Varg Drops "Eisenseite" Music Video

Varg, Germany’s top-notch pagan metal force, returns stronger than ever on their new album, entitled "Ewige Wacht" (Engl. Eternal Vigil), to be released on October 13, 2023 via Napalm Records. Today, the wolves prove their standing as a firmly rooted, leading entity in the scene once more by unleashing the brand-new single "Eisenseite," cut from the new offering. After dropping the first single, "Immer Treu," "Eisenseite" is another powerful hymn that showcases how much singer Fylgja has been involved in the full album this time. Her valkyrie-like singing expands the band's sonic spectrum and forms a perfectly harmonizing contrast to Freki's razor-sharp screams and growls.

Accompanied by a matching music video, the song transports Nordic mythology as well as values like honesty and loyalty, which also symbolizes the album as a whole.

Varg on "Eisenseite":
"A hymn to bravery and the determination to fight for what is important to you, even when it seems hopeless. It is not our blood that ennobles us, it is our soul, the way we live our lives towards others and our attitude that makes us honourable and great." More...

Razor Cancels Remaining 2023 Live Shows

Canadian thrash metal stalwarts Razor has announced that they have been forced to cancel their remaining live shows for 2023. A message from guitarist Dave Carlo reads as follows:

"My friends, it is with great disappointment that I must regretfully announce Razor’s withdrawal from our remaining performances in 2023. There have been several unfortunate developments in the last three months that have made it impossible for us to fulfil our performance commitments. Bob’s recent diagnosis of congestive heart failure following our last trip to Europe this past June was a severe setback, as he cannot travel long distances at this time. In spite of this, and because we had some very important commitments to our fans and to our friends in Destruction, I attempted to put a line up together that would be able to continue without Bob temporarily.

"Throughout August, I conducted extensive auditions and was able to secure musicians who I felt would do us proud and deliver the type of experience our fans desire and deserve. But it appears it was not meant to be at this time as I sustained an injury to my right hand that has made it impossible for me to play the high speed style that is required.

"I will not be able to play for 6 weeks and following that I have to undergo some additional rehab which has now made it impossible to complete the shows in 2023. As I was greatly looking forward to this tour and the festival appearances we had scheduled, this was tremendously disappointing news for me (and the other musicians who have worked hard to be ready to fill in!). So for now, we are unfortunately on a temporary hiatus.

"BUT: we have plans to be very active in 2024 and I promise that we will make up for this in the coming year. We will be back stronger than ever, we are not ready to retire my friends! I look forward to performing for all of you as soon as I am able. In the meantime I know that solid replacement artists will be taking our place. Full details of the events described here will be made available on my YouTube channel in the coming week. All the best."

Dokken Releases "Gypsy" Video

Legendary American rockers, Dokken, have released the infectious new single, "Gypsy", taken from the band’s 13th studio album, "Heaven Comes Down," set for release on October 27 via Silver Lining Music.

"While writing the new record, we had written a lot of music, but I sometimes got stuck with the lyrics so I decided to go camping," explains Don Dokken. "I came across a woman wearing a lot of necklaces and jewelry. She was driving an old wagon with one horse and she was stuck in a hole, I asked her if she needed help but she said ‘no the sun will be up soon’. She had a fire going and invited me to have some food that was cooking in an old pot, so I did and we began to talk."

"She spoke in broken English and looked Navaho" continues Don. "There is a reservation here in New Mexico. The first thing she said to me was ‘you make music’ and I was intrigued by that, so we sat there for several hours and talked, she looked very old yet wise. She told me about her life living on the reservation and I told her about my life. She told me I had lost my way, which I found funny since she seemed to be lost but wasn’t! It was pitch black, she looked up and said ‘the stars guide me’ and started speaking Navaho. I found the experience very surreal!"

Don concludes, "I got my jack out of my truck and lifted up her wagon, we both gathered a lot of rocks and filled the hole so she could get her wagon unstuck, and then she just walked away and started to drive off without saying a word, but then she shouted back to me and said ‘the sun is coming up… you need to go, the coyotes and mount lions will be hunting soon’... very wise advice!"

Sinnery Unveils "An Ode" Music Video

Unleashing their new EP "Below the Summit" on September 29th via Exitus Stratagem Records, Israeli thrashers Sinnery are kicking off their six-date tour of the UK supporting Sworn Amongst from September 18th - 23rd, which will then be followed by a performance at Metal Gates Festival in Romania alongside Katatonia, Rotting Christ, Shores of Null and more!

Set to be released at the end of September, Sinnery’s "Below The Summit" will be the third installment in their thrash metal legacy. Armed with blistering guitar solos, thunderous drumming, and roaring vocals, this trailblazing thrash metal outfit from Israel is set to obliterate eardrums with the latest single "An Ode" off this upcoming release.

"We discovered new elements and patterns in our composition while writing An Ode that we hadn't done on our last record Black Bile thus continuing our broadening metal journey." adds the band.

Musically this song is much more melodic than other Sinnery material and stands out with its thrashy punches and very cool chorus, while still delivering the heavy tones expected from them. They further describe the track explaining that lyrically it's based on a real-life experience about not being worthy in a romantic relationship because of choosing one's own best interests. More...

Sorcerer Announces New Album "Reign Of The Reaper"

There is no stopping the mighty Sorcerer and in the autumn of 2023 the band will release their highly anticipated fourth album entitled "Reign Of The Reaper." Again not content with repeating themselves the album features some of the darkest, heaviest and most aggressive material the band has ever recorded, and at the same time some of the most lyrical and beautiful.

For a first preview of the album, a video (directed by Daniel Wahlström @ Heavy Groove Media) for the opening track "Morning Star" can be viewed below.

For "Reign Of The Reaper" the band holed up in their home studios and wrote music all through 2022 and then once again headed to SolnaSound Recording in Stockholm, the studio owned, run and operated by Simon Johansson (Wolf, Soilwork) with Mike Wead (King Diamond) assisting, to record the drums. Sorcerer likes to work with a small, tried and trusted team so therefore they once again employed the services of Ronnie Björnström (engineering/mixing/ mastering) and Jani Stefanovic (cover art for the singles & artwork booklet/packaging design); these guys have been working with the band since the first album and as per usual they delivered superbly. The striking album cover artwork was created by Swedish artist Joakim Ericsson. Conny Welén as usual handled co-production duties. Anders says: "He has been working with us since 2015 and the reunion album In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross. Connys contribution to our sound is heard in every song; he is involved in the arrangements and plays all keyboards." He also co-writes the vocal melodies and the foundations of some of the lyrics and on top of this he also recorded Anders‘ vocals in his studio. Photographer Marieke Verschuren provided the awesome band photos as she also did on the previous album.

For the opening track and first single "Morning Star," based on the fall of Lucifer, the band showcases their proficiency in fusing classic metal with other heavy elements with quite a few twists and turns along the way. With a bombastic rhythm section spear-headed by Evensand and Biggs, to the melodic and brilliantly executed guitar work of Niemann and Hallgren, culminating with the ferocious Engberg, whose voice soars, "Morning Star" takes the listener on a relentless journey through the kingdom of Pandemonium and hell itself. Kristian says: "I came up with the majestic opening guitar line while I was in the gym, I remember that distinctly. I grabbed my phone and sang the line into the voice recorder, as I always do when I get ideas. I didn‘t think much of it and promptly forgot all about it until it was time to write songs for the album. I had about 150 riffs and ideas that I went through and this one immediately grabbed my attention. I‘m super-happy with this track and it sounds exactly how I envisioned it when I first started working on it. The guys in the band KILLED it, everybody played and sang their asses off."

"Reign Of The Reaper" will be released on the 27th of October by Metal Blade Records and features eight brand new tracks guaranteed to appease the appetites of metal heads from all sides of the Heavy Metal spectrum.

Tracklisting:
1 Morning Star
2 Reign Of The Reaper
3 Thy Kingdom Will Come
4 Eternal Sleep
5 Curse Of Medusa
6 Unveiling Blasphemy
7 The Underworld
8 Break Of Dawn More...
