Pit Stories: Chill Out Fucker!
Happy Tuesday metal heads! It's officially our first Pit Story of the new year!
We're kicking the 2017 edition of the column off with a tale of an overly-rowdy fan who managed to get himself ejected... by the band itself!
Charlie Dowzell from U.K. doom group Sail shared this tale about an unfortunate fan being called out mid-show by none other than the Melvins:
A couple of years ago we went to see the Melvins in the Exchange, Bristol. Fantastic venue and very small indeed - 200 folks tops, I think. The place went absolutely mental when they came on and the vibe stayed at an all-time high - they were loud as all hell and played banger after banger.
Near the end of their set they played 'The Bit' and the already pumped-up crowd somehow became even wilder, which was ace. This is where things fall apart a little. Somebody was clearly 'in the zone' as it were, and King Buzzo must have thought it too much - admittedly I think the guy was beginning to knock people down and maybe actually hurt them, I'm not overly sure.
Next thing I know, the band have stopped mid-song and this guy gets a royal bollocking from King Buzzo, who told him to 'chill out, fucker!' to a rapturous applause. Tail between his legs, this guy yells out 'I'm sorry!' to which Buzz tells him he doesn't care that he's sorry, and wants him gone.
Think they ejected him from the venue, and on went one of the most intense and fantastic shows of my life. That will always stay with me as something so powerfully surreal and very funny. 'Chill out, fucker!' indeed.
Sail's new album "Slumbersong" is being prepped for a March 10th, 2017 release via Hibernacula Records. Check out a track off the release below. More...

“Lost & Found” is another hooky hard rock track with heavy punk influence, a remixed version of Vitne’s 2015 single of the same name. Both tracks feature the lead guitar work of glam metal guitarist Julian Angel, wrapped up in mixing and mastering by Crematory’s Rolf Munkes.
Doro Posts Lemmy Tribute
A year ago Motorhead fronter and rock legend Lemmy Kilmister passed away and his death marked the end of an era of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.
While fans all over the world raised their Jack and Coke glasses on December 28th to mark the anniversary of his passing, metal queen Doro came up with a special idea to celebrate the life and legacy of her colleague and very close friend.
In this new video to the song "It Still Hurts: that she recorded with Lemmy in 2012, you can find the clip footage and many pictures of several decades from both metal legends working together and sharing the spirit of heavy music.
Doro comments: "It's been exactly one year since the world of rock lost on of its greatest characters - and one of my best friends. Lemmy Kilmister. One year and we miss him so much.
"Therefore it was our great wish to release this video with a compilation of our greatest moments that we had together. Here it is. In memory of Lemmy, one of the greatest rock'n'roll heroes!
It still hurts! R.I.P., my dear friend - we love you." More...

Altar Of Betelgeuze Reveals New Album Details
Finnish metal band Altar Of Betelgeuze will release "Among The Ruins" via Transcending Obscurity Records on April 15th, 2017. The track listing and title track are available below, while Transcending Obscurity had this to say:
"Altar Of Betelgeuze is onto something special. Not content with playing either doom or death metal, the band merge influences from both realms so to speak and create a seamless sound where clean singing and growls both have a place.
"Essentially Altar Of Betelgeuze plays stoner doom but with the heaviness and relative structuring of death metal. Long, winding songs that are at once emotive and crushing enthrall the listener for extended periods of time, while you are left wondering about suitable parallels for this unique band. 'Among the Ruins' is a definitive present-day album, when it's no longer about mimicking your idols but taking the sound forward in a logical, sincere manner."

Pain Of Salvation Gives "Reasons" In New Video
Swedish progressive rock/metal innovators Pain of Salvation released a video clip for the new song "Reasons." The song appears on the much anticipated new studio album "In the Passing Light of Day,' which will be released on Friday the 13th of January, 2017 via longtime label partners InsideOutMusic.
On "Reasons" the band commented: "We are proud to present the second video from our upcoming album 'In the Passing Light of Day.' It's a hard and complex track, but is somehow catchy enough to make people go around humming it hours after they've heard it. I left one of the early demos in my car over the weekend, and the next week I heard my kids hum it while they were playing app games on their phones. Or, as Daniel Bergstrand put it, 'It's awesome - it's so catchy that you can't resist singing it, but it drives you crazy because at the same time you can't grasp the weird rhythms enough to do it right!' hahaha. The video is a bit different too, because I'm in it, but with all my clothes on and not having sex with anyone or even holding severed body parts of any kind. How weird is that? For those who think that's just too meek, I can offer some comfort to that, by revealing that four of us were bleeding after only two or three takes of the video. Who was the one who didn't bleed? That's a mystery for you to solve and discuss. 'Because I hate every motherfucking word you say!'
"Lyrically the song is about the harshest lows of a long-term relationship, but also a dark satire about true and deep loyalty and love - the kind that will not perish in any flame but just come out twice as strong. It's like a long and true friendship - it can withstand a little bit of conflict, dislike, or even hate, every now and then through the year, without going out. At least if the conflicts are shared and mutual, brought out in the open and dealt with with courage and truth. So, at the surface, it may first seem like a lyric about hate, but as you delve deeper into the philosophy of it, and if you pay attention to the small lyrical signs towards the end, you'll understand that it is a story about a strong love."
