Mutation and betrayal: those two themes surface repeatedly in the four songs from Cloak Of Organs' self-titled debut EP (which will be released on cassette August 26th, 2016).

The band came together in early 2016, tapping into the membership of some of Denver’s most lauded outfits: Wovenhand (Deathwish Inc.), Planes Mistaken for Stars (Deathwish Inc.), Neil Michael Hagerty and the Howling Hex (Drag City), and Slim Cessna’s Auto Club (Alternative Tentacles).

Invoking The Abstract Reveals Album Details

The instrumental tech metal architects from Invoking The Abstract will release debut full-length album "Aural Kaleidoscopes" via Unique Leader on September 30th, 2016.

Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina and formed in 2010, guitarists Tyler Ivey and Evan Garner started composing music for a new project that would become Invoking The Abstract. After the release of a first EP in 2012, they joined forces with percussionist Ryan Meadows and bassist Joseph Carrabotta.

The band recorded "Aural Kaleidoscopes" at The Basement Recording Studios with Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, The Contortionist, Scale The Summit). Comments the band:

"'Aural Kaleidoscopes' is a diverse and precise album written to challenge us as musicians and composers. Each song is composed in a different key, none of which are repeated until the final track that transforms the keys into a serialist scale. Some songs are composed to freely flow from one to the next, as others stand alone as achievements in their own right, creating a partial concept album. This album is also our first experiment with completely instrumental arrangements leaving the interpretation of each piece to the listener." More...

Hallowed Butchery Working On Album

It's been years since we heard anything solid from the criminally unknown Hallowed Butchery, but it would appear all that's about to change soon. Band mastermind Ryan Fairfield just issued this update via the band's Facebook profile:

"I think I am finally ready to make the follow-up to the first record. I wrote and recorded a 2nd full-length years ago but I never finished it and I never released it. It just didn't feel right. It wasn't Hallowed Butchery. It didn't have the elements that made people love that first record so much.

"It's taken me time to realize that. But, I do now. And I'm hungry, man. I'm really hungry to make another record. It's festering inside me, and it's only a matter of time before it bursts out like a fucking explosion.

"Time to dust off the guitar and get to work. It's been far too long..." More...

Death Koolaid Posts New Video

London, U.K. based punk / hardcore band Death Koolaid just released an official music video for latest single "Kids."

This is the second track off of upcoming "Vol. 2" album, set to release 8/25/2016, and was directed by Brendan Cleaves and filmed by Heath McWalters. Death Koolaid comments on the clip:

"We wanted to make a video that was conceptually simple, but with a strong message – although we were keen not to completely spell it out for people. We try to make our videos as interesting as possible and this one is definitely our most out-there ideas; a bunch of terrified and bewildered children running away from what appears to be a backstreet place of worship. It’s basically a direct translation of our band’s philosophy, caricaturing the power of ideology, fear, and control." More...

The response to this record has been really, really overwhelming. Charred Walls Of The Damned Details New Album

Charred Walls of the Damned, the brainchild of former Death/Iced Earth drummer Richard Christy - will release their third full-length, "Creatures Watching Over The Dead" on September 23rd via Metal Blade Records. Today the band has released the first single from the album entitled "The Soulless." Check the blistering track out below and pre-order your copy at this location.

Ask Charred Walls of the Damned drummer, founding member and principal songwriter Richard Christy what he wants to achieve with the band's third full-length and his answer is as succinct as it gets: "To bring the metal! I want people to listen to this album, bang their head, and have fun." It's actually hard to imagine anyone with even the slightest hankering for the hard stuff not having this exact reaction when exposed to the nine tracks comprising the record - for this is heavy, catchy, anthemic and downright killer music to wreck your neck to. At the same time, it stands as one of the most uplifting contributions to the metal canon of 2016, which is both timely and welcome. More...

Myrkur Releasing "Mausoleum" Live Recording

Aptly titled "Mausoleum," the album features beautifully dramatic & stripped down acoustic reinventions of seven songs from "M" plus one brand new song and a Bathory cover; all accompanied by the Norwegian Girls Choir and Håvard (ex-Ulver) on guitar.

Captured in a cold, dimly lit tomb covered in morbid frescos that depict the circle of human life from conception til death, "Mausoleum" is a showcase of Myrkur's voice in a chilling, unrivaled atmosphere. More...

King Seeks To "Reclaim The Darkness"

King - an unfaltering and melancholic blackened metal force from Australia - is keeping the spirit of old while carving a new path, epic while remaining raw, majestic while retaining a primitive atmosphere.

Within new album "Reclaim The Darkness," King creates a soundtrack to tell tales of an old world, a world forged by the gods and walked by giants. Tales of dark and bleak battles, never ending winters and the wonders of time and space.

The album mastering was taken care of by Thomas Eberger who has worked with bands such as Gorgoroth, Darkane, I and Symphony X and we are blown away by the finished product."

Castle Releases New Music Video

West Coast occult act Castle is pleased to unveil the official new music video for “Flash Of The Pentagram.” The tune comes by way of the band’s recently issued "Welcome To The Graveyard" full-length and can be viewed in the player below.

Elaborates guitarist Mat Davis, “Our director for ‘Flash Of The Pentagram,’ Brian J. Davis (who also directed Castle's ‘Evil Ways’), mentioned he didn’t think anyone had ever captured what it’s like to watch Castle live, so his idea was to use the gig flyer as a the kind of perfect medium to do that. He filmed us in a studio and printed the frames out on a cheap photocopier. Then he re-photographed the photocopies on an animation table over a month. We think the result is close to Castle live: intense, raw, and trance-like.”

Italian heavy psych/stoner rockers Dustrider signed on with Argonauta Records. The new album is slated for release by early Spring 2017.

Since the beginning, the band tries to mix very different influences, spanning from classic heavy metal to stoner, doom and sludge, in a personal and new interpretation. The sound can be described as a mixture of psychedelic/space rock fused with heavy stoner tunes with an adventurous spirit running throughout their music.

Although in a very short time, the band acquired a unique personal vision of music, creating a personal style fused in heavy doom, desert rock and fuzzy riffs in one spaced out trippy package. More...

Morbid Angel To Release New Album In 2017

Legendary Florida death metal act Morbid Angel has signed on with UDR Music for the band's upcoming new release (as of yet untitled), which is set to drop in 2017.

The album is the first since the departure of vocalist/bassist David Vincent and re-joining of Steve Tucker (Warfather) in 2015.

The only confirmed members are Tucker and band leader/guitarist Trey Azagthoth. The album will be the first full length since the polarizing 2011 release "Illud Divinum Insanus" (reviewed here).

As for the direction of the new album, in a 2015 interview with Jet, Steve Tucker expressed his desires: "All I know is I'm back in Morbid Angel to do a death metal album. I mean, I expect the album to be full-on death metal. I mean, I expect there to… Obviously, it's a Morbid Angel album, there'll be twists and turns on the album, there'll be stuff that's different, but I think it being aggressive and it being underground is really what it's gonna be about. I think that Morbid Angel is a death metal band, and that's what this album — this next one — will be."
