singer underwent a "critical medical procedure" on February 11th. A statement from Meniketti reads as follows:

"After numerous blood tests, an extensive MRI, and last Friday's biopsy, I have been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. My doctor says we caught it early and the likelihood of surviving this is very high. Over 90% of patients with this type of cancer (thankfully mine is relatively slow growing) are cured and live out their life expectancy. Having spent a lifetime of staying on top of my health, and having caught this early, may be the reason why I should fully survive this.

"I urge everyone to listen to your bodies & get regular checkups. I know plenty of people that didn't do that, and it has been the difference between an extended life and death.

"Concerning how this affects upcoming shows, the Santa Cruz and Tracy Theatre shows will be unaffected by this and will go on as planned. But because of my lengthy treatment schedule, coming after those shows, we must cancel the Phoenix, Las Vegas, Hollywood, and San Juan Capistrano shows. Check the Y&T tour dates page for updates. We're expecting all other shows to remain intact.

"Though I'm generally not a person that believes entertainers need to share their medical issues in public, I felt it was just too hard to keep everyone in doubt… especially since many of you have been with us for Y&T's almost 50-year career and are like extended family.

"Regardless of this news, I am doing fine, feeling well, and look forward to getting this behind me and continuing to bring the music to you for many years to come."

Former W.A.S.P. Guitarist Diagnosed With Cancer

Former W.A.S.P. guitarist Chris Holmes, who recently pulled out of the Monsters Of Rock cruise, has been diagnosed with cancer in his throat and neck. A statement from his wife, Cathy, reads as follows:

"This post is not easy to write because of the personal nature of it and we would rather you hear it directly from us before stories and rumours start to circulate and by respect for all of you who love and support Chris, we feel that this is exactly what we need at this time.

"Recently Chris was diagnosed with a cancer in throat and neck but the medical team have assured us there has been no metastasis and this is a good news. He will have to start as soon as possible a treatment of 7 weeks.

"I know how important the Monsters of Rock Cruise is for Chris and the band but the health of Chris is what we have to focus on right now for the next 7 weeks and we will reschedule the MORC for a future date. Thank You very much Larry Morand for your kindness & understanding in this matter, you are much appreciated and the world need more people as you. Thank you also to all the team who make a wonderful work following every band in each step.

"The bandcamp will still continue to run during this time but if there might be some delays please forgive me .

"The best way to keep Chris positive is to continue to focus on the upcoming Canadian tour, shows we have in September and the UK tour in October. Don’t forget Chris is strong and he is a fighter and he will come back stronger than before.

"Many of you in your own way shows us everyday how much you care, we are lucky to have you as friends, your strength keeps our spirits high to continue to fight another day.

"Please we just ask for some privacy while we deal with this at this moment and Chris will come back to you stronger and ready to burn the stage with Stephen, Ollie, Lex and Florian.

"Keep rocking
"Chris and Catherine Sarah Holmes"

Metal Underground would like to send our best wishes to Chris and his family at this difficult time.

Megaforce Co-Founder Jon Zazula Passes Away

Jon Zazula, the co-founder of Megaforce Records and the man credited with helping to launch the careers of such bands as Metallica, Anthrax, Testament and Overkill, has sadly passed away. He follows his wife Marsha, the other Megaforce co-founder, who died on January 10th last year.

Zazula founded Megaforce in 1982, releasing Metallica's debut album, "Kill 'em All" the next year and would sign such other notable bands as Mercyful Fate, Ministry, Mushroomhead, The Black Crowes, Raven and Manowar. His autobiography, "Heavy Tales" was released in 2019.

His daughter Rikki broke the news with the following statement: "The world lost a true legend today… Our Dad lived a life as fast, hard, heavy, powerful, and, impactful as the music he brought to the world. His passion and persistence fueled the careers of arguably the most influential metal bands, and, industry greats of a generation. To us he was simply daddy… Our father and mother were a powerhouse partnership in love, life, and business. Together they believed in the unbelievable, their passion, rebel perspective, and persistence built an empire from a box of vinyl in a flea market - into a multi platinum selling record label, management company, and publishing house. Although we are devastated he is gone, they are finally reunited. And it feels impossible to imagine a world without him in it. For all of us who knew and loved him … by the way… keep it heavy! RIP daddy you will truly be deeply missed, but, never forgotten…your LegaZ will live on forever, not only in us and your grandchildren, but, in every headbanger on this planet for all of eternity!"
