Y&T Pulls Out Of Saxon Tour
American hard rockers Y&T has announced that they have been forced to withdraw from the upcoming Saxon European tour due to vocalist/guitarist Dave Meniketti's back injury, as he is adhering to his doctor's advice and giving himself the necessary time to heal and recover. Their place will be taken by British rock veterans FM, while heavy metal heroes Raven will also be on board.
Says Dave: "It is with great disappointment that I announce Y&T's decision to withdraw from Saxon's upcoming fall Europe/UK tour. As many of you already know, I severely injured my back in July and have been under the care of a sports doctor/back specialist ever since. After I received two rounds of cortisone injections to reduce the inflammation, we all had high hopes I'd get "back on the field" in time for this tour. But as many people know, recovering from this kind of back injury takes time.
"Given the advice of my doctor and the urging of everyone around me, really, the only course of action for my long-term health is to stay home and properly complete my recovery. This decision has weighed heavily on me - and believe me, I'd much rather be on tour playing for all of you - but getting on an 11-hour flight and sitting for five weeks on drives of up to 10+ hours every day in a van traveling 11,000 miles/18,000 km would be a reckless approach at this stage of my recovery. I can't risk another setback like I experienced last month when I played a show against my doctor's advice.
"I apologize to the fans and to our buddies in Saxon for any inconveniences and disappointments that this has caused. We're big fans of Saxon and consider them to be one of the best live straight-ahead rock bands out there, so we're all disappointed to miss what surely would've been a great time on tour with them.
"For my part, and for Y&T going forward, I'm on the mend and can't wait to get back up on stage later this year. To our amazing fans in Europe and the UK, again, my apologies. We'll be back in 2019."

Witherfall Reveals New Album Details
US dark melodic metal masters Witherfall will release the highly anticipated follow-up to 2017’s "Nocturnes And Requiems" on November 2nd. Now, the band is proud to reveal the first song from "A Prelude To Sorrow."
“‘Ode To Despair” was the first composition that was completed for A Prelude To Sorrow so it only seems fitting to start off with this track. Its origin traces back to around 2016 when we were figuring out what to do with Sagan being sick and unable to perform. Fueled by red wine and only a glimmer of the sorrow that was to come ‘Ode’ took only one writing session to complete. The video was shot over the two month span that we were in the studio tracking A Prelude To Sorrow and watching the video brings you into the world we inhabited for what seems like an eternity... Special thanks to Don Adams and his masochistic tendencies and keen editor’s eye. Stay tuned for more...,'" comments the band.
On "A Prelude To Sorrow," main songwriters Joseph Michael (vocals, Sanctuary – live) and Jake Dreyer (Iced Earth) succeeded in perfectly combining the group’s technical proficiency with an appropriate eerie and somber atmosphere, manifesting also in Kristian Wåhlin’s majestic cover painting. For mix and mastering, Witherfall again worked with Chris “Zeuss” Harris (Sanctuary, Queensryche, Iced Earth) and “Ode To Despair” is just a mere glimpse at the depth and quality, the album holds within. Report
An Evening With Acid Reign's Howard H. Smith
And now for something completely different. We almost exclusively report on live shows at Metal Underground, but every now and then, there's an event which calls out to us and our love of metal which doesn't see a guitar strummed or a drum beat. This evening at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden, London, Howard H. Smith, comedian and frontman of one of Britain's most beloved thrash metal bands, Acid Reign, was joined by a few dozen people to hear his stories of the heyday of thrash and life in a metal band.
It's difficult to talk about a spoken word set without giving away much or spoiling the material, which I certainly don't want to do. H opened up with humour and a genuine likability, which made the anecdotes not just entertaining, but relatable and therefore, touching. Anyone who's ever been in a band will find a connection in his recollection of Acid Reign's formation, gigs and internal problems, the last of which he covers respectably by refusing to bring anybody's name into the negative aspects. Gama Bomb Posts New Music Video Online
Irish thrash outfit Gama Bomb have released the video for new single "Bring Out The Monster," which introduces the band’s new mascot. The fist-pounding track is the second single from the band’s sixth album Speed Between The Lines, out October 12th on AFM Records.
The video takes inspiration from classic movies like Harvey and Donnie Darko, featuring frontman Philly Byrne and the band’s new mascot ‘Snowy’ The Gamabombinable Snowman as his imaginary friend.
"As fans, we love the theatricality of classic metal shows,’ says frontman Philly Byrne. ‘Dio’s dragon, Motorhead’s bomber and of course Eddie - those things made gigs come to life and leap off the stage, and we wanted to bring that back. We take our music seriously, but we don’t take ourselves seriously and we want our shows to be as much as fun as possible. How do you fight the tide of drab metal? We thought the best solution was to hire a seven foot-tall, alcoholic Yeti to ruin our gigs."
"Speed Between The Lines’" cover art was created by New York-based artist Jarred Hageman AKA Chrome And Lightning and Rory McGuigan (Villagers) and the album was produced by longtime GAMA BOMB collaborator Scott Atkins (Cradle of Filth, Sylosis).
The digital single’s cover is inspired by vintage paperback novels.
"Speed Between The Lines," released by AFM Records on October 12th 2018, is the sixth studio album from the band in 16 years. The album will be available as CD, clear yellow gatefold Vinyl (ltd. to 250 units), turquoise gatefold Vinyl (ltd. to 250 units), clear/red gatefold and vinyl red/black splatter (ltd. to 100 units) which is exclusively available in the AFM webshop.
