David Vincent Reverses Statement, Leaving Morbid Angel

After previously denying that he had been booted from Morbid Angel, David Vincent has now issued the following statement about leaving the band:

"I had good communication with Trey yesterday and we agree that there are incompatibilities with regards to us working together.

"Trey and I have accomplished amazing things together over the past 30 years and I wish him the best with his future projects. Out of respect for the legacy of these accomplishments, I encourage Morbid Angel fans to not take sides because, I am not.

"I look forward to sharing my new endeavors with all of you in the near future. Until then, stay Morbid!"

This is good news and bad. While I prefer David's more enunciated vocals, Steve still rules as far as sheer brutality. "Ilud Divinum Insanus" was nowhere near as bad as haters make it out to be, musically interesting but creatively unfocused. The last time Trey found himself in a similar situation he delivered "Formulas Fatal to the Flesh," one of Morbid Angel's greatest albums and possibly the truest to Trey's spiritual and musical vision. So the only thing I'm concerned about is the waiting time for more amazing work. I'll always miss Pete though: greatest drummer ever.

When Dave left in 95/96, Morbid Angel produced sloppy, poorly arranged crap. Gateways had a couple of good tunes. Illud was actually not too bad, minus the electronica. The Death metal songs were good. They will suck once again without Dave

PS- Trey acted disloyal and fickle in the way Dave left the band. And Tucker should have showed a bit of respect for Dave-- Dave >; Tucker

Andy: Read what Mike Browning had to say about how Vinent entered the band in the first place, then consider defending his position again.

I agree, Andy. Trey behaved like a CHILD, David proved to be a MAN. Tucker was (and still is) nobody, he must only thank Trey.

Tucker's vocals are BETTER than Vincent's as far as brutality and emotion. Dave's are better in that they are among the very few death metal vocals that are clearly enunciated without the lyric sheet or memorization skills. I'm still looking forward to anything Trey does, no matter which of these guys are growling. And, despite everything, they ALL seem to be handling the band transition far more maturely than Van Halen.

@ jenny fear: Is that really your opinion? I found David Vincent's vocals to be extremely sloppy (not in rhe good sense of sloppy) and weak (well, there is no good sense of weak, I guess) and overall not very enunciated on the last album. Back in the day it was different, but today I won't miss those vocals...

Besides, sorry if I sound offensive, I have absolutely nothing against the guy or fans of him, I just can not understand how anyone can consider his work to be of very good quality lately, but I am happily corrected, should that be possible.

Yes, that's my opinion, but everyone hears things differently based on how used to hearing a vocalist's work they are. Morbid Angel was the first death metal band that tore at my soul, and David Vincent's clear vocals helped me in that important life transition. That being said, I am a fan of Morbid Angel more so than of David Vincent, and Morbid Angel to me is the writing and musicianship of Trey Azagthoth more than anything else. As noted previously, I also enjoy Steve Tucker's vocals -- which strike me as far more visceral and emotive.
