Third Ion Discusses Sophomore Album "Biolith"
Sci-fi prog metal band Third Ion got us all hot and bothered here at Metalunderground.com last year with the release of debut album "13/8 Bit," which had the group mentioned in our list of the best metal newcomers of 2015.
Fast forward to summer 2016 and Third Ion already has a sophomore output on the way, with the "Biolith" full-length release due to drop in just a handful of days.
That new album sees some elements staying the same while others have undergone big changes - most notably in the vocalist department. We caught up with guitarist / keyboardist Justin Bender to get an inside look at those changes and how this second album came together. More...
Keychain Aims To Resurrect Nu Metal
Keychain mixes together metal, alt-rock, and hip hop for a rebrith of the nu metal genre. In the band's first year of existence alone, the Quebec-based group has booked over 50 shows, confirmed an upcoming cross country North-American summer/fall tour, and will be releasing 3 music videos and 3 live acoustic videos by 2016's end.
Upcoming debut EP "Breaking Out" is set for release on August 5th and was produced by award winning producer/engineer/mixer Glen Robinson, plus mastered by Howie Weinberg (Pantera, Limp Bizkit, The Deftones, etc). Check out the song "Prime Time" below. Vocalist JP Lachapelle comments:

Nox Releasing New EP
Colombian black metal group Nox brings out traditional hateful black metal forgotten within the deep underground. The band will drop an EP titled "Ancestral Arte Negro" via Forever Plagued Records on August 26th.
"Ancestral Arte Negro" consists of four tracks presented on a black-vinyl 7" record. Limited to 300 hand-numbered copies, it also comes with a 7"x 7" insert and features the following track listing:

Zakk Wylde Gearing Up For North American Tour
Guitar icon Zakk Wylde will embark on a batch of U.S. and Canadian tour dates in continued support of his new LP "Book Of Shadows II." Wylde will hit over 40 cities spread out across the U.S. and Canada this summer, including a performance at Heavy MTL Festival in Montreal on August 7th, a first for him as a solo artist.

Ulcerate Reveals New Album
New Zealand death metal band Ulcerate has revealed the cover art and preliminary details surrounding a forthcoming fifth full-length album and follow-up to 2013's "Vermis."
New album "Shrines Of Paralysis" is due out via Relapse this fall (release date TBA soon). The cover art can be viewed below and the track listing is as follows:

Herman Frank Signs With AFM
AFM Records is pleased to announce the signing of Herman Frank. The acclaimed guitarist has written metal history with Accept and Victory, amongst others, and in addition he has released two successful albums with his solo band.
The label comments: "We're looking forward to unleash the new Herman Frank album later this year and also re-issue the first two albums 'Loyal To None' and 'Right In The Guts."

Zephyra Releasing New Album
Zephyra - a four piece metal band from Borås, Sweden - combines thrash and melodic death metal with the distinctive vocals of front woman Åsa Netterbrant.
After signing a record deal in 2014, the debut album "Mental Absolution" was released worldwide through Wormholedeath. Second full-length album "As The World Collapses" was recorded in the last quarter of 2015, and will be released on August 5th, 2016 via Inverse Records.
With the new album, Zephyra wants to show a bigger and more atmospheric sound than before, heavy and rhythmic with keyboards. Check out a music video for the "Words Of A Demagogue" single below. The new album's full track listing is:

Red Dawn Streaming Full Album

Countdown Releasing Demo On Vinyl
Flatspot Records has confirmed the impending re-release of the debut demo by New York City/Boston-based hardcore outfit, Countdown. The record will hit the streets this September 2nd, directly following a two-week run of East Coast US tour dates. Flatspot comments:
"Fully embodying the DIY spirit, Countdowns a force to be reckoned with. These young musicians are channeling legendary hardcore acts such as the Cro-Mags, Bad Brains, Leeway, and Outburst, while adding their own fresh twist to create an original take on the timeless punk sound.
"The band splits time between two locations: vocalist Chris Wilson, bassist Hardy Alegria, and guitarist Chandler Mercer in New York City, while guitarist Connor Jones, and drummer Mike Ralston are in Boston.
"This does not stop Countdown from remaining constantly busy, and after writing, recording, and self-releasing a demo, Flatspot Records picked up the act to officially re-release the songs to a wider international audience.
"Already carrying an intense amount of energy in the American hardcore scene, with a lot of attention already being focused on this demo release, you can expect to hear a lot more on Countdown in the months and years to come as the band blossoms and expands through more records and shows."

Airbourne Reveals New Album
Airbourne has confirmed "Breakin' Outta Hell" will be the title of the band's upcoming album, as well as a first single/video to arrive later this week.
Additionally, a headline tour of North America has been scheduled for September and October; the tour kicks off in San Diego on September 12th and concludes in Baltimore on October 14th, taking in 21 shows along the way.
Airbourne will launch this fourth studio album worldwide this fall via a new deal with Spinefarm Records. It was produced by Bob Marlette (who helmed the band's debut in 2007) and engineered and mixed by Mike Fraser, who has previously worked with Aerosmith, Van Halen, Metallica and more. Simulacrum Recruits New Vocalist
Simulacrum is now warmly welcoming vocalist Erik Kraemer as an additional singer to the band. The group comments:
"His singing style will be a great asset both live and on the next studio album that is currently being written and is heading towards the modern realms of djent. Even though Erik represents the high pitched traditional power metal sound, the coloring of his voice differs from Niklas' in a way that lets them both shine and it is easy to spot which one of them is singing on the songs."

Knockout Kid Posts "Empire Business" Video
Chicago’s Knockout Kid recently slayed this year’s Groezrock festival in Belgium and is now releasing a music video for “Empire Business." The latest Knockout Kid album “Manic” is out and will also be available on special limited edition colored 12” vinyl for Black Friday Record Store Day 2016.
The band checked in to say: “'Manic' is our testament to those flaws we’re told to hide, the ones that make us, US. Find an outlet for your suffering. Raise it as a flag. Better yet, send it as a beacon from your lighthouse.”
Speaking on the band's recent signing, Knockout Kid also said, "Joining the Bullet Tooth family is a dream come true for Knockout Kid. Having grown up on bands from Josh and Bullet Tooth, it's only right that they release our most ambitious album to date. The future has never been brighter.” More...
Stillborn Releases New Video
Promoting latest album "Testimonio de Bautismo," the death metal profaners from Stillborn (along with Christ Agony) recently headlined the Black Blood tour.
During the gigs, Stillborn recorded loads of material to be featured in an official live video for the track "Obled." Recording and production duties were handled by DR Silesia and the finished product can be seen below.
Stillborn has also now started work on new material for an upcoming mini album to be recorded at the end of the year. The release will contain three new tracks and a cover.
Foghound Releasing "The World Unseen"
Erupting from the Baltimore asphalt in early 2012, Foghound has honed fuzzed out grooves through the systematic wrecking of stages and eardrums across the East Coast of America.
Debut album "Quick, Dirty & High" was released in 2014 on Moving The Earth Records, and now the group is gearing up to release a follow-up record.
Recorded in January 2015 in Raleigh, North Carolina onto 2” analog tape by Corrosion Of Conformity’s Mike Dean, and later mixed by Frank "The Punisher" Marchand in Annapolis, Maryland, "The World Unseen" highlights the band’s growth as darker lyrical images lay the groundwork for even bigger riffs and textured dynamics.

Saattue Posts New Song Online
Saattue's new album "Kärsimysnäytelmä" was originally scheduled to drop at the end of June but has now been pushed back to July 22nd. Swedish psychedelic rock outfit MaidaVale just released a seriously vintage video for “(If You Want Smoke) Be The Fire." The song is taken from "Tales of the Wicked West," MaidaVale’s debut album.

Flotsam & Jetsam Comments On 30th Anniversary
This year Flotsam And Jetsam is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the "Doomsday For The Deceiver" album, with the band commenting:
"July 4, 1986 - Metal Blade Records release date of the 'Doomsday' album that started a 30 year musical journey for Flotsam and Jetsam that has stretched across the world.
"Thanks for coming along for the ride, as we set sail for another year and another album. See you on the road. Cheers!"
Flotsam and Jetsam's previously announced U.S. tour has been postponed until November, although a one-off show at Joe's Grotto on Augist 6th is still scheduled to take place. More...
Heathen Deity Issues Recording Update
U.K. black metal band Heathen Deity just checked in with this statement about recording and upcoming live shows:
"Hails brothers and sisters! Only a quick update, Last weekend saw a very successful rehearsal for us, an intense six hour rehearsal with only one break for a pint to be precise!
"The live set is sounding a lot better, tighter and more refined as the new members settle in to their respective roles within the band. Our rebirth as a live band at Blackwood will be a memorable one for us and I hope for all you grim bastards who will be venturing to the frozen forests of deepest darkest Cumbria in October.
"Recording-wise, the drum pre-production is almost complete now, and as soon as we have received the last few tracks we can start fleshing out the songs.

Chugun Announces Video Competition Winner
Chugun - which recently signed to Sliptrick Records and released the "Virus" album last year - had been running a competition to see which fan could come up with the best video idea, and now the winning concept has been announced. The band comments:

Pequod Premieres Pre-Release Full-Album Stream
Germany’s death metal outfit Pequod premieres the pre-release full-album stream of the band's upcoming new EP "False Divinity", which will be out in stores July 5. The album was mixed by Fredrik Folkare (Unleashed, Necrophobic) at Chrome Studios and mastered by Peter In de Betou (Meshuggah, Opeth, Amon Amarth) at Tailor Maid Music Production. Steve Tucker's Warfather Premieres New Song
Warfather - featuring Morbid Angel guitarist/vocalist Steve Tucker - premieres a new song entitled "Headless Men Can No Longer Speak", taken from the upcoming new album "The Grey Eminence", which will be out in stores September 16 via Greyhaze Records.
