Gojira Frontman Comments On Playing With Cavaleras
Guitarist/vocalist Joe Duplantier of the French progressive death metallers GOJIRA will play bass on the debut CD from the new project featuring SEPULTURA founding members Max and Igor Cavalera. Recordings for the album began this past weekend in Los Angeles with producers Dirty Icon (Logan Mader [ex-MACHINE HEAD, SOULFLY] and Lucas Banker). A late 2007 release via Roadrunner Records is expected.
Commented Duplantier: "Playing with Max and Igor is like living a dream, I've always had so much respect for their musical achievements; it is an incredible personal experience for me."
In a recent interview posted on SOULFLY's official web site, Max stated about his collaboration with Igor, "I think it's sounding like a combination of things I've done with NAILBOMB and SEPULTURA, and even SOULFLY, of course, but these songs are coming to be more live on the spot. I recorded some simple four-tracks for a lot of them, similar to the ones that people may have heard through the SOULFLY MySpace, and I sent out a CD to everybody about a month ago with like 10 songs, but at that time I didn't even know exactly who else I'd be working with in the project. I knew that Igor would be doing drums and percussion, and I'd be doing vocals and guitar. Now Marc Rizzo is going to be playing lead guitar and and the [guitarist] and vocalist from GOJIRA will help us out to give it a bit of a different vibe. I like GOJIRA a lot — they're a fucking kick-ass band. It's a special album for me because it's a very global group of musicians. One from France [from GOJIRA], one from the U.S., and two from Brasil. I think that's going to add something very cool, even trippy, and definitely my style."
Wednesday 13 And Trashlight Vision To Tour
WEDNESDAY 13 will team up with his former MURDERDOLLS bandmate Acey Slade and Acey's TRASHLIGHT VISION band for a U.S. tour in October.
"I am very excited to be hitting the road with Acey and TRASHLIGHT VISION," stated Wednesday 13. "On our current run, we had a show in New York City and Acey came to hang out. After many hours and many memories relived, we decided we should just get out on the road together. I had planned to take the month of October off, but this rock and roll circus needs to keep on moving! The October run will be very special for us — we will be bringing out all of our monster, Halloween-themed songs and have a new live stage show to match. The tour will consist of four bands. We always want to tour with some friends, but sometimes they can't afford a month-long tour, so we are going to invite some of our friends out to be the opening band and stay on the road for a few days. We are still looking for the perfect second band to share the tour with us and TLV!"
Commented Acey Slade: "A week or so ago, Wed and the gang blew out New York City like a F5 hurricane. At the after party we all talked and drank 'till the dawn. Right before Wed had to crawl back in his coffin he said, 'Hey, Acey, what are you doin' for Halloween? We should do a tour!' And that was that! Be prepared for a Halloween you won't soon forget!"
The tour will hit 20 to 30 markets. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.
Mustaine Talks About U.N. And Politics
Shawn Macomber of The American Spectator recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
On the United Nations:
"I'm sure the United Nations does some good stuff. I mean, they've got one of the most beautiful women in the world pushing rice in Darfur. But that's the irony of it all. They'll send those C130s over there full of supplies, drop it off and...the rebels get it. Deliver it all the way if you're going to deliver it. What good is it if it goes to the bad people? Then there are these allegations of women and children being raped by peacekeepers in Africa — the first time that happens it's a crime, the second time it is a travesty."
"Why doesn't Michael Moore do an expose on the UN? When I see Syria on the Security Council [in 2002-2003], am I supposed to feel secure? It's mad....They just rely on UNICEF, this one good thing they're doing, to cover up all the stuff that they're not doing, to put them beyond dissent. I'm not impressed. How long are they going to sit by and watch Hezbollah fire Katyusha rockets into Israel from Lebanon? That's a question I'd like answered."
On musicians making their political views public:
"People say musicians should stay out of politics, and I agree. But I'm a citizen, too. I love my country. When I went to cover the [1992] Democratic National Convention for MTV, I walked around like a respectable American who happened to be in the music business instead of like one of these idiots in a T-shirt that says 'F -- k Our President.'
"In a lot of ways, it doesn't matter. I can't tell you how condescending the look I got from John Kerry was when I walked up to interview him at the 1992 convention or the way Oliver Stone treated me. I was like, 'You know what? Don't let the hair fool you, guys.'"
On MEGADETH's early lyrical approach:
"I had labelmates when I was on Capitol Records like POISON who had songs like 'Talk Dirty to Me'. That never appealed to me. I wanted to do something that was a little bit more profound, even if I didn't really want a bunch of pontificators in the front row."

Celtic Frost Mainman Receives Unexpected Gift
CELTIC FROST mainman Tom Gabriel Fischer has posted this message on his official blog:
"In the course of the Giger Gang's gathering here in Switzerland on the occasion of the opening of the new H.R. Giger exhibition in Chur in early July, I was given a truly unexpected gift. Unbeknownst to me, the remarkable Eli Livingston, sculptor of Giger's and CELTIC FROST's jewelry amongst other things, had crafted a unique variation of my death mask after I left the United States in May. I am astonished and infinitely grateful."
Queensryche "Best Of" Tracklisting Announced
In a career that spans nearly 25 years, QUEENSRŸCHE has released 15 albums that have sold more than 20 million units around the world. On August 28, Capitol/EMI will release "Sign Of The Times: The Best Of Queensrÿche" in CD, 2-CD Collectors Edition packages and digitally. The new career-spanning hits collection features 17 of QUEENSRŸCHE's best singles and album tracks, including seven Top 10 mainstream rock hits, packaged in a jewel-case with a sixteen-page booklet featuring custom artwork, a discography, and track notes from the band's singer, Geoff Tate. The Collectors Edition, presented in deluxe digipak packaging, adds a second disc of 15 rare and previously unreleased demos, outtakes, remixes, live recordings, television performance audio, recordings for soundtracks and a new, never-before-heard song making its release debut on this collection.
"In an era that valued style over substance, QUEENSRŸCHE emerged as a contrary force to the happy-go-lucky sounds of hard rock in the late '80s and early '90s," explains Paul Gargano in his "Sign Of The Times" liner notes essay. "In hindsight, one might even go as far as to say that the band succeeded despite themselves. Whether knowingly or not, they zigged when the industry zagged, progressed while the scene regressed, and offered provocation while others opted for escapism. There's a subtle irony, then, that their best-of collection is called 'Sign Of The Times'."
Among "Sign Of The Times: The Best Of Queensrÿche"'s 17 hits and favorites are the #1 smash "Silent Lucidity", "Jet City Woman", "Eyes Of A Stranger", and "Another Rainy Night (Without You)", and more than a dozen other well-known songs. The 15 tracks on the Collectors Edition's rarities disc include three demo recordings by MYTH (lead vocalist Geoff Tate's band prior to QUEENSRŸCHE), three demo recordings from "The Warning", three bonus tracks from the reissued "Empire" album, bonus tracks from the reissued "Promised Land" and "Q2K" albums, an intoxicating live version of "Silent Lucidity", a previously unreleased version of "Della Brown" recorded for "MTV Unplugged", and a new track making its release debut, "Justified", recorded with original QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Chris DeGarmo.
Beginning September 5 in Binghamton, New York, QUEENSRŸCHE and ALICE COOPER will join Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice on the HEAVEN AND HELL Tour for a U.S. trek that is expected to continue through early November.

DOKKEN will perform on July 14 at one of the most talked-about music festivals this summer, Rocklahoma. The band is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on its upcoming release, "Lightning Strikes Again".
Commented DOKKEN guitarist Jon Levin: "We will be performing all of the hits at Rocklahoma on July 14th and perhaps a surprise or two as well. We are all very excited about the event and looking forward to seeing all the fans. Absolutely.
"I notice quite a few young fans in the audience now. Looks like its all coming around again.
"The record is coming along well and we are still aiming for September as a release. I think the fans will be happy with the record. It rocks! It 100% recaptures the DOKKEN sound and more.
"We are beginning the tour in Europe in September and I am looking forward to it. We are doing 25 shows there. After Europe, we will be touring the U.S. in the fall. Time to get excited...
"'Lightning Strikes Again' is slammin'."
"Lightning Strikes Again" will be released via Rhino Records in the U.S. and Frontiers Records in Europe. Metallica Fans Complain To BBC
BBC has revealed that 413 people complained when METALLICA's set was cut short during the Live Earth concert broadcast on Saturday (July 7).
METALLICA played "Sad but True" and "Nothing Else Matters" before Jonathan Ross interrupted them to introduce a recording of "Weather With You" by CROWDED HOUSE from Live Earth in Sydney.
According to EnjoyFrance.com, far less people watched the Live Earth concerts on BBC television than those who tuned in for Concert for Diana.
If all that wasn't bad enough, critics argued the Live Earth gigs themselves added to pollution of the world, and claimed that many of the celebrities involved were bad role models because they flew around the world, often accompanied by their entourages.
Professionally filmed video footage of METALLICA's three-song set as part of the Live Earth concert in London has been posted at YouTube:
"Sad But True": Video
"Nothing Else Matters": Video
"Enter Sandman": Video
The band played three songs instead of the scheduled four; "For Whom the Bell Tolls" was dropped, possibly due to time restrictions.
The Wembley Stadium Live Earth show was part of the 24-hour global series of concerts being held to raise awareness of global warming.

Sikth Forced To Cancel Weekend Gigs
SIKTH were forced to cancel this weekend's (July 7-8) shows in London and Brighton. They will be rescheduled and the tickets for the original dates will be honored.
Commented the band's frontman Mikee Goodman: "I have an inflamed throat caused by a throat virus I have had for over a month now. I tried lots of different medication throughout the month, and then booked an appointment in the ear, nose and throat specialist as soon as I could, which was this week. I was told by my doctor not to sing, shout or whisper for a week. I consulted my old vocal tutor and he agreed with the doctor saying that if I sing I will cause permanent damage to my vocal cords. I am so sorry to everyone and to all those who have travelled far to get to these shows. I really wanted to play this weekend. But did not want this to be the last show I ever sing at. Hope you understand and please come to the rest of the dates we are doing. Anyone who has tickets for Brighton or London more news will follow on rescheduled dates."

A Perfect Murder Breaks Up
After seven years together, and just a few weeks after the release of a new album, Canadian metal band A Perfect Murder has called it quits. The group has issued the following statement:
"A Perfect Murder is officially breaking up. There are a lot of things that could be discussed about but we don't wanna go that way. We'd like to think about all the good things music has bring to us over the last 7 years. We've met a lot of people, made a lot friends, traveled to places that we thought we would never go.
"1 Demo, 2 Ep's and 4 LPs later we are very proud to say that we, A Perfect Murder, has achieved something truly remarkable. We'd like to thanks the Quebec hardcore/Metal scene for all the support since we've started. This, also goes out to everybody that have supported us and helped us out over the last couple of years. Thank you so much.
"To all the great and not-so-great bands that we have played with. Thank you. Thanks to Mike Gaytan from Premonitions of war. You've done so much for us. Thanks to Mike, Manual and the SF Crew for saving our asses on tour more than once. We'll never forget. Thanks for Bouchard's parent for being a member of this band since the beginning, this would have never happen without your help. Never ending love. There are thousands of other people that we would like to thanks but the list would be too big.
"We also wanna thanks Victory Records for having believed in us since we signed with them. Cuz hate them or not, They are the reason why all of you out there know A Perfect Murder. That was a hell of ride. We are very proud of everything we've done. Even the mistakes. We have learn so much. So thanks to everybody once again and keep metal alive. You'll hear from some of us pretty soon."

Urkraft Track Featured In "Eat Shit And Die"

The 22 minute long film is due to have its first screening on the Danish TV-channel TV2 in December of this year, and with Urkraft forming part of the soundtrack it looks set to capture a snapshot of alternative youth culture today.
