With only seven shows to go on the band's current U.S. co-headlining arena tour alongside Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch will finish out the current trek with All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte filling in for frontman Ivan Moody, who has fallen ill.
Says Zoltan Bathory, guitarist of Five Finger Death Punch: "Ivan is our brother and we fully and wholeheartedly support him taking care of himself so he can get well as soon as possible. We discussed possibly canceling the remaining shows but the responses from the other bands on the tour were so overwhelmingly supportive that we decided to move forward and deliver the great night to the fans that they expect.”
Phil Labonte comments: “I got their six and stepped up right away. I’m honored to be able to help Five Finger Death Punch to finish their tour and give Ivan a chance to take care of himself. I did the same for Killswitch Engage years ago. I was humbled to get the call and get a chance to play in front of such a great audience.” More...
Day 3: Sunday 7/17/2016
The best part of being Cuban/Irish is that I'm tan year round but still shrivel up like bacon when exposed to too much sunlight. I had the nastiest sunburn ever which even days later had my forehead covered in acne and the skin on my nose flaking off. And after looking at myself in the mirror, the first two words that came to mind were, “worth it.” As somebody too perpetually broke to wear sunscreen and already shelling out ungodly amounts of money just to stay fed and hydrated, a sunburn was a rather small price to pay to continue to have a really great time.
Since my arctic camo shorts were completely drenched in beer, I decided that now was the time to break out an even more egregious pair of camo shorts. Neon green and black are a pattern that can't blend into any environment which is why I bought them in the first place. Just the most outrageous thing I could possibly own... and now I had an excuse!
I missed the first three acts since I got there late. I kept waking up later each morning due to the sheer quantity of alcohol I was drinking as my car needed engine repairs and that meant that I wasn't driving. That fact that the gates opened earlier with each passing day didn't help either since Gemini Syndrome started playing a full half hour earlier than Through Fire did on Friday. So I ultimately have no opinions on Gemini Syndrome, Upon a Burning Body or We Came As Romans and I'm not going to fabricate a story just for the sake of comprehensiveness. There are some videos on Youtube and I watched them but I still lack anything resembling an opinion since bootlegs can never compare to the real thing. More...
My biggest issue with metal in the 2010s is that in contrast to the past three decades, there's just a lack of creativity. Newer metalcore is being increasingly influenced by nu-metal and post-hardcore as the new musicians who are in their 20s and 30s are now playing music that's entirely an amalgam of what they grew up with as teens rather than creating anything new.
Blackgaze was novel for the first few years but now feels like the light beer version of black metal at this point that doesn't have the same edge that metal is supposed to have. I'm not sure if I want black metal to have a kinder, gentler, dare I say, “cuddlier” face when compared to the antisocial behavior that defined the second wave. When I hear a band like Alcest or Deafheaven, I don't feel like these are maniacs with serious mental issues precisely because it sounds way too calculated and professional for my aging ears.
Djent is nice but often feels too monotonous to really do justice to how technical it is. For, “progressive metal” the songwriting lacks the same level of unexpected changes in direction that make progressive rock acts like Rush and Yes so appealing. Yeah, Djent is heavy but it's also often predicable when unconventional songwriting is half of what separates metal and makes it so special and unique. Blackened sludge on the othe rhand is only going to appeal to people who want extremely raw production... who will never be great enough in number to establish a trend rather than a fad. More...

Five Finger Death Punch just debuted an official music video for new single “My Nemesis.” The video concept was conceived by the band and realized by director Nick Peterson, who previously directed the 5FDP videos for “Coming Down” (2012) and “Wrong Side Of Heaven” (2014).
“My Nemesis” is the third single from the band’s current album, "Got Your Six," and has already climbed to Top 20 on the Active Rock radio chart. The clip’s storyline explores the hard and painful choices everyone has to face one time or another in life. The video is focused around the pain and grief involved in overcoming and moving on from emotionally entangled difficult situations.
Zoltan Bathory (guitars) states: “In life everyone has a nemesis… it can be anything… a self defeating thinking pattern, a bad habit, an addiction, an adversary… something or someone that puts you in an impossible scenario, where you are presented with a fork in the road. Sometimes there is no other choice but making a hard choice.
"You can give up and just suffer the situation, or you can use your pain to overcome it, as pain is truly the wind in the sails of change. We wanted to present a story about moving on, a story that probes and questions compassion and loyalty. Those are beautiful notions, but remember you have to be loyal and fair to yourself as well, so will you sacrifice yourself for another or will you live with the guilt that you didn't.” More...

Originally announced for a late August release, Five Finger Death Punch has now revealed new album "Got Your Six" will drop one week later on September 4th.
Says guitarist Zoltan Bathory about the track: “I can’t wait to release this album. It’s jam-packed with some of our best work to date, and lyrically Ivan dug deep and revealed a lot of his personal struggles. We live life in the fast lane as is, so if you chose to burn the candle on both ends ... There will be 'Hell To Pay.'" More...
Today Five Finger Death Punch releases a music video for "Jekyll and Hyde,” which can be seen below. Record label Prospect Park got five finger death punked when they asked the band for a new music video. Says guitarist Zoltan Bathory:
“Punking the label and trolling the trolls is actually very satisfying … so either we make a video that makes a difference like 'Wrong Side Of Heaven' did or we just fuck it all up and have fun with it... just clown the whole thing as we did with 'Under And Over It'… and now with this one. We didn’t even hire a director … we didn’t want this to accidentally make sense…”
Responds Jeremy Summers, President of Prospect Park Records: “First we were scratching our collective heads but we never once interfered with their vision… so ultimately – if that’s what the band wants to put out we are not going to stop them. We were shocked, then cried, then laughed because it’s actually funny.”
"Jekyll and Hyde” is the first single from 5FDP's forthcoming album, "Got Your Six," due out through Prospect Park in North America on August 28th and Eleven Seven Music outside North America. More...
Following an excellent start to the festival the day before, it was exciting to wake up to another day of metal music in Dessel. There was once again plenty on display for head bangers of all tastes, from legendary bands to current favourites. There were also plent of cult heroes performing on this day, one of which was the first band on the agenda.
Formed in 1991 under the name Resurrection in Israel, Orphaned Land have gone on to become one of, if not the premier metal band from the Middle East. Part of what makes them such an endearing group is their constant devotion of their music to peace, particularly between the Abrahamic religions that clash more than anywhere around their homeland. They were a great way to start the day, possessing a fantastic energy that got plenty of the crowd moving, which is quite an accomplishment for midday at a festival. Opening with the title track to their latest album, "All Is One," they oozed a positive atmosphere and most heads that were banging were also smiling. Having only a forty minute set, it was impressive that the band were able to fit seven songs into their schedule, with the excellent "Separi" being a particular highlight, in part due to the guest appearance of a Dutch Muslim belly dancer, who also joined the group for their finale, which was a medley of "Norra el Norra" and "Ornaments of Gold." Like several bands the day before, Orphaned Land were highly impressive and one that needs adding to the metal fans list of bands to see live. More...
Five Finger Death Punch just released new song “Jekyll and Hyde,” the first single from "Got Your Six." Give it a listen at the Monster Energy website here.
The new album "Got Your Six" is due to drop in North America on August 28th via Prospect Park, with Eleven Seven Music due to handle the European release. Pre-orders are available now at this location. Vocalist Ivan Moody comments:
“If someone asked me to sum up who and what Five Finger Death Punch is, I would tell them everything they need to know is on this new record. Hands down, 'Got Your Six' is our best one yet… As for the first single, everybody is 'Jekyll and Hyde.' There are multiple personalities to every human being, and no matter how civilized and sophisticated you think you are, if you dare to look at yourself very, very closely, you’ll see… somewhere deep down… there is a demon inside. Your circumstances may not have provoked it yet but trust me, it’s there…” More...
After an on-stage melt down that had many thinking the band had broken up, Five Finger Death Punch has revealed new tour dates with Papa Roach, In This Moment, and From Ashes To New. Says Zoltan Bathory of Five Finger Death Punch:
“This tour is shaping up to be the perfect storm. We are really good friends with Papa Roach so for years we've been talking about touring together and it’s finally coming together in a big way. Both 5fdp and Papa Roach are bands of the people - our fans are who propelled us to success. So what better way than to give the fans ownership in the tour? In the world of Wikipedia and Kickstarter where crowd funding and crowd sourcing has become the standard of community effort and the new way of making things happen this might quite possibly be the future of touring - you simply ask the fans where they want you to go."
"We are super excited to be sharing the stage on this co-headliner with FFDP,” says Papa Roach vocalist, Jacoby Shaddix. “This will give Papa Roach the chance to put on the best, most epic live show to date. Our fans are going to be so stoked for these shows coming up. We seriously can't wait to get out on the road for this tour." More...

Ivan from Five Finger Death Punch released this message about an on-stage melt down last night that had many wondering if the band was breaking up:
"There were a lot of technical problems last night that were seemingly unsolvable. We had to make a decision whether to hit the stage crippled, without being able to hear ourselves; or, delay the start of the show - possibly for hours.
"We decided to proceed, but not being able to hear if I was in key, and just guessing where we were in the song frustrated me to the point that I lost my cool.
"I'm not saying I handled it appropriately. Matter of fact I've never been so embarrassed before. I apologize for taking out my anger on stage. You guys know me and you know how I pride myself on my live performances. I'd never want this to boil over in to something that epically wrong ever again.
"To some of our crew, good luck in your future endeavors we wish you the best - we also welcome our new monitor engineer Paul Weber.
"To our fans in Memphis - we'll make it up to you I promise, Houston we we will see you tonight. The rest of the world - yes we are coming.
"And to the haters... wipe that smirk off your face ...We are not going anywhere ... This 'ain't my last dance!'" More...
