Signings
- Altanta, Georgia's Mastodon have signed with Relapse Records. Mastodon includes ex-members of Today Is The Day, Lethargy, and Social Infestation. The band's debut MCD "Lifesblood" will be available in late August. The album's tracklisting: "Shadows That Move," "Welcoming War," "We Built This," Come Death," "Hail To Fire," and "Battle At Sea."
- HALO signs to Relapse Records. HALO is R. Allen & S. Klein from Australia. Halo create 'maximum post-industrial noisecore dirge.' Some have compared them to a bastardised mixture of early Swans, Godflesh, Disembowelment, and Neurosis. HALO's "Guattari (From the West Flows Grey Ash & Pestilence)" will be available in September.
- Israeli band Rabies Caste have signed to Earache Records. They will release new album 'Let the Soul Out And Cut The Vain' in August. It was produced by Harvey Birrell (Therapy?, Dub War).
Eminem Dunks Bizket Duo
Fred Durst and DJ Lethal are branded 'cowards' and 'wussies' by Eminem in a song called 'Girls', which will appear on the album 'Devil's Night' from his pals D12. Exactly why Durst and Lethal have earned the ire of the man formerly known as Marshall Mathers remains confusing. However, expect the Limp chaps to respond - which seems to be the norm in these cases.
I know it's not metal - I just thought it was funny... Don't we love to bust on the Limp Shitstick?
Metal Phone Tunes
Iron Maiden fans can now download tones based on the band's most popular songs for use on their mobile phones. You can find out further info on how to annoy everyone on the train or bus through either www.ironmaiden.com or www.songtones.com
Actually SongTones.com has some really good metal tunes. Check it out and listen to the samples just for entertainment!
UPDATED: A search on "phone tones" on Yahoo turns up some good sites for mobile phone rings. My Ericson only supports two custom rings, so I have Pantera's "I'm Broken" and the Imperial March from Star Wars...Kick ass!
Machine Head Mix New Album
Machine Head have selected Colin Richardson, who worked with the band on their first two albums, to mix the new album 'Supercharger'. Due for release in September, 'Supercharger' was recorded with producer Johnny K. And the band will play dates in Korea and Japan in August, warming up for a supercharged world tour.
Staind Remains #1
Staind keeps hold of its No. 1 position with 'Break the Cycle' moving another 326,299 units. Although, it's really no surprise this album is doing so well now that I've heard it. It's very mellow and could hardly be considered metal, even with the few good grooves they have in it. Don't get me wrong, I like the album a lot, but Staind has pulled a Deftones with their follow-up release.
