Avatar To Release New Album In February

The heavy metal 'n' roll, dark, madcap visionaries collectively known as Avatar - vocalist Johannes Eckerström (vocals), guitarists Jonas Jarlsby and Tim Öhrström, bassist Henrik Sandelin, and drummer John Alfredsson - have emerged from deep within the Swedish forest to announce "Dance Devil Dance," their ninth album. It arrives on February 17 via Thirty Tigers. Pre-order it here.

Today, they have shared the NSFW and sanguine video for the title track, "Dance Devil Dance." Watch it below... if you dare! The clip was directed by longtime director Johan Carlèn.

"I woke up to the truth one day," says Eckerström. "With my heart pounding, and a heavy breath, I knew for sure. I am Satan. The snake and forbidden fruit with a longing for knowledge, freedom and agency. My feet were moving. I thought I was running, but I was dancing. A celebration. Yes, I am the Devil, and I believe that one day you can be the Devil too. It is my hope and ambition that this song will help you find your way there. As such, it's a celebration of love, lust and democracy." More...

Blackrain Releases "Demon" Music Video

French Hard Rock band Blackrain released their fourth single and video for the song "Demon" today. The song is taken from the forthcoming studio album "Untamed." You can check it out below.

Those who were there may remember this cult series from the 90s that rocked their childhood. The garage, an improvised rehearsal studio, hosted the romances of Hèlène and her girlfriends with the boys. But when it came to listening to the musicians' music, a little jingle sounded and we moved on to another scene. This is why 30 years after the screen debut of Laly (Laly Meignan), José and his famous waistcoats (Philippe Vasseur), Jimmy (Tom Schacht), the Hard Rock group BlackRain comes to titillate our apprentice musicians for their offer to play a complete song in the garage. The song, tinged with nostalgia, speaks of the memory of our young years and its cohort of new experiences. The demon is never far away to tempt us to come back to it.

The new album "Untamed" will be released on November 25, 2022 through SPV/Steamhammer as CD DigiPak, 2LP version, CD/LP bundle with shirt (only at the Steamhammer shop) and download. More...

Nihilist Death Cult To Release Debut Album

Formed in 2018 by Nick Sagias on bass and vocals (Tribe of Pazuzu, Soulstorm, Overthrow, ex-Pestilence) and his brother John Sagias on drums (Soulstorm, Abyss) along with guitarists Ethan Bolduc (Jaww, Abyss), and Rick Kowalski (Soulstorm, Bound By Defiance), Toronto's Nihilist Death Cult will be unleashing their debut album entitled "Death To All Tyrants" this coming December.

The album features nine quick strikes to the jugular of hardcore death punk recorded and mixed by Scott Middleton (ex-Cancer Bats). It's short and sweet with a running time of just under 15 minutes, but it delivers a full dose of whiplash and speedy licks.

Earlier this summer, the band unveiled the album's title track, a song about the underdog stepping up to the tyrant and winning.

"Scott was excellent to work with and helped us a lot with hearing things we didn’t hear before, that’s what a good producer does and it was a great experience working with him. After we heard the final mixes, there was the daunting task of picking the first track we would use for the lyric video and be the first thing anyone heard of us as a "new" band. We eventually settled on 'Death To All Tyrants' because it felt like it set the tone for both the sound and lyrical message we were trying to get across with NDC. We are not trying to be political or force our opinions, but we still feel we are responsible for some substance in our lyrics and I feel the messages in the lyrics are universal ideas that affect all of us in many types of situations and cultures." adds Nick Sagias.

Recommended for fans of Poison Idea, early DRI, early Bad Brains, Nails, Terrorizer and CroMags, Nihilist Death Cult's album "Death To All Tyrants" is due out on December 2, 2022. More...

Defleshed Posts New Music Video Online

Swedish death metallers, Defleshed, are celebrating the release of their new full-length, "Grind Over Matter," today. To give the fans something special, a ripping new video for the track "Heavy Haul" (directed by Mattias Björkbacka) has just been released. Check it out below.

Comments Gustaf Jorde: "Lo and behold - our most ambitious video to date - Heavy Haul! Made to play loud so crank it up - don't hold it down!"

"Grind Over Matter" was tracked at Rorysound Studios, Uppsala, Sweden, with Lawrence Mackrory, with two weeks devoted to drums, another two for guitar and bass and two three-day sessions for vocals. "It was pretty straightforward, the hardest part was to not get carried away by impulsive ideas too much, but stay put to the original plan," says Jorde. More...

Unearthing the Metal Underground: Black Spell

We can safely assume that Skull isn’t the actual last name shared by the members of Black Spell. In any event, the trio—bassist Pierre (bass), Johan (drums, synthesizer) and Alastair (guitars, organ, vocals)—has been making waves in the international stoner doom scene since its self-titled debut album in 2020. With its third full-length poised for release, the Italian band continues to stand tall by paying homage to its homeland’s impressive history in the realms of both doom metal and psychedelic rock. “Season of the Damned” will be released by Helter Skelter Productions/Regain Records digitally on November 11, followed by CD and vinyl versions on December 9, 2022, and January 20, 2023, respectively.
