Headline News
Dissed By DIST 2001
Sweden's DIST 2001 Festival, which was scheduled to take place July 20-21 and was set to feature live appearances by In Flames, Dark Tranquility, The Crown and Evergrey (among others), has been cancelled. According to the festival's organizers, the cancellation is due to several reasons, including a "lack of interest from visitors at similar events during the spring, organizational problems within the festival management, and that it should be fun to organize an event especially if it is on voluntary basis, which it apparently was not.
Slipknot To Help Chuck S.
Slipknot is the latest band to have offered their assistance in raising money to help Death/Control Denied mainman Chuck Schuldiner battle a malignant brain tumor that he was diagnosed with two years ago. Slipknot will contribute an as-yet-unspecified item to an ongoing auction that is being held via Allbeat.com for the specific purpose of helping Schuldiner's family pay his medical bills.
"I'm gonna try to find something from my personal collection that maybe nobody can find," Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor said. "When I found out Chuck had cancer I was freaking. Chuck's music was really important to me growing up. It was really intricate and interesting. So I wanna auction something that's really cool that can hopefully bring in top dollar."
Chuck Billy Status Update
Straight from Testament's official site, Testament Legions:
Chuck Billy says "Hello!" and wanted me to let you know he is doing well and adapting to the treatment for cancer. Though he's lost some of his hair, he has yet to feel the most common side-effects of the chemo (HE'S TOUGH!). Chuck said that all your prayers and well wishes have helped considerably, and he believes it had a lot to do with the good prognosis.
Also, Chuck wants everyone to know how touched he and his family are by the kindness and generosity of some of the greatest musicians coming together for a good cause. "THRASH OF THE TITANS" will surely be a once in a lifetime event, so DON'T MISS IT! Besides being a "metalhead's dream", this benefit is to raise people's awareness of this terrible disease. As you've heard, a portion of the proceeds will go to help another brother, Chuck Schuldiner. United we can fight this disease!
As always, best wishes to both Chucks.
