"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Dawn Working on New Album

Sweden's Dawn, featuring ex-members of Afflicted, Dark Funeral and Cranium, have finally come out of a long hibernation and reveal that they have a new album in the works and have officially signed over to Norway's MNW (originally Voices of Wonder).

"Sweden's infernal longriffers are working at full steam again: four years after their latest album Slaughtersun (Crown of the Triarchy) Dawn are working hard to finish their yet untitled new full length album to be recorded in (May-July 2003)," exclaims a statement on Dawn's official website. "The band have to prove once again that they still set the pace on the current music scene and serve as forerunners for other bands. Like the albums in the past that the band have come up with in the course of their history, Dawn has always taken a step further to new heights. The new material is marked by a permanent quest for new sonic landscapes and contemporary musical techniques."

"We have been playing Death/Black metal for a long time, and quality instead of quantity is something really important", guitarist Fredrik Söderberg points out. "We like to keep experimenting with our music, I have worked hard to further develop the typical death/black metal chords and speed picking riffs, and I consider this as an essential evolution for the new material since nothing has really happened with the guitar playing in this genre for the past 10 years. You have to try out new things as a musician. I also have found a perfect line-up for Dawn (more information on the band section) which took a long time to find. Most of the time during the last two years has also been focused on finding the musical direction on the upcoming album. The new stuff involves a lot of new innovations, as well as a number of classic Dawn elements that will satisfy most of the stalwart Dawn fans."

Dawn will commence the recording of their as-yet-untitled third full-length at the home studio of drummer Thomas Asklund (ex-Dark Funeral). No other details were provided, but Dawn assures that the sound will be "the best alternative there is."
