The Rockstar Ramblings: 1986 M/F/K
25 years ago hard rock and glam albums found regular rotation on the radio and pop culture thanks to MTV, Circus Magazine, and eighties culture. 1986 was riding the fringe of hair band saturation, but also the year Metallica and Megadeth put out timeless efforts. Since 1986 we have seen the grunge era, the boy band era, and the release of St. Anger. We’ve seen it all in the last 25 years.
Here’s a look back at ten of these classic albums in no particular order. There is a twist as Marry/Fuck/Kill rules apply. It’s as simple as it sounds. M (Marry) is a song you want to “save” and listen to forever, F (Fuck) is the song you get one more listen to and that is it, and K (Kill) is the song you want to go away and never be heard from again.
Master of Puppets (Metallica)
M: Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
F: Damage, Inc.
K: The Thing That Should Not Be
(NOTE: It really is the perfect “F” song) More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Giving Back
Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) is admitting that not only did he fall off the wagon in 2008, but fellow toxic twin, Joe Perry also joined him while they attempted to record a new album. The way Tyler tells it is that Joe was snorting so many prescription drugs he was unable to play guitar. Note that contrary to rumors, snorting non-prescription drugs does not enhance playing guitar…
With eight out of thirteen tracks completed, Sebastian Bach (ex-Skid Row) is expected to have a new album released in the Summer of 2011. Bach is promising rock and roll with clean vocals and lots of screaming. All signs are pointing to Sebastian putting his “country music” years behind him. It appears everyone has agreed to just ignore this and make believe it never happened and that’s fine with me...
After attending classes and making a donation to M.A.D.D., Vince Neil (Motley Crue) is fully clear of his DUI charge. Neil will have the weekend to rest and then appear back in court on Monday for battery and disorderly conduct charges. For those keeping track it’s: Vince Neil 2, Lindsay Lohan 2 for number of court appearances in 2011. The good news is both are below their annual average, the bad news is we are only one-third through the year… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Restored and Remastered
Forgetting about his recent trouble with the law, Vince Neil (Motley Crue) joined Steel Panther on stage at the Ovation Showroom in Green Valley Ranch, Las Vegas to sing Crue staples “Live Wire” and “Kick Start My Heart”. I’m not exactly sure where Green Valley Ranch is but I suspect the Ovation room is just down the hall from the Encore Center and Bravo-Bravo Hall… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: It’s like X meets Y
While Vince Neil (Motley Crue) does his time in jail his girl on the outside is concerned because he’s working the breakfast shift and has only eaten some peanut butter and a baloney sandwich. Given the length of his sentence (less than a month) this doesn’t sound like anything of concern. This sounds like fat camp for middle aged rock singers… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Speaking of…
While Warrant is putting the finishing touch on their new album we take a moment to think about Jani Lane and where he may be. I like to think he is part of a mentoring program, helping lead singers get through serving their time in jail/prison. Right now Jani is opening a letter with his next project, the letter says simply: Vince Neil… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: The Ozzy Bowl
It was reported last week that Vince Neil (Motley Crue) owes 1 million dollars in taxes. He has since denied this report, but I’m assuming one of his many business ventures will cover the expense if needed. If not, expect a hat to circulate the crowd during this year’s Crue Fest…
Bret Michaels (Poison) continues to recover from heart surgery. The surgery was originally to fix a hole in his heart, but turned into a much larger procedure when they found an actual VH1 cameraman wrapped around his aortic valve…
Warrant has hit a new milestone with allowing their ballad “Heaven”, to be used in a commercial by the laundry detergent, Gain. Given eighties rockers seem to resonate with the forty something MILF (and non-MILF) crowds could we be seeing the start of something new? How about Skid Row’s “I Remember You” for PMS medication for that special time of the month? For men, well I can’t think of a better song than Def Leppard’s “Rocket” to sell penis enlargement products. Public service announcements for STD prevention? Motley Crue’s “Red Hot” works, of course, “I Remember You” may also work here as well… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: What If?
This week a look back at what if certain break-ups, decisions, or meetings didn’t happen and how it would have turned out for the parties involved.
WHAT IF VAN HALEN DOESN’T SPLIT?
David Lee Roth stays with the VH brothers and continues touring to support the 1984 album. Eventually Roth loses his voice for a very long time, but this doesn’t stop Eddie and Alex from making their next album, an instrumental only record, titled: 1986. Despite Roth’s voice gone, they still tour (with DLR only doing karate kicks on stage) and for two years sell out arenas worldwide. Eventually, their popularity dies down with the ill-advised 1990 album titled: Still Runnin’ With The Devil. As for Sammy Hagar? Without VH in his way he focuses on his tequila, eventually forming a strong partnership with a leading brand and goes on to make billions with Jose Haggar… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: American Idol and Glee
While out promoting for Amercian Idol, Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) was quoted saying “American Idol is not rock n’ roll”, “American Idol will take Aerosmith up a few notches”, and that “Joe Perry is a loose cannon”. This was all in one interview! In related news, Tyler mentions he can’t find Joe Perry. He’s hiding Steven, waiting for all of this to go away. You can remove your head from Ryan Seacrest’s ass. He’s not in there… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Reunion Tours and Hookers
It is being reported that Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue, Sixx A.M.) and Denise Richards are no longer dating and have split. The uncomfortable part of this breakup is that they are neighbors.
