Skindred Debuts "If I Could" Music Video

Widely recognised as one of the most exciting British rock bands in decades, Skindred won the award for Best Alternative Music Act at the MOBO Awards this week in Sheffield.

Reflecting on their win frontman Benji Webbe says: "To be nominated for a MOBO is such a massive deal for me and the boys in Skindred. I've been watching the MOBO’s since it started and always wondered why they didn’t have an alternative music category but last year that changed and was rectified with the Best Alternative Music Act added to the award ceremony. Not in my wildest dreams did I think Skindred would be at the MOBO’s but due to that new category we not only got nominated, but we actually won! As much as we were the band that’s been around the longest in this year’s nominees we weren’t guaranteed to actually win. So when the Nova Twins called our name at the ceremony we were all genuinely thrilled, buzzed and surprised. We have had so many well wishes and incredible messages of support & encouragement from all over the World. It is a great time to be in Skindred, it truly is!"

Drummer Arya Goggin adds: "We are both humbled and honoured to receive our MOBO Award. To be nominated was a dream come true, let alone actually win. I don’t think there are many bands that have won both a MOBO and a Metal Hammer award! This is what Skindred is all about."

To get a taste of why Skindred are such worthy winners of the award, check out the brand-new video for the single "If I Could," which premiered earlier today in association with Knotfest Australia. The band will be heading Down Under to perform at the legendary metal festival next month.

"If I Could" is taken from the band’s smash hit 2023 album "Smile" which entered the Official UK Album Chart at #2 in August and was garlanded with praise from critics and fans alike. The video showcases what a phenomenal live band Skindred are and features footage from various concerts and festivals last year, including their completely sold-out 2023 UK headlining tour. More...

Former Sabaton Guitarist Rejoins The Band

Swedish power metal giants Sabaton, who recently parted ways with guitarist Tommy Johansson, has revealed a familiar face as his replacement. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"We are beyond excited to announce that our former guitarist, Thobbe Englund, is rejoining the band and taking Tommy’s place!

"Thobbe originally joined us in April 2012 and decided to leave Sabaton in July 2016 to focus on his personal life and expand his creativity. We, of course, respected his decision and we parted ways amicably. Since then, we have been in constant contact with him over the years - he’s a really good friend to all of us! Eight years later, he’s back and ready to hit the global stage with us once more and we couldn’t be happier about it!

"Thobbe recorded two studio albums with us, namely 'Heroes' (2014) and 'The Last Stand' (2016), and assisted with the songwriting of some of our very popular songs including 'Shiroyama' and 'Fields Of Verdun', among others.

"As always thank you all for your unending support. It means the world to us. Here’s to a new era for Sabaton!"

Sabaton are currently recording their eleventh studio album. More...

My Dying Bride To Release New Album In April

British death-doom legends, My Dying Bride, are proud to announce their 15th studio album, "A Mortal Binding," set to be released on 19th April via Nuclear Blast Records. Today's news is accompanied by the release of tempestuous, heart-wrenching new single "Thornwyck Hymn." The track comes with a stunning video directed by Daniel Gray, depicting a maritime story of unfolding desire and tragedy.

My Dying Bride's Aaron Stainthorpe commented:

"Set upon the rugged coast of Yorkshire, Thornwyck village has spent an eternity being haunted by the chill waters that wash it’s shore – and the hidden folk who dwell in the salty depths.

"Woe betide anyone who fares into the briny sea, or even steels to close to it’s edge for they may never set foot back on mother earth."

"A Mortal Binding," the much-anticipated follow-up to "The Ghost Of Orion" (2020) finds the Yorkshire-based quintet delighting in anxiety, loss, and toil to resplendent effect. From the raw distress of "Her Dominion" and twisted horror of "Thornwyck Hymn" to the funerary violins of the 11-minute monolith "The Apocalyptist" and the classic-feeling "The 2nd of Three Bells," "A Mortal Binding" is pinnacle My Dying Bride. If "Songs of Darkness, Words of Light" (2004) elevated the band to new heights and "A Map Of All Our Failures" (2012) expanded upon the group’s mid-tens grandeur, then "A Mortal Binding" stages My Dying Bride’s next exultant phase of elegiac misery.

My Dying Bride hired "The Ghost Of Orion" studio wizard Mark Mynett to produce, mix, and master "A Mortal Binding." The group holed up at Mynett’s Mynetaur Productions (Paradise Lost, Rotting Christ) in Manchester, UK, where they tracked the album consecutively from July to September 2023. More...

Kerry King Added To Mystic Festival Line-Up

Kerry King, one of thrash metal's most iconic guitarists and a co-founder of the mighty Slayer, is finally back in the game. Album 'From Hell I Rise', announced for mid-May, opens a new solo chapter of his career. This doesn't mean, of course, that King will be alone on stage, as he has gathered a splendid line-up - he is accompanied on drums by his Slayer bandmate Paul Bostaph (also of Testament, Exodus and Forbidden), with Phil Demmel (known for Machine Head and Vio-Lence) playing second guitar and Kyle Sanders (Hellyeah) on bass. The voice of Kerry King's band is Mark Osegueda, well known to thrash fans from Death Angel. The music? Exactly what you'd expect from King - thrash straight from hell, a high-octane continuation of what he did in Slayer.

Mystic Festival will take place in Gdansk, Poland at the Gdansk Shipyard on June 5th through 8th, 2024.

Tickets are available now on the Mystic Festival homepage here More...
