Five Finger Death Punch Issues Statement

Full news has now come online of just what was going down at the disaster of the Five Finger Death Punch Tilburg show and what's going on with the group's vocalist situation.

Five Finger Death Punch will continue the current European tour without Ivan Moody. Tommy Vext will appear in his place.

Ivan himself issued this statement: "I am embarrassed and ashamed to admit that I have fallen off the wagon again. I was on shaky ground prior to our performance in Tilburg, and although a lot of the events of that show were out of my control, the shame of not delivering pushed me over the edge. It would not be fair to my bandmates or my fans to continue to perform in my current condition. One of the worst parts of addiction is the loneliness you feel, so having the support of my band and all the knuckleheads is what drives me. I am committed to getting better so I can get back out on stage as soon as possible."

Zoltan Bathory has released a new message explaining what happened during the concert: "As you probably know by now - the show 2 days ago in Tilburg was an avalanche of clusterfucks - a crew member rolled the intro without verifying if we were all present - we were half way into the first song when we realized that - Ivan wasn't even in the building yet.

"To save the day our friend Tommy Vext of Bad Wolves ran out on stage and sung until Ivan arrived... but you can imagine Ivan's shock - the band was on stage without him - so things escalated form there - as his anger got the better of him and in the chaos - more and more crazy shit happened - mistakes such us wrong intros resulted in skipping songs - which resulted in getting handed the wrong instruments for the wrong songs.... the aftermath was even crazier - so the events that happened in the following day left us no choice but to send Ivan back to rehab so he can take care of himself and come back stronger. In Flames Announces Tour With 5FDP

Despite the fact that Ivan Moody apparently quit the band mid-set, somehow Five Finger Death Punch is still announcing an upcoming tour with In Flames and Of Mice And Men.

Update: Five Finger Death Punch is finishing off the band's current tour with Bad Wolves vocalist Tommy Vext filling in for Ivan Moody. It's not confirmed yet whether he will appear on the upcoming In Flames tour.

General tickets will go on sale this Friday, June 16th at this location.

In Flames singer Anders Fridén offers: “We’ve been lucky to play for so many Jesterheads around the world this year and can’t think of a better way to end 2017 than touring Europe with Five Finger Death Punch. We’ll see you soon Jesterheads and Knuckleheads. It’s going to be a tour to remember.”

5FDP guitarist Zoltan Bathory states: "We are currently playing all the European festivals and are having an amazing time. As these massive crowds are singing along every word of the lyrics, it feels like Europe is truly becoming the second home of Five Finger Death Punch. We can't wait to come back this autumn and especially with In Flames which is one of my favourite bands. This will be something special to see…” More...

5FDP Comments On Disastrous Show

After a show in Tilburg last night was cut short last night and Ivan Moody apparently quit the band mid-set, Five Finger Death Punch has now released a statement about the situation. It doesn't address the Moody situation at all, but does indicate the band will still continue touring. The band comments:

"Those who have followed 5FDP from the beginning can tell you there has always been an element of danger and unpredictability in our music and in our shows.

"That’s Rock ‘n’ Roll. When you do over 150 shows in a year, you will inevitably have a few derailments, but the train always keeps on moving. Last night in Tilburg was one of those instances, but as they say, you aren’t a race car driver if you don’t wreck a car or two.

"We can’t wait to put on amazing shows tomorrow night at Nova Rock all the way to our just announced winter tour all over Europe. See you all on the race track... bring a helmet..." More...

Phil Labonte Stepping In For Ivan Moody On Tour

With only seven shows to go on the band's current U.S. co-headlining arena tour alongside Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch will finish out the current trek with All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte filling in for frontman Ivan Moody, who has fallen ill.

Says Zoltan Bathory, guitarist of Five Finger Death Punch: "Ivan is our brother and we fully and wholeheartedly support him taking care of himself so he can get well as soon as possible. We discussed possibly canceling the remaining shows but the responses from the other bands on the tour were so overwhelmingly supportive that we decided to move forward and deliver the great night to the fans that they expect.”

Phil Labonte comments: “I got their six and stepped up right away. I’m honored to be able to help Five Finger Death Punch to finish their tour and give Ivan a chance to take care of himself. I did the same for Killswitch Engage years ago. I was humbled to get the call and get a chance to play in front of such a great audience.” More...

Chicago Open Air Day Three

Day 3: Sunday 7/17/2016

The best part of being Cuban/Irish is that I'm tan year round but still shrivel up like bacon when exposed to too much sunlight. I had the nastiest sunburn ever which even days later had my forehead covered in acne and the skin on my nose flaking off. And after looking at myself in the mirror, the first two words that came to mind were, “worth it.” As somebody too perpetually broke to wear sunscreen and already shelling out ungodly amounts of money just to stay fed and hydrated, a sunburn was a rather small price to pay to continue to have a really great time.

Since my arctic camo shorts were completely drenched in beer, I decided that now was the time to break out an even more egregious pair of camo shorts. Neon green and black are a pattern that can't blend into any environment which is why I bought them in the first place. Just the most outrageous thing I could possibly own... and now I had an excuse!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I missed the first three acts since I got there late. I kept waking up later each morning due to the sheer quantity of alcohol I was drinking as my car needed engine repairs and that meant that I wasn't driving. That fact that the gates opened earlier with each passing day didn't help either since Gemini Syndrome started playing a full half hour earlier than Through Fire did on Friday. So I ultimately have no opinions on Gemini Syndrome, Upon a Burning Body or We Came As Romans and I'm not going to fabricate a story just for the sake of comprehensiveness. There are some videos on Youtube and I watched them but I still lack anything resembling an opinion since bootlegs can never compare to the real thing. More...

OpEd

Metal Must Evolve

My biggest issue with metal in the 2010s is that in contrast to the past three decades, there's just a lack of creativity. Newer metalcore is being increasingly influenced by nu-metal and post-hardcore as the new musicians who are in their 20s and 30s are now playing music that's entirely an amalgam of what they grew up with as teens rather than creating anything new.

Blackgaze was novel for the first few years but now feels like the light beer version of black metal at this point that doesn't have the same edge that metal is supposed to have. I'm not sure if I want black metal to have a kinder, gentler, dare I say, “cuddlier” face when compared to the antisocial behavior that defined the second wave. When I hear a band like Alcest or Deafheaven, I don't feel like these are maniacs with serious mental issues precisely because it sounds way too calculated and professional for my aging ears.

Djent is nice but often feels too monotonous to really do justice to how technical it is. For, “progressive metal” the songwriting lacks the same level of unexpected changes in direction that make progressive rock acts like Rush and Yes so appealing. Yeah, Djent is heavy but it's also often predicable when unconventional songwriting is half of what separates metal and makes it so special and unique. Blackened sludge on the othe rhand is only going to appeal to people who want extremely raw production... who will never be great enough in number to establish a trend rather than a fad. More...

Five Finger Death Punch Releases New Video

Five Finger Death Punch just debuted an official music video for new single “My Nemesis.” The video concept was conceived by the band and realized by director Nick Peterson, who previously directed the 5FDP videos for “Coming Down” (2012) and “Wrong Side Of Heaven” (2014).

“My Nemesis” is the third single from the band’s current album, "Got Your Six," and has already climbed to Top 20 on the Active Rock radio chart. The clip’s storyline explores the hard and painful choices everyone has to face one time or another in life. The video is focused around the pain and grief involved in overcoming and moving on from emotionally entangled difficult situations.

Zoltan Bathory (guitars) states: “In life everyone has a nemesis… it can be anything… a self defeating thinking pattern, a bad habit, an addiction, an adversary… something or someone that puts you in an impossible scenario, where you are presented with a fork in the road. Sometimes there is no other choice but making a hard choice.

"You can give up and just suffer the situation, or you can use your pain to overcome it, as pain is truly the wind in the sails of change. We wanted to present a story about moving on, a story that probes and questions compassion and loyalty. Those are beautiful notions, but remember you have to be loyal and fair to yourself as well, so will you sacrifice yourself for another or will you live with the guilt that you didn't.” More...

Five Finger Death Punch Punks It's Label

Today Five Finger Death Punch releases a music video for "Jekyll and Hyde,” which can be seen below. Record label Prospect Park got five finger death punked when they asked the band for a new music video. Says guitarist Zoltan Bathory:

“Punking the label and trolling the trolls is actually very satisfying … so either we make a video that makes a difference like 'Wrong Side Of Heaven' did or we just fuck it all up and have fun with it... just clown the whole thing as we did with 'Under And Over It'… and now with this one. We didn’t even hire a director … we didn’t want this to accidentally make sense…”

Responds Jeremy Summers, President of Prospect Park Records: “First we were scratching our collective heads but we never once interfered with their vision… so ultimately – if that’s what the band wants to put out we are not going to stop them. We were shocked, then cried, then laughed because it’s actually funny.”

"Jekyll and Hyde” is the first single from 5FDP's forthcoming album, "Got Your Six," due out through Prospect Park in North America on August 28th and Eleven Seven Music outside North America. More...
