Background
Formed in Dallas in the early 80's, Pantera was founded by brothers Darrell and Vincent Abbott. Along with Terrence Lee and a bassist named Rex Brown, Pantera joined the glam scene. Producing three records, the band never accomplished what they set out to do. In 1986 the members agreed to replace Terrence Lee with Phillip Anselmo. After Releasing aother album the band recieved a record deal with East West Records.
The groups first release with the new label was 'Cowboys From Hell.' This album put Pantera on the metal map, but did not sell very well because mainstream never picked it up. Two years later Pantera released 'Vulgar Display of Power', which defined Pantera's true aggressive style. The next release (Far Beynd Driven) surprised the world by debuting at number one on the Billboard Charts. Pantera released two more studio albums, and a live album in the following years.
Even though they never reached the status of No.1 again, Pantera built a following by touring for four years straight. Pantera have toured with everyone from Slayer (2001) to Rob Zombie (1996). They have also been featured on the Ozzfest on many occasions. Needless to say Pantera are still playing and preaching the same metal that made them metal icons in the early 90's.

Surviving Members Of Pantera To Reunite For Tour
According to Billboard, surviving members of Pantera Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown are to reunite for a tour next year to celebrate the band's music.
"We are thrilled to be working with such an iconic band and bringing their music back to the fans," said agent Peter Pappalardo.
There has been no official announcement on the band's social media as of writing, nor has there been any official word on who could be replacing the deceased Abbott Brothers, Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell, though there has been much speculation that Charlie Benante of Anthrax will be behind the drum kit, while longtime choice Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne) will take the place of his noted friend Darrell Abbott.

Spirit Adrift Shares Pantera Cover
February 25th, 2022 marks the 30 year anniversary of Pantera’s "Vulgar Display of Power," one of heavy music’s most influential albums. To pay tribute to this landmark Spirit Adrift, hailing from Austin, TX, have covered "Hollow."
"'Vulgar Display of Power' was a massive influence on my understanding of powerful songwriting, memorable arrangements, riffing, drumming, singing, and heavy metal in general," says Nate Garrett (guitar and vocals). "I studied the entire album from an early age, and the standout track to me has always been ‘Hollow’. It is dynamic, emotional, unpredictable, and perfectly suited for the style of Spirit Adrift. Covering such a great song by such a legendary band is not something I took lightly. I channeled every ounce of obsession and attention to detail into our version, making sure that we honored the original song while introducing some of our trademark elements to make it our own. Pantera are one of those bands that taught me how to play music, and I hope Spirit Adrift's version of ‘Hollow’ does justice to their legacy." More...

Slayer Members Forming Band With Phil Anselmo?
There has been much speculation recently with regards to a new project hinted at by legendary thrash metal drummer Paul Bostaph (Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Forbidden.) In a recent conversation with Overkill drummer Jason Bittner, the latter affirmed his belief that Bostaph is working with his former Slayer bandmates Kerry King and Gary Holt and Down/ex Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo. When asked by Bittner if he had any projects in the pipeline, Bostaph stated:
"Something is brewing with a friend of mine that is very familiar to you. I'll give you three guesses."
Bittner replied: "Kerry, Gary, and Anselmo. C'mon, everyone knows by now."
Though Holt has insisted that Exodus is once again his main priority, Kerry King has made it clear that he's not done with music just yet. Further updates and concrete information will be revealed as soon as it becomes available.

Graspop Metal Meeting: Intro Night
There must be a hundred festivals in Europe by now. Every year a new one pops up, some grow, some wane, but a few sit rightfully in the hall of kings. This year, I made my sixth visit to one from the last category, travelling to the small town of Dessel in the east of Belgium, not far from the Dutch border, to once again experience the one and only Graspop Metal Meeting.
Graspop, as the name suggests, originally began as a more commercial affair, once being headlined by the likes of Simple Minds. In 1996 however, the organisers decided, having witnessed the popularity of the metal bands they'd booked previously, to steer the event entirely towards catering for metal, hardcore and punk fans and brought in the likes of Iron Maiden, Sick Of It All, Type O Negative and Slayer to kick off the inaugural brawl. Fast forward to 2019 and Graspop has become one of Europe's favourite festivals, with many bands also speaking highly of it. It boasts a consistently amazing lineup, serves as a cultural melting pot where people come from all over the globe to celebrate metal and offers fans an unforgettable weekend for a reasonable price. So was this year's event? Well...
Most festivals are advertised as three day affairs, normally the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but at Graspop, the party gets going on Thursday, as each year, many local bands as well as a few international names descend upon the half opened grounds to welcome those who have made the journey to Dessel. Almost as soon I had set up my tent, it was off to the Marquee to see one of my absolute favourite old school heavy metal bands, Raven.
Raven has for decades, worked tirelessly on their live performances and become one of the most revered performers among their peers. The Geordie trio rolled into Belgium on the Thursday and rightly received a very strong response from the crowd, who ate up such staples as "Faster Than The Speed Of Light" and "All For One." Despite forming forty five years ago, Raven still have an energy and playfulness about them that many younger bands lack. Raven is as fun as heavy metal gets, providing sing along anthems, dry humour and plenty of crowd participation. On a personal note, the band finishing the set with my favourite of theirs, "Don't Need Your Money," made sure that this was indeed the best start to a festival this reporter could have had. More...

New Zealand Promoters Cancel Phil Anselmo Shows
Promoters in Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand have announced that they have decided to cancel the scheduled concerts of former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo and his project, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, accusing the singer of racism. Anselmo and his band are scheduled to to travel to Australia this week, which would include a headlining slot at Slayfest in Perth, but the neighbouring country of New Zealand, which was shaken by a horrific terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch, which claimed the lives of fifty people, has seemingly closed it's doors to the band.
The cancellation is partly a reaction to these attacks, where a white supremacist Australian man, who has continued to make racist gestures during his court hearing, was responsible for the killings. Anselmo himself has been the subject of racist accusations, most recently in 2016 where he shouted "White power!" in front of a crowd in Hollywood, California, an action he has since apologised for. Club Tavern, the venue in Christchurch which was supposed to hold the Illegals concert, stated:
The Philip Anselmo gig has been cancel (sic)," a Facebook post said. "We do not and will not support white supremacy or racism!"
The venue declined to comment further.
Auckland venue Galatos also posted on Facebook, informing people of their decision to pull the pin on the gig. A spokeswoman for the venue also declined to comment further.
