My Bitter End Calls It Quits

Middletown, New York band My Bitter End (Uprising Records) has broken up. Here's a statement from the group:

"It was five years, we had a great time. Thanks to anyone and everyone who supported us. We're unfortunately not going to be a part of the upcoming 'Unforgivable Tour' as we originally planned. There most likely won't be a farewell show either, since half the band now lives in Florida and the other still in New York. We have personally just grown apart and need to move on to other things. We want to thank Sean Muttaqi, Jon King, all at Uprising Records, and all the bands/people we've met along the way. It's been a pleasure, look for some of us in new projects."

The band previously went on hiatus in June and cancelled a number of tour dates later in the summer with hopes to participate in the "Unforgivable Tour" with Bloodjinn, The Classic Struggle, and The Demonstration this fall.

Still Remains Frontman Talks About Going Melodic

Stephanie Stevens, aka “Romperchic”, of THE DAILY ROCK recently had the chance to chat with frontman TJ Miller of STILL REMAINS before their show at The Palladium in Worcester MA during the band’s tour with AIDEN. T.J. was a bit broken from an exciting night onstage in Chicago where he badly hurt his foot, so Mr. T.J. “Cane” Miller hobbled to his van to discuss his personal lyrics, how he approaches his career as a singer and to give some incite on the new album THE SERPENT.

TJ, on his approach to the vocals during the writing & recording explains “I think that with this album it was more figuring out who we are but at the same time, instead of us saying we want to change this, we want to change that, it wasn’t like that, it was just us growing as musicians and singers. So, it’s one of those things where I’ve sang my whole life and I’m very passionate about singing but I’ve never had the opportunity to sing a lot with STILL REMAINS. This is my only band as I don’t have any side projects at all, so it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, in the past we haven’t really written the music where I could really experiment. This time around, the things that they were writing were more melodic and more suggestive that I could sing, so I saw a great opportunity for myself and I went for it.”

Scum of the Earth Reveals "Sleaze Freak" Details

SCUM OF THE EARTH, fronted by former Rob Zombie guitarist, Riggs, is gearing up for another explosive assault with SLEAZE FREAK, the follow up to 2004's critically acclaimed BLAH...BLAH...BLAH...LOVE SONGS FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM, which spawned the band’s first hit single, “Get Your Dead On.”

A long time in the making, SLEAZE FREAK will be released October 23 on Eclipse Records, just in time for Halloween. Riggs' comrades in Scumdom are Brandon (bass, background vocals), Skylar (guitar), and Adrian Ost (drums).

“Bombshell From Hell” is SLEAZE FREAK’s first single, which is going for radio adds October 15. A performance video for the track—directed by Ron Najor (Angels & Airwaves)--was recently shot in Los Angeles and should invade TV and Internet airwaves within the next couple of weeks.

SLEAZE FREAK—which was written and produced by Riggs--contains 13 new songs (including “I Am Monster,” “Macabro Expectaculo” and “Corpse Grinders”), a cover and 28-page full-color booklet with exclusive artwork by self-proclaimed “Freakazoid” artist Paul Garner, plus a bonus 30-minute DVD packed with unbridled, no-holds-barred confessions by Riggs, featuring behind-the-scenes footage of Riggs and the band. Myspace.com diva and metal goddess, Metal Sanaz, also appears on the DVD, recording her vocals on “Love Pig.” She’s been posting video blogs of the band from recording sessions shot at Studio 2100 in Springfield, MO since June.

Most of the songs on the new album were recorded with Riggs' one-of-a-kind "Skin" guitar. It's a custom Fernandes Vertigo guitar wrapped in real pigskin that’s been sewn together. Riggs is planning to have various artists tattoo the pigskin in the future. Two tattoos currently decorate the guitar: one of a skull and crossbones and one with the words “fuck you” along the top which only Riggs can see when he’s playing the guitar.

“I wanted it to look like ‘Leatherface’ from ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre,’ except on a guitar,” explains Riggs. “I’ll have it forever, so I’m planning on having a bunch of artists put tattoos on it. Hopefully it’ll be a few years before it starts to fall apart, although it’s already starting to smell and rot a little. But it’s still cool. It also kind of looks like Freddy Kruger’s face.”

He is also the owner and creator of another one-of-a-kind guitar made by Fernandes--a lucite one filled with fake blood, which can be seen in the “Bombshell From Hell” video. “I put it together with the president of Fernandes years ago,” says Riggs. “We messed around with water to make sure it wouldn’t spill out when I played it. It sounds amazing.”

The new music, 13 tracks of searing stripper-metal, capitalizes on the same formula which worked perfectly on BLAH...BLAH...BLAH..., but with more guitar solos, slick, percussive bass lines and Riggs' trademark blood-steeped lyrics. The first single, “Bombshell From Hell,” flaunts a hard-driving, instrumentally lacerating sound, which screams out to the world, letting us know that SCUM OF THE EARTH are unleashed and getting their dead on once again.

For Riggs, making music with SCUM OF THE EARTH is like bringing things full circle, many times over. As he explains, “It’s hard starting over again, because I’ve been in bands for 17 years. I started off as a teenager in the band Screw in 1990. We even got to do our first record with Ministry, who were recording in the same studio as us. Then I was in Prong for about a year before meeting Rob Zombie and joining his band. I went from sleeping in a van to a huge tour bus, back to a van and now I own my own tour bus! After I left Rob’s band I knew I had to start over again. I’m excited to have SCUM OF THE EARTH as my very own and I’m anxious to get out there and promote the hell out of our music. It’s such a good feeling to know that I don’t have to answer to anyone anymore except myself.”

Lizzy Borden To Film New Video This Weekend

LIZZY BORDEN will film a video this weekend for the song "Tomorrow Never Comes".

The clip, which will be shot on location in downtown Los Angeles with director Kevin Mcvey, is described as "a haunted little tale."

This will be the first video from the band's forthcoming album, "Appointment with Death", due in the U.S. on October 30 via Metal Blade Records (November 5 in Europe). Appearing in the clip will be bandmembers Lizzy Borden, Joey Scott, Marten Andersson and Ira Black.

"Appointment with Death" was produced by Lizzy Borden and Joey Scott. It was recorded at the Zanzibar studios in N. Hollywood CA and was mixed by Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, ex-MORBID ANGEL) at Mana sound in Florida

Like all past Lizzy Borden recordings, "Appointment with Death" is a conceptual piece; this concept is centered around the theme of, as the title implies, death.

Commented Lizzy: "Oddly enough, writing eleven songs about death was no easy task for me; lyrically being graphic or grotesque would have been too easy, and being overly morbid would bring nothing new to the concept. I wrote this just like I have all of the other LB recordings, as a play or a movie. There is a beginning, middle and an end with the lead character taking us on a journey. Death is all around us, lurking, waiting to pounce, striking fear and antagonizing the living in many different ways, I tried to explore some of those ways in the most poetic way that I know how."

The music on "Appointment with Death" was composed by Lizzy, Ira Black, Marten Andersson and Joey Scott and is epic, heavy, dark and melodic — everything a traditional LIZZY BORDEN recording should be and more. With new guitarist Ira Black along with Marten Andersson on bass and co/founder Joey Scott on the drums, the LIZZY BORDEN sound has evolved into a multi-dimensional ever-lasting-gobstopper working just as well in an ipod as it has always done on stage.

Said Lizzy: "These musicians are more then just special guests, they all, each in their own original way helped to create this work of fiction and bring 'Appointment with Death' to life."

Musicians appearing on the CD:

Lizzy (LIZZY BORDEN)
Joey Scott (LIZZY BORDEN)
Marten Andersson (LIZZY BORDEN, GEORGE LYNCH)
Ira Black (LIZZY BORDEN, METAL CHURCH)
George Lynch (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB)
Dave Meniketti (Y & T)
Corey Beaulieu (TRIVIUM)
Jonas Hansson (SILVER MOUNTAIN)
Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, ex-MORBID ANGEL)
Michael T. Ross (ANGEL, HARDLINE)
Adam Cameron
Zane
Marliese Quance

Robert Plant Rules Out Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour

According to Gigwise.com, frontman ROBERT PLANT has ruled out hopes of a full LED ZEPPELIN reunion tour.

It had been hoped that the band would extended their one-off show at London’s O2 Arena on November 26th to allow more people to see the veteran rockers make their comeback.

Plant has now definitely ruled out the prospect of more dates, however, saying: “We need to do one last great show, because we've done some shows and they've been crap."

The frontman also told the Daily Express that he’s planning to take it easy after the tribute show for Ahmet Ertegun.

"I know I'm getting on. When I do come back from touring I'm shocked to find a lot of my mates tend to be going to bed far too early and that means I should probably be doing the same. Maybe I should stop having a good time and get old," the singer confessed.

Almost twenty million people applied for tickets to the band’s show in London. Successful applicants will be notified by October 1st.

Children Of Bodom Schedule London Date

C.O.B. fan-site Scythes Of Bodom recently following update from bassist Henkka T. Blacksmith:

"Up to now, the band has seven finished songs and they will enter a studio in the second week in October to record the album. The plan is to record nine songs for the album and maybe even a tenth if the guys are satisfied with another song that is currently in the works. Most likely 'Tie My Rope' will be re-recorded and the band is planning to record three or four cover songs which are already confirmed. This doesn't mean that all of them will be featured on one album, but these songs will be used as bonus tracks for different areas and markets such as Japan for example.

Henkka also revealed a few working titles of the songs. The band uses simple working titles like 'Eka', 'Bläkkis', 'Trioli', 'Trabant', 'Uusin' (in English: 1. 'First', 2. 'Blacky', 3. 'Triplet', 4. 'Trabant', 5. 'Newest') during the songwriting process. Of course they shouldn't be taken seriously. It wasn't easy for Henkka to say how the songs sound like but he kept saying that he is very excited about the new material.

In addition he said that nobody should expect the second part of COB TV anytime soon because footage of the recording sessions in October will also be featured in it (of course only the lesser serious part of it). In reply to my question if the four recorded demo tracks, that the band recorded in May at Sonic Pump Studios, could be used as bonus tracks, Henkka answered that there are no plans for that. However, after thinking about it, he said that it wouldn't be a bad idea to use them for that if they sound much different than the final album versions.

Again Alexi (Laiho) made a guest appearance on the album of a Finnish band. He played a solo in the song 'Don't Come Back' on the album H8 of the metal band GODSPLAGUE. He's also featured with a few backing vocals on the album. The release date was September 5th.

After the official release date of the long awaited Unholy Alliance DVD has been set to October 30th, the tracklist has been revealed in the meantime. Children Of Bodom are only featured with two live songs: 'In Your Face' and 'Angels Don't Kill', so there's gonna be something fast and something slow. The DVD was filmed on last year's Unholy Alliance tour in Vancouver, Canada on July 13th."

The Foreshadowing Post More New Music Online

Italian gothic-doom band THE FORESHADOWING has posted a sample of the song "Death is our Freedom" plus the ful-length track "Departure" on the group's MySpace page. Both cuts come off THE FORESHADOWING's debut album, "Days of Nothing", due on October 22 via Candlelight Records. The CD cover artwork was created by Seth Siro Anton (PARADISE LOST, CALIBAN, ROTTING CHRIST, VADER).

According to a press release, "'Days of Nothing' is THE FORESHADOWING's first chapter of apocalypse. The band combines ambient and epic atmospheres with powerful guitar riffs into 10 tracks of melodic doom metal reminding MY DYING BRIDE, KATATONIA and ANATHEMA basing on the concept of the monotony of life, waiting for the apocalypse that is to come." THE FORESHADOWING's aim, says the band, "is to bring you into an atom-sphere of apocalyptic tragedy and alienation from humanity and everyday life with a moody and powerful music. We don't feel part of this world and we don't need to believe in any creed, convention or lifestyle. We just wait for a right end of this wrong and cruel world."

To-Mera To Support Fates Warning In London

TO-MERA, the U.K.-based dark progressive metal band formed by former WITHOUT FACE vocalist Julie Kiss (photo) and bassist Lee Barrett (ex-EXTREME NOISE TERROR, DISGUST, MUSSOLINI HEADKICK), will support FATES WARNING on November 21 at The Underworld, Camden, England.

In other news, TO-MERA has finished recording the follow-up to last year's "Transcendental" and is currently mixing the effort for a February 18, 2008 release. "We are again working with Brett Caldas-Lima from Tower Studios," says Barrett. "The process of recording, including photos and video clips, was captured in this blog."

Regarding the new CD's musical direction, Barrett said, "All the elements present on the last album have been greatly expanded upon. The music will display a much greater range of moods, tempos and dynamics (ranging from fragile subtlety to epic bombast via everything in between), whilst being simultaneously more sophisticated, yet more melodic and coherent than before. Julie's vocals have become substantially more versatile and powerful. There will be loads more guitar and keyboard (even drum!) solos. But most importantly, we feel this music has a much deeper and more genuine emotional impact to it. We're hoping the finished album will capture that."
