Lord Dying Posts New Music Video Online
Portland progressive sludge masters Lord Dying have unleashed their new single / video "The Universe Is Weeping," taken from their long-awaited new full-length, "Clandestine Transcendence," which is released 19th January 2024 via MNRK Heavy. You can check out the video, which originally premiered via Decibel, below.
Vocalist / guitarist Erik Olson comments on the new single: "We are very psyched to premiere the opening track and video for 'The Universe Is Weeping' off our upcoming album. This song picks up directly where our previous album leaves off. Post death. Blazing beyond the cosmos and outside the realms of consciousness. Total dissolution of the self. Into Clandestine Transcendence."
Bassist Alyssa Maucere, who directed and produced the video, adds: "When asked to direct the video for 'The Universe Is Weeping,' I couldn’t help but tackle the concept of the Cosmic Calendar. For instance, the Universe’s birthdate is January 1st. Life on earth = Sept 30th. Human history is Dec 31st at 23:59:57. We consume everything in our path as our sources of energy, some of which have been on earth for over 600 million years. If the past can tell us anything about life, a new life form could come along one day that decides that they can house us, raise us, and overfeed us to become their most preferred source of energy. Or we could just destroy each other before that day may come, which seems more likely to me." More...

Magnum Founder Tony Clarkin Passes Aged 77
Tony Clarkin, the founder, guitarist and main songwriter of Magnum, has passed away at the age of 77. The musician was diagnosed with a rare spinal condition last month, which resulted in the cancellation of the band's planned Spring tour. Clarkin was, along with singer Bob Catley, a constant member of Magnum, contributing to all twenty two of their albums, including the latest, "Here Comes The Rain," which is scheduled to be released this Friday (January 12th.) A message from his family reads as follows:
"On behalf of the family it is with profound sadness that daughter Dionne is sharing the news of the passing of Tony Clarkin.
"Following a short illness, he died peacefully surrounded by his girls on Sunday 7th January 2024.
"I know that Tony has touched so many people through his music in so many different ways. I don’t really have words to express what he meant to me right now as the grief is too fresh.
"As many of you know Tony had a great affinity with animals. It is the family’s intention to set up a charitable trust in his name to aid this cause, further details to follow. Please do not send flowers or cards, as he would have much preferred expressions of sympathy to go to charity in this way.
"It was a privilege to call him my Dad."
