For Today Wrecks Van and Trailer

Earlier this week For Today damaged their van and trailer in a Texas auto accident. Drummer David Morrison comments:

"Satan tried to kill us all today and made Brenton fall asleep at the wheel...

"Most all of us were sleeping. I woke to water pouring on me (bottle of water), yelling, a window breaking, tires screeching and blowing, and mega shaking... I was honestly certain we were dead and that we were about to hit something (I was laying down and awoken suddenly, didn't see what was going on).

"We hit the side wall, spun out of control, across the other lane (no cars in the 40ft radius of our huge rig? Ya right, what a God thing!), through the ditch. Lots of popped tires, bent axle on the trailer, $2,000 of body work on the trailer, busted out window on the van, trailer hitch ruined on the van, driver side is ALL scraped up really bad, door is smashed in, both bumpers are effed, front driverside corner is mega effed. Still drives, got the bumper pulled out.

"Van is being taken care of by insurance. Trailer is not - big time financial hit. Pray that the 2 weeks we have to get it done, is perfect and that we get it back when we come back to the states!

"Satan can't stop us unless he kills us, Mexico here we come! The trailer is in Abilene getting fixed, and the van is in Dallas getting fixed... Holy crazy....

"If anyone wants to donate to help us out with our trailer bill, you can do so by buying merch from our online store (that helps), or by donating directly through Paypal to: x712xdamx@hotmail.com"

Best Buy Gets "Chinese Democracy" Retail Exclusive

Best Buy is set to be the exclusive retailer for Guns N' Roses decade-plus-in-the-making new album "Chinese Democracy" before year's end, sources close to the situation tell Billboard. Some details of the deal are still being worked out, including the release date.

The news brings a semblance of closure to the bizarre history of "Democracy," which Guns N' Roses has been working on since the mid-1990s. Since then, every original member of the once mighty group has left besides vocalist Axl Rose, and millions of dollars have been spent working on the new material.

"Chinese Democracy" was most recently on the Interscope release schedule in March 2007. The endless delays encountered by the project reached comic levels this spring, when soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008.

In June, nine purported "mastered, finished" tracks from the album were leaked online, prompting an FBI investigation into their source. A sign "Chinese Democracy" was perhaps finally nearing release came in July, when the band agreed to debut new track "Shackler's Revenge" in the video game "Rock Band 2," which hit stores earlier this month.

Guns N' Roses is now managed by Irving Azoff's Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" through Wal-Mart in 2007, much to the chagrin of other merchants, but the album was a runaway hit, having sold 3.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Brian "Head" Welch Responds To Video Controversy

Former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch has responded to the controversy surrounding his latest solo video for "Flush" as well as reports that some stores are pulling his CD of their shelves in reaction to this video. Here's Welch's statement on the matter:

"I have received a handful of messages from some conservative people complaining about the sex and drug references in my new music video for FLUSH; and, I have recently learned that some select retailers are pulling my CD from their shelves because of my music video's content. So, I wanted to give an explanation of what the video means to me; and to address those select retailers that are pulling the CD from their shelves:

"The video for FLUSH is about Crystal Meth addiction and the crazy things anyone addicted to Meth will do while they're high or to get their fix. Everything the models were doing in the video is what I was wrapped up in while I was addicted to Meth. The video is a very realistic look at the addiction and where it will lead you if you get hooked. I understand the images of the models may be too much for some people, but honestly, I was just trying to be real with what happened in my life and show where I was, as well as where I am at now. As I Lay Dying Wins at San Diego Music Awards

AS I LAY DYING won the award for Artist of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards, which took place Wednesday September 17th. AS I LAY DYING was on hand to receive the award for Artist of the Year and also preformed the track "The Sound of Truth" off their latest release, "An Ocean Between Us," which scanned nearly 40,000 units its first week out in the USA and landed at #8 on our Billboard Top 200 charts – the highest rock debut on the chart that week. In Germany the album entered the official album Charts on position 24, in Austria #33 and in Switzerland #43.

Here’s what the band has to say about their recent win:
“Once again both our fans and San Diego prove to be best! This award means a lot to us because we take so much pride in our home town, but also because it is open to be voted on by the fans. Every year that we've won seems to be a little bit of shock to the greater music community because we've always been up against major label Gold selling artists from what are typically known as "more accessible" genres. Well, none of that matters when it comes time for the diehard fans to make their voices heard. Thank you so much both AILD fans and San Diego! This is our third time winning Artist of the Year!”

My Bitter End Members Give Band Update

My Bitter End drummer Mike Ranne has issued an update regarding the band's status:

"We've been receiving alot of messages about people wanting to know what's going on ith MBE. For those of you who haven't read our most recent blog, Hank and myself now play full-time with Through The Eyes Of The Dead and are currently on the last week of the 'bang you head till we raise the dead' tour with Whitechapel, Impending Doom, and A Different Breed Of Killer. It's been amazing to say the least but back to the subject at hand. MBE will never be 'done' or 'dead'... we simply just can't be a full-time band anymore since all the key members now live in different states. We all keep in contact regularly and we always talk about doing some shows here and there because we love playing this music, but unfortunately because the economy is the way it is and because of some other things I won't get into detail with. We just can't tour, which sucks, but if you got to catch us on any of our previous runs, props. and thanks. Anyways, just wanted to say what's good and fill some people in on things. Hope everyone is doing lovely. come see me and Hank on tour if we're rolling through the area you live in."

Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour Planned For Next Summer

Led Zeppelin is planning a full tour for next summer, with singer Robert Plant set to rejoin the band, according to reports in The Sun today (September 26).

Despite their massively-successful reunion gig at London's O2 Arena last winter, the band has so far declined to confirm whether they will plan any more shows together.

Initially, it was believed that singer Plant was against a full tour with the band.

However, today's report claims that Plant is now ready to join guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham in rehearsals for a tour set to start next summer.

An unnamed source told the newspaper: "He [Plant] realised he couldn't face the thought of not being involved. The band were over the moon when he told them the news."

Mumakil Begins Work On New Album

Switzerland’s MUMAKIL recently entered the studio to begin work on their Relapse debut.

The follow-up to MUMAKIL’s debut full-length, "Customized Warfare," is being recorded in the band’s hometown of Geneva. MUMAKIL drummer Sebastien Schacher recently checked-in from the studio with an update: “We have finished with the drum, bass, and guitar tracks and will begin with vocals next. This new album will be even more brutal, faster, and 'punkier' than our first CD Customized Warfare. There will be less 'groovy-brutal-death' parts but more dark and crusty riffs supported by fast blast-beat attacks. We rather chose to propose the punk and brutal side of our music. The album we be titled 'Behold the Failure' and it will be a kind of an anthem to our great world in perdition.“

MUMAKIL has written roughly 26 new tracks for "Behold The Failure." Advance song titles include “Doomed”, “Brothers In Slavery”, “Black Sheep”, “Wish You The Worst”, “Mass Murder Institution”, and “Pigs On Fire”. "Behold The Failure" will see a Spring 2009 release date.

MUMAKIL has announced a number of November and December tour dates in Switzerland and France. A listing of dates and cities can be found with more to be announced soon. MUMAKIL has also recently released three new tracks via the Relapse Records Slimewave 7” series and CD compilation. You can get more information on this series here.

Here are the latest MUMAKIL tour dates:

November 22 - Geneva, Switzerland @ l’Ecurie
November 26 - Aarau, Switzerland @ Kiff (w/ Cryptopsy, Beneath The Massacre)
December 13 - Bern, Switzerland @ Improvisorium
December 20 - Belfort, France @ la Poudriere (w/ Blockheads, Knut)
