Down Leaves Elektra

Down, the supergroup featuring former Pantera duo Phil Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass), guitarists Kirk Windstein (Crowbar) and Pepper Keenan (COC) plus drummer Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod), have left their label Elektra. This seems to have happened following the disappointing sales of the ‘Down II: Bustle In Your Hedgerow’ album. Right now, the band are on ice, as the members pursue other projects, and it’s not known when/if there will be a third album.

In related news, siN's Metal News has an interview with Phil Anselmo, who answers questions about Down, Ozzfest 2004 and blank metal among other things.

Leaves' Eyes Recording 'Lovelorn'

At the moment the members of LEAVES' EYES are busy with recording their album "Lovelorn" at Mastersound Studio, which will be released 24.05.2004 by Napalm Records. Prior to the album, a single will be out 05.04.2004. Moreover, a video will be made early February. Lead vocalist Liv Kristine, ex-singer of Theatre of Tragedy, adds the following:

"In connection with this album, I feel totally free as an artist and singer! It's a pleasure and it makes so much fun to work on it, and at Mastersound Studio I feel particularly well as these rooms have become something like a second home for me. Especially now, at these emotional times in which we are, it feels wonderful to record an album like this, due to the fact that it is based on a concept where deep feelings come together. It is a perfect medium to escape from every-day life. Personally I believe that "Lovelorn" is going to be a fantastic album - maybe the best production I've ever taken part in! And I'm sure the people out there will appreciate our work!"

In advance you can listen to the demoversion of the LEAVES’ EYES Song “Norwegian Lovesong” on the Napalm Records Compilation V and the 20th anniversary Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg Compilation.

Atrocity Recording 'Atlantis'

The recordings for the new ATROCITY album called “Atlantis” are in full swing. The concept album is produced at Mastersound Studio and will be released 26.04.2004 by Napalm Records. There are even three hot songs as candidates for the Single release, which will be out in stores 01.03.2004: „Cold Black Days“, „Enigma“ and „Sunken Paradise“. There will be shot a video clip for one of these songs in January 2004. Singer and producer Alex Krull:

“We intend to stage the concept album about Atlantis with great expenses. It’s a great theme and it contains many interesting facts and it has stayed one of the mysterious phenomenas with all its myths and legends until today. Because of that, the musical side will not only be one dimension at all. There will be absolutely brutal and bombastic songs with incredible heaviness as well as very atmospheric and melodic songs. “Atlantis” is exactly the right material for this band to give top speed.”

In advance you can listen to the demo version of the Atrocity song “Gods of Nations” on the Napalm Records Compilation V and the 20 th anniversary Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg Compilation.

Former Hades Guitarist Continues Work On Solo CD

Former Hades guitarist Dan Lorenzo has sent us the following update on the recording progress of his upcoming solo CD:

"Last Sunday while it was snowing in Jersey, I was at Crystal Studios and recorded 6 more songs for my upcoming solo CD. If you go to www.DanLorenzo.net you can listen to two rough mixes, 'Frozen Planet' and 'Dan Zig Hates X-Mas'. Johnny Milnes played drums. Former Hades drummer Ron Lipnicki couldn't get to the studio because of the snow, but I'm recording 5 more songs with him soon (including 'Hotter Than Hell' by Kiss) and then the CD will be finished. Jimmy Schulman played bass on 'Frozen Planet' and I played bass on the rest. Alan Tecchio (Non-fiction, Hades, Watchtower) is going to sing on one of the songs Ron plays on. I'm going to finish mixing the CD in early January and release it right away. I'm losing sleep because I'm so jazzed about singing lead for the first time plus I'm going to have a 15-song CD that I only had 2 band rehearsals for. Jim Florentine from Crank Yankers may also make an appearance on the disc I'm calling Dan Lorenzo 'Cassius King'. It should be out no later than the first week in February and will initially only be available via my website."

Scott Weiland Under Strict Lockdown For Drugs

VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland has been placed on strict lockdown at the Pasadena, CA. rehab facility where he is currently completing a six-month residential program after he was caught attempting to smuggle drugs into the center, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

Weiland, who was allowed out for several days last month, under police supervision, to complete his vocals for VELVET REVOLVER's debut album, is believed to have one more song left to record for the as-yet-untitled CD, tentatively due in late March/early April through RCA Records.

The album, which was produced by Josh Abraham (LIMP BIZKIT, STAIND), is currently being mixed at a California studio by Andy Wallace, who has previously worked with NIRVANA, WHITE ZOMBIE, LINKIN PARK, SLAYER and SEPULTURA, among many others.

As previously reported, the former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS vocalist was scheduled to appear in court on December 3 on a DUI charge, but the hearing was moved to December 23. Weiland will enter a plea at that time to charges of driving under the influence of drugs. He was arrested on his birthday, October 27, after crashing his BMW into several parked cars on a Los Angeles street, then attempting to flee the scene.

Evanescence Singer Discusses Moody's Departure

Evanescence appeared on MuchMusic on Sunday (December 14) where singer Amy Lee was asked why her former best friend and founding member Ben Moody left the group. "I don't know. I would like to ask him," Lee said. "He changed his number. But it gets to a point sometimes, in this situation very early on, that your heart isn't in it, and when your heart isn't in something, it messes it up for all of you. All of us, including Ben, are happier now. Thank you." She expanded on the two not speaking yet saying, "I don't know what to say. 'Hey, dude, what's up?' I don't know. We'll talk eventually. I think we ended up at one of the same after-parties at an awards ceremony, but I didn't see him." As for the mystery surrounding the whole situation, Lee says, "You have to be there to understand. It's one of those things where we were in a bad situation, kind of like perpetually, and it was kind of an ongoing negative vibe and something had to give, and it did."
