Massacre Announces New EP

Following a slaying performance at Maryland Deathfest last weekend, Floridian death metal juggernauts, Massacre have announced plans to release a new EP titled "Mythos" on July 1st with Nuclear Blast. Today, the band has revealed the record's first single "Behind The Serpent's Curse," which features Anders Odden (Cadaver), that is accompanied by a b-side track "The Dunwich Horror."

Commenting on the new single and b-side, vocalist Kam Lee states:

"'Behind the Serpent's Curse' is lyrically inspired by and roughly based on the Lovecraft short story 'The Curse Of Yig,' but is also the most metaphorically lyrical based song I've written in Massacre, and that is directly inspired by actual real life circumstances. It acts like a warning of sorts and is a foretelling of how it's been like dealing with certain toxic individuals in my life. It indirectly relates to individuals whom always seem to come in pairs, and how, like serpents these people spread their venomous poison (lies).

"I also had guest vocalist Anders Odden (Cadaver) join me on this particular track because lyrically it is very similar in theme to the Cadaver track "Feed The Pigs" that I made a guest appearance on. Having two distinct vocalist on a track that lyrically is based on the concepts of duality of untrusting individuals wasn't just an after thought either, I always intended this track to be represented by two vocalist.

"'The Dunwich Horror' is a more traditional track in both lyrical approach and aesthetics. It's just basically loosely based upon the Lovecraft story of the same name, but still resonates upon the core theme of twins. Two seemingly evil brother abominations brought into this world by a grotesque and hideous matriarch. I guess one could say I am suggesting that behind every pair of twin lying toxic men is always an equally conniving female antagonist. Yeah, sure, I'm simply reflecting upon my own past experiences, but it seems to be the case in a lot of similar circumstances.

"Musically both tracks are laden in the same old school death metal style that can be found on 'Resurgence.' It's a sound and style that carries over and shall continue to be the core essence of Massacre under my helm." More...

Massacre Shares NSFW Music Video

2021 marks a monumental year for death metal with the long-awaited return of influential Floridian juggernauts, Massacre! Today, the band has unleashed their highly anticipated album, "Resurgence," with Nuclear Blast. Their 4th album, in a career spanning nearly 4 decades, is classic, unadulterated death metal in its purest form.

In conjunction with today's record release the band has unveiled what is likely one of the most horrifying and appalling music videos ever made for their latest single "Return of the Corpse Grinder." Watch the repugnant uncensored video (banned from YouTube), or the censored version for those with weak stomachs! *TRIGGER WARNING: Brutal violation of corpse and necrophilia of charred human remains

Commenting on the release of "Resurgence" and gruesome new single "Return of the Corpse Grinder," vocalist Kam Lee states:

"Well for starters… we made a video for RETURN OF THE CORPSE GRINDER… but it is so disgusting and foul it may be BANNED! How fucking awesome is that?!! Total Jorg Buttgereit (NEKROMANTIK films) worship! Disgusting necrophilia and Ed Gein worship – the ONLY way to do the song justice. Anything less would have been a disservice and just wimpy!! But it’s most likely too extreme for most viewers… I feel so accomplished!!

"I hope fans do get to check it out… it’s a total complete tribute to the Nekromantik films and to Ed Gein being the influence to the original songs lyrics to begin with. And the songs music is just a perfect continuation in style and form – it really brings the Corpse Grinder saga full circle. Coming out of the gate with 'Resurgence' and being told that video we did for the 2nd part to the Corpse Grinder may be too extreme to air is fucking brilliant!!

"I am proud of the work we did on the album, the songs and material really are the essence of O.S.D.M. style and sound, and I feel this was the best team I could gather together to make this album what it is! I realize lightening couldn’t strike twice… 'From Beyond' was lightening in a bottle… and it’s not going to be beat, but I did my best to bring the proper team together to make a follow up – 30 years late – that is and proves to be the proper and correct continuation of the band Massacre the way it was always meant to be!" Massacre Posts New Music Video Online

Florida's masters of death metal, Massacre, have debuted a gruesome music video today for their brand new single "Whisperer In Darkness," which is found on their highly anticipated 4th full-length album, "Resurgence," that's out October 22nd from Nuclear Blast.

Commenting on the new single, vocalist Kam Lee states:

"This is the bands love ballad. The first song we wrote together for the album, the one that brings us together in sweet harmony like honey and butter covered toast. It’s like a warm cozy cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter's morning… with marsh-mellows even. Until the horrid eldritch tentacle reaches up out of the toilet and violently picks you up off your feet and slams you face first into the concrete floor. Broken teeth, spurting blood and gore as parts of your tongue are torn from your maw while this hideous creature crawls its way up your rectum. Like I said… a love ballad." More...

It’s a long time dream of mine to be a part of the metal family under the NB flag and I am even more so grateful that it’s with my signature band. We have a lot of plans for the future of Massacre, and what a great place to be making such a proper return other than one of the best independent metal labels in the world."

Bassist Michael Borders adds:

"It's a privilege at this point in our careers to be associated with the big name in metal labels, we did our best to make this a proper Massacre release, an authentic sounding representation of a band we started over thirty years ago." More...

1985-1995: The Golden Age of Death Metal

Death should be credited with creating death metal, at least the old school style we recognize now, as they birthed the infamous Tampa, Florida sound. Bands such as Autopsy and Obituary—two of the forerunners—would not exist without Death. Death is not the true father of death metal, though. That distinction goes to Possessed. The California Bay Area group not only played a style of brutal, vicious metal, with loads of Satanic imagery, they also coined the term “death metal” on the “Seven Churches” album.

Around 1985, albums similar to “Slowly We Rot” (Obituary) and “Mental Funeral” (Autopsy) simply did not exist. Thrash was the fasted, craziest music around. Of course Possessed has already been mentioned, but the influence of Slayer, who obviously influenced Possessed, can not be under recognized. Where Possessed was different was they used a rougher production. Dark Angel, whose drummer, Gene Hoglan, would go on to be one of the most heralded drummers in the metal biz, certainly showed a good dose of Slayer in their sound. In the beginning, Slayer was nothing more than a faster, nefarious, more solo-oriented Venom protégé. More...

Massacre Splits With Two Members, Drops Off Tour

Death DTA Tours regret that, due to several factors, Massacre will not be taking part in the "Symbolic 20th Anniversary" European tour in late February/March 2015.

Unfortunately, Massacre also had to cut its participation in the Swamp Leper Stomp '14 tour with DTA, Obituary and Rivers Of Nihil by one show.

Massacre bassist Terry Butler and vocalist Ed Webb today issued joint statements indicating that they have formally exited the band.

Said Terry Butler: "It's with a heavy heart that I am announcing my departure from Massacre. I wish Ed, [drummer] Mikey [Mazzonetto] and [guitarist] Rick [Rozz] the best of luck with their future endeavors. I would like to thank the awesome fans for their support and loyalty and to those who labored to help bring the band back from beyond. Thank you as well....Arrivederci!"

Adds Ed Webb: "After much thought and consideration it is with deep regret that I announce my departure from Massacre. This was not an easy decision to make but a necessary one. The last four years have had its share of both unbelievable times as well as some times I wish to forget. I want to thank all of the Massacre fans, those who accepted me as the new vocalist as well as those who didn't. You guys gave me the desire to work harder than I ever had in the past. I also had the privilege to play some of the most incredible shows, do some killer tours and meet a lot of great people along the way. At this point, I am going to just concentrate on my two main projects [Generichrist and Destined To Ruin] as well as a few other projects I am working on. I want to endlessly thank Terry, Rick and Mikey for the opportunity to record an absolutely crushing CD and get to tour around the world with them. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors. I hope to see everyone in the future and thanks for letting me do what I live to do!"
