Schaffer to Publish Iced Earth Autobiography

Iced Earth mainman Jon Schaffer has posted the following message via the group's official web site:

"Well, now that the [record] deal [with SPV/Steamhammer] is finally done, studio arrangements are being made. We are getting a later start than I wanted but that's rock n roll. We should be recording in mid-March and we're shooting for an August\September release.

"This past Monday was the 18th anniversary of the band. Man, it's been a long and intense ride. Since we're approaching the 20th, I thought it was about time to have a book published about the Iced Earth story. Bill Murphy will be writing it and obviously I will be very involved in this undertaking. He will be compiling info and doing interviews with key people and some past members in the next year and a half to two years so that we can have it out sometime in 2005, the 20th anniversary. I want this to be an inspirational book that will show people that there's nothing you can't accomplish when you give it your all, whether you're a musician, an aspiring writer, actor, doctor, lawyer or whatever. A strong work ethic, realistic short-term and long-term goals, honesty and balls will get you whatever it is you seek. We also have something very special planned for the Demons & Wizards release and Bill will be the one who is going to put it together. It was his idea and Hansi and I think it will be very cool for the fans. He will be documenting a good portion of the creative process and the recording and all kinds of cool stuff. More to come on that later. More...

Dynamo Cancelled

The organizers of the legendary Dutch metal festival Dynamo Open Air have announced the cancellation of this year's festivities — the second time in three years that they've been forced to abandon plans to stage the event.

"Unfortunately there will NOT be a Dynamo Open Air in 2003, although we have actually found a new site!" begins the official statement announcing the cancellation. "We thought we had found our new home, in the town of Nuenen, only five kilometres from Eindhoven, but because of a newly installed European environmental law the town can not give us a permit. In short, this new law forbids events like Dynamo in the breeding season, which is from March 15th until July 15th. Although it is possible to file for an exemption to this law, the whole procedure would take too long for us to be able to organize a proper Dynamo, as we have it in mind. This leaves us with no other option than to cancel this year's Dynamo. Of course we regret this immensely, but we have looked at it from every possible angle and there was no alternative. More...

Dismember Find Where Ironcrosses Grow

Sweden's death metal institution Dismember have finally revealed they're in the studio recording Where Ironcrosses Grow, the follow-up to 2000's Hate Campaign.

"The new material will be darker, a little less melodic and more aggressive than ever," explains drummer Fred Estby. "Lyrically vocalist Matti Karki headed even more in the direction of describing war at its ugliest, stories about sick minds creating sick situations and loads of religious criticism."

Where Ironcrosses Grow is being recorded at Sami Studios in Stockholm, Sweden by Estby and engineered by Olle Sandqvist. Some song titles include "Tragedy of the Faithful," "Sword of Light" and the title track.

"We are looking forward to launch this missile of hate upon the world," finishes Estby. Where Ironcrosses Grow is due for a September release on Hammerheart Records.

Dawn Working on New Album

Sweden's Dawn, featuring ex-members of Afflicted, Dark Funeral and Cranium, have finally come out of a long hibernation and reveal that they have a new album in the works and have officially signed over to Norway's MNW (originally Voices of Wonder).

"Sweden's infernal longriffers are working at full steam again: four years after their latest album Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triarchy) Dawn are working hard to finish their yet untitled new full length album to be recorded in (May-July 2003)," exclaims a statement on Dawn's official website. "The band have to prove once again that they still set the pace on the current music scene and serve as forerunners for other bands. Like the albums in the past that the band have come up with in the course of their history, Dawn has always taken a step further to new heights. The new material is marked by a permanent quest for new sonic landscapes and contemporary musical techniques." More...
